  1. I called them last Friday morning and left a message that I was hoping to get a medical done quickly as I'd only be in Toronto for a week. They called me back Friday afternoon with a Monday a.m. appointment. $300 cash, bring your passport photos, passport and interview letter and you are good. They had me come back Mon afternoon to do some immunizations that I couldn't show records for. Picked up the results Wed at noon. I thought the Toronto medical was super efficient.

  2. Thanks for the DHL link.

Went out today to get the 3 passport photos required for the medical on Monday.

@Evilsquee Was your fiance trying to get a medical in Toronto ? When I spoke to them Friday they said I could come Mon, Tues, or Wed just had to bring the interview letter, passport, 3 passport photos, any immunization records and $300 cash.

Maybe difference between K1 and CR1

  3. Finally got an interview for July 12th.

I guess I'll see some of you there !

I called Dr. Seidens on Friday and was able to get in for my medical this coming Monday. Great news as I'm leaving Toronto this coming Friday for good. The one thing I haven't figured out yet is how to set up DHL. Do I do that now or at the interview ? I'll read up on it later in the day but if anyone has figured this out, let me know.

    Good luck to all !

  4. Maybe a stupid question.

Obviously like everyone else I want an interview ASAP. Is calling everyday going to get me one any faster. I thought I read that they send an email within hours of scheduling your interview. What I'm getting at is if all I'm going to be doing by calling every day is drive myself crazy ... well you know. If I can get actually get an interview faster, I'll call twice a day !

This is getting more stressful now. I have movers moving me out of my place in Toronto end of June, everything going into storage until I have the visa. Going to have to sit out the last little bit in Winnipeg. At least I'll get a nice visit with my mom. Cutting over to my US job July 1 (fortunate that my company is letting me transfer) but will be staying on the Canadian payroll and doing it remotely from Canada until I can physically be in the US. My travel schedule between Canada and the US for work is constant so not knowing when the interview will be or when I will be without a passport is stressing me out.

I looked up the stats for CR1 for Canada and NOA2 to interview was 154 days. That can't be right ....

    Okay ... happy thoughts :)

Saylin ... Happy (late) anniversary ! Glad you had an awesome day !

Congrats to everyone on their NVC completes and interview approvals. I don't post much but read everyone's progress frequently.

  5. Holy Moly ....

Saylin, I don't even know what to say.

You're so generous with your knowledge and time on here. It's no surprise that so many people are coming out of the woodwork with messages of encouragement and support. Your goodwill has touched many !

Karma is a funny thing. I wouldn't be surprised if that girl stepped off a curb and got hit by a bus.

Hang in there. My only advice is don't make any fast emotional decisions. I know there are lots of emotions but it always makes sense to step back and make sure you're making a logical decision and not purely an emotional one. You may come to the same conclusion. You know this, you're a smart cookie !

Hang in there ... thinking about you.

  6. Saylin,

    You rock !

Similar question to what I asked on your May NVC thread yesterday.

This is all so nicely laid out on VJ that I feel like I only complicated things by getting an immigration lawyer. So, he's doing electronic processing for us. We're all ready to fly through NVC just waiting for case number and to pay the fees.

My fear was that if I called and opted in for email that I would somehow undo what he's set up for electronic processing. So, I still need to give NVC my emails, he does the DS260 via electronic processing and all the other stuff by electronic processing.

Basically all the emails do is notify me when stuff is happening so I can keep on top of him ?

  7. From Health Canada's website. Fortunately Manitoba didn't apply this 3 month wait.

How do I resume my health care coverage when returning to Canada following a lengthy absence?

A three-month waiting period is usually applied before coverage is reinstated. For information on requirements and conditions for reinstating health insurance coverage, contact the Ministry of Health of the province or territory to which you intend to return.

I took a look at OHIP's site and looks like they do apply this 3 month rule.

That said, they state that 3 months from the date of residence which to me would mean the day you get back to Canada. If you're here .... you're a resident regardless of your healthcare status.

  8. At the risk of veering off topic a little bit.

I believe that you were advised wrong on the health piece. I'm Canadian was a resident in BC before moving to the US on a work Visa. Once I was down there I cancelled the BC Health. Returned to Canada 9 months later (was not gone for 1 year), this time to Manitoba. Went in to get a Manitoba Health card and they gave it to me the same day. I seem to remember them saying that if I was transferring from another province there would have been a year waiting period but since I was returning from the US ... basically welcome back. I'd take a closer look at that if I were you.

Sadly ... taxes are above my head.

  9. Saylin,

Just want to say that you are awesome for putting together all of this !

So, I just called NVC and learned that my case was received Apr.23. I was expecting to punch in a series of numbers to enter my CIS number per your instructions but once I pressed 1 for english it routed me through to an operator.

    A quick question.

    1) We're using an immigration lawyer. So, once I get my NVC Case number and IIN number I do not email opt in as the lawyer is already set up ... correct ?

  10. Still waiting .... NOA1 was approved Nov 9 so hopefully will hear something soon. The good news is I haven't had any problems yet going back and forth to the Us which I'm required to do for work. I carry a "ties to Canada" package with me but haven't had to use it yet. I think they just look at the number of US stamps in my passport and wave me on.

  11. Got the hard copy NOA1. Was really hoping we'd get routed to Vermont as they seem to be processing faster but we got California. Now we wait till end of March / beginning of April I guess.

Also, started putting together a package showing ties to Canada (lease, pay stubs, future travel itineraries) for crossing the border. I cross often for work and am just anticipating that I'm going to get a hard time from US customs now that my i130 is on file.

  12. Hi there,

Hoping that someone can provide some advice.

I am a Canadian who was transferred from Canada to work in the US in July 2009. I was given an L1A visa good through July 2012.

I left the US and returned to work in Canada in May of 2010. Stopped at the border to do the paperwork to import the car that I bought in the US but did not return my I94.

October 2011, I was married in the USA to my wife who is American. She maintains residence in the US. Is currently in Canada as a visitor.

My new employer is now considering moving me back to the US (which would be great for my wife) as she could work again.

1st Question. Am I better off to begin family class sponsorship or to get my employer to L1 visa me and apply for family class sponsorship after I am back in the US.

2nd Question. Will not having returned my I94 be a problem if either my employer sponsors a visa or my wife sponsors a visa ?

thanks in advance for your response
