  1. I recently filed for a CRBA in Vancouver. I presented high school transcripts, w-2's, and a letter from a previous employer. They would not accept the letter, as it only listed the month and year, not the EXACT dates of employment. They asked for grade school report cards which I DID happen to have with me.

  2. SO IF I PUT UNEMPLOYED ON THE SECTION "APPLICANTS EMPLOYMENT LAST FIVE YEARS" ON MY WIFES G325A (THE BENEFICIARY) SHE IS PRESENTLY EMPLOYED IN MEXICO WILL IT HURT ME OR SHOULD I JUST INPUT HER INFO. AND ON THE SAMPLE G325A ON VJ IT SHOWS THAT THE APPLICANT PUT HER MAIDEN NAME FOR FAMILY NAME ON THE VERY BOTTOM BOX INSTEAD OF HER MARRIED NAME IS THIS CORRECT OR A TYPO? THANKS IN ADVANCE

You need to be completely honest in all aspects of this process. Do NOT put unemployed if she is currently working (or has been in the last 5 years)! Her current legal name is what goes at the bottom. Other name(s) would be her full maiden name.

  3. I am American, my wife is Canadian. We are beginning her DCF process with a lawyer.

For the times she is visiting me she needs to have health insurance. What should she do?

I've already called my provider and they won't cover her (even as my spouse) until she has legal residence in Massachusetts.

I know when my husband and daughter (Candian residents) have come to the States on vacations, we purchased 'travel coverage,' from Blue Cross. I'm sure there are many other companies that provide this service.

  4. Congratulations, Marie and Sam. I'd like to join in your celebration, as our NOA2 was sent out on September 23! So happy, but I know that the real waiting will now begin.

Please keep me updated about how you're all doing, and feel free to ask any questions.

Good luck, take care and God bless!

Congratulations on your petition approval. Hope the rest of this process goes quickly and smoothly for you... and the rest of us August filers! :)

  5. What you are confusing are two seperate items. Item 1 is the eligibility to obtain a SSN. In order for that to happen the SSA states that a K-1 visa hold is eligible to work and therefore may receive a SSN. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THE K-1 VISA HOLD IS ABLE TO WORK LEGALLY WITH JUST A SSC. Item 2 is the ability to LEGALLY work as a K-1 visa holder. For that you MUST have an EAD card or GC in order for the employer to fill out the I-9 form which is required for all new hires.

The OP is eligible for a SSC as a K-1 visa holder as long as the application is done before day 74 of the I-94 or within 2 weeks of it expiring. Once within that 2 week window SSA will not issue a SSN and then you will have to wait for the EAD or GC.

Thanks for clearing that up. As I said, I really had no idea.. probably a good thing to remember in the future when I think I can offer anyone assistance on a subject that I have no first-hand knowledge of. :)

OP, I hope you get everything sorted out, good luck!

  6. So, my fiance's POE was happy and easy and we have been together for the last week and a half and it is FANTASTIC.

However, today was very frustrating. We went to the Social Security office to apply for a SSN and even though we had all the information about K1 visas printed out, the woman AND her supervisor refused to give him one, saying he needed an EAD. Even on their computer screen, it said that K1 was authorized to work-- the K2 and K3 cells in the database underneath specifically said that authorization was needed. But, both the woman AND her supervisor said we needed proof from immigration, and got all snotty with me when I politely tried to explain.

    HELP!?

Not sure, but the instructions for K-1 seem as if he does have to file for Employment Authorization:

    Permission to Work

After admission, your fiancé(e) may immediately apply for permission to work by filing a Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization.

I have no idea really, just hope you get it sorted out!

  8. I have been searching the forums for some info on this, but haven't found anything as yet.

When I first came into Canada (in 2007)on a Temporary Resident Permit, I drove my American car across the border. As I wasn't filing for PR here in Canada, I wasn't required to go through the importing process. When my FL license plate expired, I simply stopped driving it and we have had it stored in the garage until about a month ago. I have returned to the States several times, but always by plane. On my most recent trip back to the States, I got my plates and insurance renewed because I plan to drive it back home (to FL) in November, when my current Visitor Record expires.

I am just wondering about any issues that might come up drving it back across the border... anyone know?

  9. He had it done at his local police station since the instructions stated that he could have it done there.

I'm not sure about the NCRR, he asked them for a Canada Wide Criminal Search for immigration purposes when he applied, and that is what was given to him.

I just wondered about the NCRR because I specifically remember that from the instructions that I read, somewhere.

My husband just got his back today, it's a yellow piece of paper that says "Canadian Police Certificate for employment, visa applicants, foreign travel/work permits," but I believe there are a couple different acceptable forms.

I hope you get it sorted out soon!
