  1. Find out from the consulate about the validity. Meanwhile, i would suggest find out what documents are required to submit for pcc. Here in india we had to submit 2 affidavits from govt employees along with the application and that alone took a while for me to get ready. So get everything done, fill out the forms and keep the application ready. As soon as you get NOA2, start with the process.

  2. Hey guys!

I am debating here on what to do ...

Some of you allready know the story, for others here in short : Went to Embassy last week, missed out on a paper (birthcertificate of Joint Sponsor, basically proof of citizenship) .. anyways,, Called the Embassy back later to ask them what kind of copy they needed,, they said certified copy...

NOW.. If you read the instructions for the filing of I 864 for Joint Sponsor, (where NVC should of noticed it was missing.) It says: For U.S. citizens or nationals, a copy of your birth certificate, passport, or certificate of naturalization or citizenship

    So A COPY.

    NO specifications...

See, tomorrow I have to go back to the Embassy, if I have the document.. They only take 'comebacks' on Thursdays, If I don't have the original through UPS by tmorrowmorning, here I have another delay of a week to go back up there...

    What would you do??

Go with a regular copy anyway? If UPS doesnt get the original to me by tmrwmorning?

    Thanks for any advice!

I really dont know what to do!

I gave a copy of my joint sponsors birth certificate too. they accepted it.

  3. We wish all the October 26 candidates the very best with your interviews.

    October 26th:

    Shannon & Jamie - Montreal

My wife & Kennilope - Vietnam

    Ine & Richard - Norway

Yesterday my wife had her visa interview and by the grace of the Almighty, she successfully cleared it.

Chennai Consulate didn't allow me in but wife could get in an hour early at 12 noon (interview at 1 PM). The first person checked all her documents, photos and asked her for my 1040 (we submitted I-864 using IRS Tax Transcripts). Since we were ready with copies of 2010, 2009 & 2008 tax returns, she gave those to him. He then browzed through the I-864 documents asked if she will be able to provide any co-sponsor as I was a student for 2 years prior to my current employment. We were ready for this too and she gave him my dad's I-864 and he than said that the case now very strong for favorable consideration.

Then her finger prints were taken and at 1:10, I had my interview with the CO (a young American lady) and here are the questions she asked.

Q1 - Is yours an arranged marraige?

    A1 - Yes.

Q2 - How did the proposal come about?

A2 - She explained in detail.

Q3 - How many guests were present at your wedding?

    A3 - She answered 16.

    Q4 - Only 16?

A4 - She answered saying that it was a registered marraige and only 16 were allowed inside the Marraige Registrar's Office and that we had reception after that.

Then she asked for marraige album and hardly looked at two or three pictures and gave it back.

Q5 - When did you husband move to US?

    A5 - She answered it.

Q6 - What is his occupation?

    A6 - She ansered it.

Than she told her that the visa will be couriered in 7 business days. So she was out by 1:15 PM.

It looks like AOS is taking the prime importance at the Consulates - particularly in India. For those that will be attending their interviews, I strongly suggest that you take a copy of tax returns if you have submitted IRS Tax Transcripts (yesterday they asked for W-2s of Ganesh during hios wife's interview). And to those that were students in the past 3 years, please take a co-sponsor set even if you are now making 100,000.

Once again I thanks all the VJers for their contribution to our succssful journey.

Congratulations NavyK! And yes you are right about the sponsorship. Even my husband was a student earlier so even we had taken joint sponsorship. They are giving importance to that. Anyhow, glad to hear you cleared it....

  4. Thanks Dave & Kinnari and Ganesh86. The feeling is unmatched. When she said your visa is approved, i couldn't stop smiling all the way back. Anyhow i got an sms today from VFS that my passport is ready and that if i wanted to, i could collect it by hand between 4-5 pm at chennai VFS. But i already came back yesterday. So it will be delivered to my home soon. But if people would like to get it early, you guys could stick around in chennai for a day and get it the next.

  5. I am back with an Approval! Thanks to the Almighty and everyone at VJ for their good wishes.

The actual interview went smooth, but i had to wait 4 1/2 hours for my number to take turn. Got in at 12:30, got out at 5. A total of 30 applicants, i was called in on 27th number. There is no sequence order. They randomly call out numbers. She asked only a few questions which were very simple to answer. And its done. One piece of advice, no matter how excited or anxious or nervous you are, do not miss a good night's sleep. Or else it can be a really really long and tiring day and also DO NOT go empty stomach, i repeat DO NOT go on an empty stomach. Carry as much evidence as you can to prove an ongoing relationship. That is of utmost importance to them. Yes carrying your huge wedding albums can be embarrassing but, it matters. And the one question that the CO asked every SINGLE applicant is how you met your spouse. And she actually goes in details, like if it was arranged, who arranged it, where, how, and just like that you decided to get married and stuff like that. So be prepared to justify your marriage arrangement. But one good thing is that she hardly denied anybody a visa. Almost all got an approval except for maybe 3 or 4 who got admin process which means a slight delay. And people with insufficient finance, doesn't matter as long as you take joint sponsorship. These are the only 2 criteria on which she was sending people back.

  6. Finally its the day i can say my interview is tomorrow. Up until now it was on 18th Oct, but today, its tomorrow!! I couldn't sleep the whole night, i woke up like a gazzilion times to check my phone for the date to make sure its still 17th and not 18th. I even dreamed my interview with a consular officer. She asked me an English proverb and asked me to explain it, lol people. I am soooo losing it.

  7. Thx visapetition.

I am wondering about forms like DS3032 and DS 230, Are these have to be completed and signed by beneficiary spouse and mail from their countries to NVC? Also IV bill payement, can the petitioner spouse pays that here? The "generated" DS-230 or I-1864 is confusing a bit. are these standard forms that can be downloaded and have them ready in advance?

Thx again for your time and help.

The DS3032 has to be signed by beneficiary in ink. It can be mailed to NVC from any country. Doesn't matter so long as the sign is in ink, not scanned. The AOS and IV fees has to be paid online on the travelstate website. Anybody can pay it. The petitioner can pay it, doesn't matter. The DS 230 and I-864 forms are available to download for free and can be filled in advance. The NVC will not send any physical forms for you to fill out nor any notification requesting these forms. As soon as the fees' are paid, your cover sheets will be generated with a unique bar code. You can download those sheets from your payment portal. That is the indication that you can now submit DS230 and I864. For submitting DS230, you will require other doc's like original marriage and birth cert and PCC's. Getting Pcc's can be a lengthy process depending on where you live. Find out all the additional doc's you require for Pcc's and get them ready. Also the DS 230 must be fully filled out but signed only on Part 1 and the I-864 must also be signed in ink. Some people make the mistake of scanning these and e-mail them to their agent/lawyer to send to the nvc and get a RFE. Don't be stingy in trying to save a couple of bucks and do not fully depend on any agents/lawyers. All the info is available online. Research and follow instructions to the point, you should be ok.

  8. If her income is sufficient, she can show her income only in the her I-864 and include copies of her W-2, which shows her income along with the IRS Tax Transcripts or the full tax return (which has W-2 copies). But I encourage you to get I-864A of f her husband - it is more safer. I saw cases where consulate asked for additional sponsor when the current sponsor is jus a little more than 125%. But if your sisters income is high good for 4 people, then you are fine.

Well her income is almost enough for 8 people. So i guess i shouldn't worry abt getting 864a from her hubby..

  9. Hi all, someone please give me a good explanation. I took joint sponsorship from my husbands cousin. She is a woman, she has a kid and a husband. She filed an I-864. Her tax returns are filed jointly with her husband. Now is all of this ok or would i have to file a I-864a from her husbands behalf too. Her income is enough to sponsor me, i mean including her family plus me. We don't need her husbands income, just hers is enough. Thanks!

  10. Ok while we are at it, i am going to clarify my doubt too. See my husbands income was not enough too, so we submitted an I-864 by him and we took joint sponsorship from his cousin. She filed an I-864 separately. So that should be fine right? She doesn't stay with my hubby obviously. Her income is more than enough. I hope they won't have problem with that!?

  11. That can't be true. how come Chennai Apollo did not give us the immunization records for port of entry? anyone from Chennai medical can comment? quite confusing with everyone posting their own versions.

Maybe at Chennai they include the immunization chart in the sealed envelope and at the time of interview when the consular officer opens the medical package will hand it to you. If it worries you a lot, call the medical center at Chennai and tell them about other people's experience and ask them about it. I am sure they will be able to answer.

  12. Medical Day 3

Hello all, got my medical reports today. 1 sealed envelope for the interview and 2 immunization charts for port of entry. Today it only took like 5 minutes. Thank god its done. Will got to VFS in Oct 1st week for the next steps.

Thanks ganesh86 for the info on VFS procedure. And i am surprised they charged a total of 6000. I wonder how i got exempted at almost half of that.
