  1. Hello. My name is Matthew, I am a US citizen by birth, but have lived my whole life in the Philippines. Last June I flew back to the US to enlist in the military. I have successfully done that, and I am currently awaiting my start date, which is in May, 2012. As of the moment I am unemployed, and am solely relying on my parents financial help.

Before I flew to the US, I filed an I-130 petition for my wife (who is a filipino citizen). While I was in the US, my wife who stayed in the Philippines received a letter stating that our I-130 petition has been approved, and that we need to mail in the DS-230 and Notification of Applicant Readiness forms in order for my wife to be scheduled for an interview. I was also told at the embassy that since I am unemployed, I will need a co-sponsor to fully sponsor my wife. I spoke to my uncle who lives in the US and is financially capable, and he has agreed to be the sponsor. I was told by the US embassy that my wife will need to bring all the necessary documents of financial support from my uncle to the interview, included ofcourse the I-864 form.

Now my question is, what exact documents will I need to ask from my uncle? Keep in mind that my uncle lives in the US, and my wife is in the Philippines, and she will have her interview at the US embassy in Manila. Will we need original copies of financial proof from my uncle or will photocopies be sufficient?

    Thanks for all the help.

    -Matthew R.

  2. My wife and I submitted an I-130 petition at the US Embassy in Manila in June. Since then I flew to the US to enlist in the US Navy. My wife who is still in the Philippines just received a letter from USCIS stating that our I-130 petition has been approved. They are now requesting for her to submit an I-485 form together with approval letter. She has 30 days to do it.

My question is when will we have to submit the I-864 form (Affidavit of Support) together with financial documents? Do we get a certain time frame for us to submit it? Or can we submit it anytime?

  3. I sent an email to the Immigrant Visa Section of the US Embassy in Manila, Philippines. I requested a follow up on the I-130 petition I filed for my wife in at the US Embassy in Manila. I just received an email from them stating that our petition was approved on August 4. But my wife who is in the Philippines now has not received any letter yet.

How long does it usually take before she gets the letter from the time the petition was approved?

Also what does the approval letter consist of?

  4. Once the I-130 is approved, you're done with USCIS. Did you DCF? If so, then you would be sending material to the Embassy, if not, then you would be sending material to the NVC.

    :time:

By DCF, if you mean that we submitted the I-130 petition at the US Embassy in Manila Philippines, then yes. My wife hasn't received the letter yet, but I know it's been approved because I emailed the embassy for an update on our petition. And i got a reply that it was approved on August 4.

Do you know how much time we get to send in the material to the Embassy? Is there a certain time frame they give us?

    Thanks for the reply.

  5. I received an email stating that the I-130 petition which I submitted in Manila for my wife has been approved on August 4, 2011. However my wife who is in the Philippines has not received the letter in the mail yet. I was told that after receiving the letter of approval, we will have to submit a package back to the USCIS. How long do they give you to do that?

  6. My wife and I submitted the I-130 petition at the US Embassy in Manila on June 3, 2011. We we're told that the process of the visa getting approved would take about 6 months. On June 15, 2011 I left for Florida, USA. I'm here now living at my cousin's place. I'm also in the process of enlisting in the US Navy. My wife is still in the Philippines because we're waiting for the I-130 approval. We're getting worried because we have not yet heard anything from the USCIS regarding our petition. The mailing address that we gave was our address in the Philippines. We gave them everything required and the officer at the embassy also said that we are good to go. We we're told that the process takes 3-6 months. But does anybody know of a way how I can contact the USCIS to follow up on our petition? How long did it take for others to get their I-130 approval?
