Wow, I thought you already had your interview and were waiting on your oath date as well. I hope you get an interview date soon and the oath soon after!

So, get the oath date/ letter about 4 weeks before the ceremony? There was a special ceremony the week after my interview, I just missed the cutoff for that. Then they added another one the day after the special ceremony and canceled the one for August. I'm really hoping to get the next one in September; otherwise, I'll most likely miss a day in school for that. I'm in nursing school and the oath ceremonies here are the same day as our hospital days. They are not pleased if we miss those, even if they'd understand. It seems this is a stressful time for most of us. Good luck to everyone! I hope our immigration journeys will find a positive end soon

I can beat that, 262 days for me. The next oath ceremony in our district isn't until mid-September. Hopefully, we'll get positive news from USCIS soon!
Does anyone know how many weeks/ days before an oath ceremony they send out the letters? I'm wondering if I should get an oath scheduled any day now, or if the fact that I haven't gotten it yet means that I won't get the September oath ceremony.

I had my interview today and got approved
Questions asked:- who is the speaker of the house- for how many years do we elect the president- when was the declaration of independence adopted- who lived in America before the Europeans came- longest riverI forgot the 6th oneThe interview was super relaxed, even though I was nervous. I forgot to answer one of the questions on my N400 when he pointed that out, I explained that I didn't answer all, because some were follow up questions that I didn't think needed answering if I said "no". But that's not what I forgot
Oh well, he fixed that and added my answer, changed my job information and had me sign off on the changes. He also confirmed my name change and the closest city for the oath ceremony. Overall, I didn't have to wait long at the office in Fairfax, the interview went by quickly and relaxed, and everyone was super friendly.
To those who have already gotten their oath dates, how long did it take to get the date for your oath ceremony? -

if you´ve been living in germany as a permanent resident (however it´s called there) for at least 6 months get married asap and file for CR-1 via DCF in frankfurt. it takes about 3 months (way faster that K1: 6-8 months or the "regular" CR-1: 8-12 months)
do you have the income (~19.000$) to sponsor your wife? if not you need a co-sponsor...

don´t worry, it happens a lot, that they send out the checklist almost at the same time as your papers arrive there. that means that your IV packet arrived, but it´s not in the system when they send out the checklist... give them a couple daays, the same happened to me and shortly after my papers arrived there the NVC already accepted my IV package and we got an interview appointment

I am sorry, but from my point of view right now I don´t see a reason why I should give up my Austrian citizenship. My immigration journey ends with the greencard (until I change my mind/ situation or Austria it´s citizenship laws)
as long as the GC holder did everyhing right and didn´t break the law they don´t get deported. if they break the law (and i don´t mean a speeding ticket) they should get deported. it just sucks that they can´t get deported anymore once they are citizens.

they need your documents in english or the official language of the country the beneficiary resides in (and where the interview will be). that´s german for you. do if your documents ar in german you are good. you can get a international birth certificate (which you need for AOS too)
i´m not sure about divorce papers, it could be that they have to be in english...

1. My U.S. fiancé has to have stayed here in Germany for at least 6 months.
2. We have to get married in Germany
3. After marriage we apply for CR-1 (this could also be done when he is back in the U.S., right? But it should be send to the German embassy, right?)
4. If we are lucky it would take 3 to 6 months until I can enter the U.S. legally and stay?

5. depends on how you define valid. it´s valid for entry for 6 months. with your entry you activate your greencard. until you get your greencard the visa plus the admission stamp in your passport will be your "greencard"
is your fiance able to sponsor you? if not, do you ghave a co sponsor?

Even with the K1 you are allowed to work immediately once you get married in the U.S.

no, that is just wrong! with K-1 you have to file for adjustment of status and get your work (and travel) permission first. EAD/AP take about 3 months and the GC even longer...

Still, it says in the faq of visajourney that the CR-1 lasts 6 - 12 months. I think I have to write to the embassy and ask them about it.

I´m moving 10 months after we filed the I-130. the K-1 is ~ 2months faster than the CR-1. but if you can do DCF, i´d do it
if not I guess it´s up do you to set your priorities and decide what´s better for you and your ffiance... beeing apart for 2 more months and getting the GC right away when you enter the us with your Cr-1 visa or being together 2 months earlier and having to AOS then and not being able to work or travel until you get your EAD/AP... that´s a personal decicion then... -
But I thought if we get married in Germany we would have to apply for K3 and this would at least last one year?
I am a bit confused now because why should anyone apply for K1 if there is the possibility to get married in the home country of the fiancé and enter the U.S. with the spouse after 3 months?

because not everybody can do DCF. there has to be a USCIS office in the country where the non usc has his resindence and the usc spouse has to have lived in that country legally (and not as a tourist) for at least 6 months.
and you wouldn´t apply for K-3, it´s CR-1.
also, if your fiance doesn´t fulfill the residency requirement in germany you can still get married in germany and apply for CR-1, but in the US. it just takes a few months longer than K-1 and cheaper and you are allowed to work right away.
do you know amerika-forum.de? it´s a german forum with lot´s of ppl in your situation...

if not and if your fiance has lived in germany for 6 months or more you could get married in germany now and file CR-1 via DCF. it takes about 3 months in germany right now from filing to having your visa interview...

I think it just comes down to whether you want to be married and apart, or engaged and apart. I had a friend that married a Canadian in 2000 (I went to him before finding this site), and his main regret was getting married, then having to be separated after marriage. In hindsight, he thought they should have done the fiance visa. But on the other hand, if you go the Fiance Visa route, your honeymoon either has to be in the US or will have to be delayed. I think there is a bit more burden of proof if you get married and don't actually live together, but I think others can testify on that topic.
Ii think how much/ what proof you have doesn´t depend wheter you are married or not, but on the couple itself. for example we had: health insurance, life insurance, car insurance, lease, boarding passes, pics, bank accounts, affidavits, passport stamps,... and we´ve been married. when we got married i lived in austria and i still live here, but i´m gonna move soon...
either way they´ll be apart and it´s basically the only decision they have to make "be apart before the marriage or be apart after the marriage" and maybe the financial one since CR-1 is cheaper and the immigrant has a greencard right away.

It's possible the past issues will come up no matter which one you file for, as the US does background checks while processing the petition. You would need to file CR-1 if you intend to stay in the US while filing. However, this visa is for those getting married on a whim, as the usual route is to wait for the paperwork to process while both people are in their home countries. That would be an I-130.
wow!!! so when me and my husband decidet to get married and firl for CR-1 then it was on a whim!? not because if you enter the US on a CR-1/ IR-1 visa you get a greencard right away, you are allowed to work right away, it´s cheaper and just ~2 months longer!?
btw, if you make CR-1/IR-1 you have to wait in your homecountry too for the interview. yes, you can go visit your partner in the us, but the interview is in the homecountry of the beneficiary. what you are talking about is a "spontaneous" wedding and then adjustment of status which can be a grey zone. because it´s just legal if the non usc did not enter the USA with the intend to get married and stay! so, OP cannot get married to her boyfriend and then adjust status. they already plan that which makes is illegal...
OP, either do the K-1 (fiance) or CR-1 (spouse/ immediate relative with conditions) and have your fiance/husband stay in the us with you for as long as he is allowed with/without his visa (i don´t kknow how long canadians are allowed to stay) and then have him go back to canada for his interview. that would be the correct and 100% leegal way!
the K-3 is for spouses, but it´s a non immigrant visa and you´d have to AOS in the US which makes it expensive. also it´s normally closed at the NVC and they proceed with the CR-1.

Some people may think, that breaking up is a solution..i don't really think so.. i believe that what God has blessed and bind together, nothing/no one can ever separate them no matter what circumstances is.:-)
sorry, I didn´t mean that you should break up, I just wrote that to kinda show how serious your situation can get if you don´t find a co sponsor and that maybe his mom would understand the consequences... did she tell you why she chaged her mind and is it a "valid" reason or "just for fun"?
