  1. Nothing yet. I wrote the IO a letter asking the status of my case today so hopefully I'll hear something back soon but if not, I have also contacted my senior US senator so he can put some presure on them since I have passed the tests and met all requirements.

I guess all i can do now is wait.

Good luck with your case and keep us informed once u get ur oath date.

Thanks for your response. Hopefully we will get it soon. Can't believe we are getting stuck in the last step.

I will keep you informed, hopefully soon.

  2. I didn't think of that but it sounds like a great idea. I'll wait untill first week of january and call him. The only problem is that i requested a name change so i just wanted to be on the Feb10th oath at the court cause thats the next one on their website.

    Thanks!

Hi, any luck in getting your oath letter?

I interviewed a month ago, in Boston, and I am still waiting for my oath letter. I don't understand why, the officer didn't mention anything missing or abnormal. My N-652 said "recommended for approval", there is one ceremony per week in January and I saw people who interviewed after I did in the same office got their letter and date set. Totally scratching my head.

  3. You don't even have to be here legally. All aliens with exceptions that meet the age and gender criteria are required to register as well, not just LPR's.

Technically, three types of male between the age of 18 and 26 are required to register: US citizens, LPRs and illegal immigrants. One is exempted if in the US on a valid non-immigrant visa such as F1, H1B etc. The requirement of illegal immigrants is a gray area since they are not in the US on a valid visa obviously, yet the government can't really put in any specific language to require illegal immigrants to register, doing so means the government endorses illegal immigration. This becomes an issue when an illegal immigrant gains legal status and eventually applies for citizenship.

  4. If you want to give yourself the peace of mind, download the form from here (http://www.sss.gov/PDFs/PrinterFriendly/status.pdf) and send the request to SSS. They will send you a letter in SSS letterhead saying that you are not required to register for SS. They responded very quickly in my case.

I bought the letter with me to the interview but was never asked anything about selective service.

  5. Shouldn't the oath letter come within 45 days after your approval? If so, you have a whole month in which you could still receive that letter. Don't worry, it will come :)

I also read something about getting the 45 days after approval. Yet there seems to be a gray area created by USCIS to cover their own backs, based on my conversation with the customer service people and my reading of some posts in the forum. Since the N-652 form given after the interview only say you are "recommended for approval", they can always argue that technically the case has not actually been approved by a supervisor. Hence the exact time of approval is whatever they say.

Anyone could shed some light on this issue?

  6. Hi everyone: just wondering if there are any members who interviewed in Boston recently and still waiting for oath letter.

I interviewed almost a month ago, passed the tested, received N-652 saying "recommended for approval" and was given a white envelop with president's letter/passport application/etc., but was told that the oath letter would come in the mail. It's almost a month and I know that there are at least 3 oath ceremonies in January in Boston. Not sure what's holding up.

Anyone has similar experience. I greatly appreciate if you could share. Thanks!

  7. It's just a little puzzling as how they do things. My DO is Boston. I've read that most people in Boston received oath letters at the interview. I recently (after waiting for almost 6 months) had my interview, passed the test and received N-652 with "recommended for approval", but was sent home to wait for the oath letter. Reading from different forums, it looks like there are a few applicants in the Boston office who interviewed in the past month or so. Anyone has experience to share? Thanks!

  8. I saw that quite a lot of people receive their oath letters immediately after their interviews, even if same-day oath is not an option.

    My question is:

If the USCIS computer system allows the adjudications officers to print out oath letters from their computers at the interviews, why will it take some people weeks or even months to receive oath letters, given that those people are also "recommended for approval"? How does oath scheduling actually work?

  9. Ok, so here is the review of my husband's interview in Boston! He got there around 2:15 I think (appt at 2:30). They took him around 3pm and by 3:15 I had a text from him saying he had passed the test. He said it was very serious when he was in there, but pretty straight forward. They had a HUGE file on us from the past 5 years of sending information in! After the testing, writing, reading he had to wait about 40 minutes for the oath date, which was October 13th. Unfortunately, we will be in Florida and unable to do the oath that day, so he wrote in when he was available and we have to wait for the oath date in the mail. Hopefully it's not held up too long! I was shocked the date they gave us was only 2 weeks away too! If you have any questions or I missed anything, let me know! Also, only 6 questions because he got them all correct in a row.

    Questions:

Name a state that borders Canada.

    How many Senators are there?

What ocean is on the East Coast?

    What is freedom of religion?

    When was the Constitution written?

What age must someone enroll in the selective service?

That's very nice. Does the Boston DO seem busy?

Finally I am sick of waiting and getting conflicting information through the customer service, I made an Infopass appointment for next week. I have filed for more than 3 months and I am still at "initial review...fingerprint notice mailed..." stage.

  10. Not sure if asking to speak to a 2nd level officer would help or not. Although you are in the time frame they say you should be, it feels awfully a long time since the status updated.

Try also to see if you can schedule an infopass. I am not sure if you will be able to but give it a shot.

Another thing you can do is call the FBI and see if your FPs cleared...

I've been thinking about an Infopass...apparently calling has no use anymore...

Both USCIS and FBI told me that my FP have been cleared...

  11. When did you get the status change? If it is within a certain time period, you can call and place a service request and have them mail you again the FP letter. Some people skip it and go straight to the interview letter....

I do not see your information in the list - it is difficult to tell where you stand other than the fact that I am assuming you applied in June....

My priority date is 6/22...I did my fingerprint 8 weeks ago...called them a couple times to ask why am I not at least placed in line for interview schedule and was told to wait...

I was told in my latest conversation with them that they have 5 months to process the application. I asked the lady if 5 months means from start to finish (oath and receive naturalization certificate)? She couldn't give me a straight answer!

  12. We are on the same boat, my last updated was on July 19 (in line for interview), received yellow letter on Sep 1(asking me to bring my diver license to the interview. No sign of interview letter yet. :(

At least you guys are ahead of me...I am still at "Initial Review...We sent you a fingerprint appointment notice..."

  13. Hi all,

I did mt FP 3 weeks ago, but my online status still stayes the same in initial review. I see most of the people here had their status changed to inline for interview scheduling within few days.

Did anyone had the same thing?

    Thanks

I am in the same situation. I did my FP almost a month ago, online status still says initial review. I have even received the yellow letter for the list of document to bring to the interview. Called them multiple times, no help but verified that both FP and namecheck were both done.

My guess, based on reading posts in this forum and other forums, is that some people won't get their status update until close to interview schedule and then the status suddenly changes from "initial review" to "in line for interview schedule" to "interview scheduled" within a couple hours. But this is only my wild guess, and, if true they select people to go through this anxiety in a complete random fashion.

  14. crow2011,

Every case is different, but in my case I did FP on Apr 24 and the status online changed when they put me under in-line for interview on May 9.

I agree. USCIS processes are random at best. I did my FP almost a month ago and my online status is still saying "Initial Review"..."Fingerprint notice mailed..."

I called them a couple times to figure why I wasn't at least placed in line for interview scheduling and they tried to convince me that it is normal. I feel both angry and laughable when they say it's "standard" or "normal". As all of us who have dealt with USCIS multiple times know there is nothing "standard" with them.

I have fulfilled all the residency and all other requirements when I submitted my application (i.e. they have no excuse to wait for 90 days until I can legally be naturalized), I verified that my namecheck and fingerprint have been completed. I have no idea what's stopping them. The only thing I could guess after looking through this forum and other online forums is that either there is a backlog or too many people at USCIS are taking summer vacation during the month of August, everything is slowing down. Hope things change when September arrives.

  15. Very bizarre! I hope you hear some news soon

Called the FBI again, this time specially asked if my fingerprints were readable and successfully processed. I was told yes, everything was good. At least one sure thing to check off.

Maybe someone committed a crime in my name now I'm stuck in name check, but my understanding is that even criminals will be scheduled for interview they will just be denied after the interview.

  16. That sucks you had to go so far as to sue them :-(

Wait, you got the yellow letter? Isn't that the interview letter?

Nope, it specifically says "This is not an interview notice".

It just says to bring my DL to my interview. When I asked the customer service if I should be at least in the schedule stage to receive this letter, they said no. But based on what I've seen in other people's timelines in this forum and other forums, rarely do people receive the yellow letter so early.

  17. I feel for you. I've spent ages waiting for my I-485 to get approved. When I finally sued them, it turned out that they just misplaced my case somehow. And I've received all kinds of different answers when I called them millions of times.

I wish that wasn't happening now.

It's a shame that they have all the IT tools but fail to utilize them.

  18. Judging by the reasons they gave you, it sounds like it may have been passed along but someone forgot to update the online portion maybe? I don't get why they won't just tell you! 5 different answers is a bit much!

That's why I am so nervous. Waiting with reasons is fine but if they made a mistakes I'd be so mad. Why can't they tell us? It affects our lives and well being.

I have even received the yellow letter more than a month ago!

  19. Probably you should call and see if your fingerprints cleared or not yet. I think until your background check clears - they will not proceed to the next step...

I called the FBI and was told that my fingerprint results were sent back to USCIS the same day I did it. I assumed that it was fine but both the FBI and USCIS refused to let me know if it was cleared. I'd imagine if there was a hit they would go through more digging, or if it was rejected I'd know by now.

I didn't think it's name check because it only took me 7 weeks during I-485 from the time I dropped it off at the post office and received my green card. This suggested to me my name check was cleared quite rapidly, I didn't change my name or committed any crime through the years. Perhaps it's payback time now I have to wait extra long for N-400 since my I-485 was so fast.

When I called USCIS (multiple times), I've got different answers including: 1. my file has already been forwarded to my local office; 2. my file is in transit; 3. my file is still in NBC; 4. it's still early we are not going to do anything; 5. it's in line but we don't have a date yet

The most convincing answer I got was when a lady picked up the phone and I told her my situation, she immediately said to me don't believe what the online status says. However, when she tried to look it up on the computer the systems crashed and when I called back another person picked up he was grumpy and almost yelled at me for calling.

  20. I just got the email that my husband has been scheduled for an interview. Letter within 14 days!

Good for you. I'm from Boston too. I believe I sent my application a week before you did and did fingerprint more than two weeks ago, my online status is still at the fingerprint notice stage, not even in line for scheduling. Really sucks...
