  1. As I promised, here is the update! We had the interview on Tuesday. We added a supplemental page for this question and just told the truth. When they checked our documents the second time. The guy that was checking them asked her about her father. She said that he is in the US, and then he asked if she has contact with him, and she said she talks to him on the phone but not very often. And that was all, she was approved, and the interviewer did not even ask about it! I hope this helps someone in the future!!

  2. So we just arrived home from Rio, and we had absolutely zero problems. I know people always say this is the easy part, but trust me, it really is! I will submit a extensive review on the consulate review page, but let me just say it was so easy! We arrived their at about 7:00 had the nice lady in the green vest look at our pictures. Walked in the building, went upstairs, they made us fill out two forms, and gave us a paper that told us the order the documents. Ours were already in the right order so we were the first ones finished! After that we were the first ones to have our papers checked the second time, and then we were the first ones to be interviewed. The actual interview took less than 5 minuets. The interviewer was very nice. He asked simple questions, and we were finished before we knew it!! All in all is was a good experience, it was super easy, and we had absolutely no problems!! If you have any questions please feel free to ask and I will answer to the best of my ability!

  3. If she knows for sure that he is in US, then mark it. However if she is not sure about his whereabouts 100% I would just say "No". It is not lying if you are not sure about his whereabouts. I was going thru the security clearance and had the same situation as they were asking the location of my biological father, which I have no contact with, so I just put "unknown". I knew where he could be, but I wasn't sure. And I had no issues.

She is positive that he is in the US, its his status that we are not %100 about. She is pretty sure he is illegal, but do we need to say illegal, or working?

  4. So my Fiancees father left her and her family when she was about 5, she has not seen him since then. She does not really know a lot about her father, she does not even know his address. She talks to him on the phone every blue moon, but that is all the contact she has with him. She thinks he left on a tourist visa, but he has been living in the US illegally for a long time. She has heard from her other family members that he has been trying to become legal, but she is not sure.

Anyway, I know that we have to mark that he is in the US, we would never chance lying to the consulate, but the way the question is worded makes me a little confused. Should we mark that he is in the US, and say in the blank that he is illegal, or should we say in the blank that he is working. Because he is working, he is actually a pastor in a Brazilian church... it says in the instructions, that you are to mark yes or no and indicate that person's status in the U.S. (i.e., U.S. legal permanent resident, U.S. citizen, visiting, studying, working, etc.)

let me know what you guys think.

  5. the tax returns do not have to match stated income. Many people have non-taxable income that is not reported on a 1040. I did. My tax returns, I-134 and bank statements all showed different amounts. Not a problem.

Just attach documentation for all his income that he claims ALONG WITH the tax return. They are not auditing him, they are determining if he makes enough money. He does.

That's great, I knew I was worried about nothing. So I need to get proof of all of the extra things like the savings and stocks, That should not be to hard. Can they be copy's or do they need to be originals?

So do I need to get other forms or will I be ok with just my tax returns? My church does not really give out pay stubs, and I don't have any money in the bank currently. I guess if i asked I could get something from the church stating my tittle and salary, and that its a permanent job. What do you guys think?

  6. The 49k must be the net taxable and the 55k before taxes??

Just in case, I'd have letters from where he keeps stocks/bonds as to the balance; as well, banks have a special form for immigration purposes that report acocunts, balances, when they were open and averages in past 3 and 6 months.

I am not really that good with tax information, but on the form 1040 tax return it says that his gross income is 49,881. I am pretty sure that on the main church budget it says that he makes 55,000 but I am not %100. I don't really see where his net income is. However, I just read through his 2009 and 2008 returns and they are both above 55,000. 2009 being 55,309, and 2008 being 56,530.

I just don't want this to be a problem. I know that the I-134 is a important document, so i want to get it right. ;)

  7. Ok I know that the I-134 has been talked about a lot! However, I have a questions that I could not find with the search button.

My Father is going to Co-sponsor for me and my Fiancee, and he already filled out the paperwork and when he put his annual income he stated it being $55,000 which is what he makes on "paper" however his tax forms say that he makes $49,881. I would normally just ask him to fill out the form again, but I am already in Brazil and he is in the US. Will that variation be a problem when we go in for our interview?

Also he is a pastor of a church, and that means that he is self-employed. I have the last three year tax returns for him, will we need more proof for the interview. He filled out the form showing that he has savings in the Bank, personal property, Stocks and Bonds, and life insurance. Will I need to get proof of all of the things that he stated. I would think seeing as his yearly income is already sufficient to support himself, my mother, sister, and fiancee, it would not be needed. I would really like some extra input to help ease my mind.

I am currently sorta unemployed. I work at my church part time, but I do not get paid very much. Do I need to have pay stubs or will my tax return forms be sufficient for me also.

    Thanks Guys!!

  8. I have been using this forum since about August. It has helped me soooo much. If it was not for the information on this site I am sure me and my love would have not been able to get this far.

Me and my fiancee have been dating for about two years now, and we have been engaged for about a 9 months. Our Visa application is currently in Rio and our interview is on October 25th

We have been really busy trying to get all of the paperwork together. We just finished the Medical exam last week, and everything went smooth. However we just hit a bit of a bump.

I have been checking reading and searching but I cant seem to find the answer to this question. So i figured I would ask here.

My fiance has lived in the same state- Minas Gerais the same city- Governador Valadares, the same district- vila Isa, Heck even the same house since she was born.

We got the Federal Police certificate with no problems, and we got what we thought we needed about the State Public Security Secretariat which I thought was the civil police.

After we received those certificates, I checked to make sure they were right. And when I checked the web site it was about as clear as mud.

So I guess my question is will the Certificate that the Civil Police gave us in Governador Valadares be enough for the interview or do we have to go to the main office in Belo again to get a different paper.

The certificate that we received seems as though it is the same certificate that they show on the website. We really do not want to have to go back to Belo again, so any help would be very much appreciated.

    BTW this website is wonderful!!
