  1. have a joint bank account?

i not read of you sending out 24 months of monthly bank statements on this joint bank account.

did you do that, or no ? if no, why no ?

health insurance cards implies health insurance payments, which implies a monthly statement , which may imply monthly statement showing both names. got it? get 24 months worth of it !

No we didn't think we needed to get 24 months worth of statements. We just included a few. We'll make sure we go as far back as we can. Thank you!

  2. First off I'll just come off and recognize my situation is the total opposite of what a immigration employee I'm sure looks for when scanning applications. I do not make much money, wife and I still live with my parents saving for a house due to paying off my student loans, and I really don't own much of anything.

    We sent them:

    -Copies of driver licenses

-Everything we could muster from our bank showing a joint account

-Pet forms showing joint ownership of pets

-Tax forms showing joint filing (As many years back as I could go)

    -Letters

    -Health insurance cards

I literally don't have much else to show and they sent us a RFE. The only other thing I can think of is we just had a baby and I can include his birth certificate. Please help I don't want to lose my wife or my child! Do I need to go and take out loans and buy cars so I can show we jointly own something expensive? I'll do whatever they want! Please help. :(

  3. Correction: this is for adjustment of status from a K-1 fiance visa. The green card isn't automatic. After the beneficiary enters on the K-1 visa and the two of you get married, you have to file I-485 to adjust status from K-1 nonimmigrant fiance to conditional permanent resident (2-year green card). That's why I asked about the I-485 filing date and NOA1 information—you don't just go straight from K-1 visa to biometrics.

Thank you, yes it is for adjustment of status from K-1 fiance visa. Check my signature for dates, the I-485 was done on Aug 28th. We filled it out at the USCIS local office at St. Paul, MN. We did not apply for EAD or AP. We also have kept any and all documents pertaining to the entire process. So any form they handed us we have kept.

  4. The "man" could not have possibly known when her GC will be sent: for all you know, they may call her in for an interview before they issue her her GC. Didi she also apply for EAD and AP at the same time? They usually arrive a month or so sooner than the GC, so you can gauge from that.

We applied for neither of those since she doesn't need to work and have no hurries to return to her country (we tried to keep everything as simple and easy on us as possible). I also am aware they could ask her for an interview, but running on 3 months seems long. So unfortunately I can not gauge from EAD or AP. I will update my signature also.

  5. No, Waiting two weeks is overly conservative. They cannot get an SSN without being recorded in the SAVE system which records legal entries into the USA. The SAVE system is updated every night. It is possible that there could be glitches and something does not get entered but it is rare. The SSN is also generated overnight and if you go back the next day you can ask the clerk for your SSN. The card comes in a week or so, but you do not need the card.

MANY SS office employees do not know how it works, so be prepared to ask a supervisor.

Thank you! :) I'll take that route then and have her apply for SSN immediately, and the next day go back and apply for marriage liscense!

  6. You can get the SSN the day after she arrives in her maiden name (as in passport) Do not leave until you get a receipt for the application. If they have any trouble ask for a supervisor. Change the name after she has a green card (if you want to, not required)

Is the processing time longer if I apply right away vs waiting two weeks? Going this route can I apply for SSN the day after, and then immediately go apply for marriage license (assuming I don't need a SSN for marriage license)?

  7. Hey everyone, my fiance is set to arrive to the US very soon and I was wondering if we should get a SSN before or after we get married? I've heard this saves time as you don't need to go through the name change on the SSN, but I've also heard of people who have gotten denied SSN from applying after marriage.

I used search and found similar topics but times and laws change so often I wanted to get "newer" thoughts on this.

Also if it matters I live in Minnesota.

    Thanks for your input!

  8. Does my fiance need to get a police certificate from New Zealand if she had an extended stay visit of 11 months? She was there on an extended stay visa, does that mean she needs a police certificate from there? Living there vs resident question... It says all countries where applicant has lived. What does lived mean? Does my fiance qualify as needing a police certificate from NZ?

    The police certificate says this:

Each applicant aged 16 years and older must submit a certificate from the appropriate judicial or police authorities of the present country of residence and all countries where the applicant has lived for six months or more since age 16 (Police Certificates are also required for accompanying children age 16 or older).

For countries maintaining national police records, a certificate from the national police or judicial authorities must be submitted. For countries not maintaining national police records, a certificate must be obtained from each locality of residence.
