  1. Northeastern University, College of Professional Studies

    Name of investigator: Sindie Castro

Title of Project: U.S. Citizens’ Experience of Immigration Procedures

    Request to Participate in Research

My name is Sindie Castro and I am Northeastern University graduate student in Education working on a research study as a requirement to graduate from my doctorate program.

The purpose for this research is to answer the research question: How do US citizens who have petitioned for their spouse’s legal permanent resident (LPR) make sense of their experience of the process?

Participants must be 21 year or older and will be asked to participate in two one-on-one digital sound recording interviews lasting between 45 to 90 minutes via internet or face-to-face.

If you are interested in participating contact Sindie Castro at Castro.si@husky.neu.edu or Sara Ewell at S.Ewell@neu.edu

  2. Unless you are a very accomplished professional, ideally an attorney, you will not be able to successfully file an I-601 or I-212. You might as well throw in the towel right now and scan Mexico for the perfect place to live. There's a reason why attorney fees for a waiver specialist are thousands of dollars. You make one mistake, fail to really make your case as compelling as an attorney would do it during a murder trail before resting and wait for the jury's verdict, and it will be denied. You don't just need an attorney; you don't just need an immigration attorney; you'll need an immigration attorney who is specialized in waivers only. It's like you have a heart attack; you don't go to a quack, you don't go to a doctor, you'll need to see a cardiologist.

I don't think I would be able to pull this off myself, and realizing that I'm not smart enough to do that makes me smart.

    Thanks for the advice.

  3. My husband was told, after his interview, to wait for his DHL package. I am trying to speed things up by calling the 703 number, but was told that our case was not in the system; therefore, I was unable to set up a waiver appointment incase we need one. They told me to call back tomorrow to see if we are already in the system. Anyone else experiencing this? The immigration officer did not take my husband's passport. We are dying to know the results of his interview.

  4. 1. Did she add your last name when she got married? If she does not have one, then write "None"

    2. "None"

    3. "None"

    4. If it shows above, put "None"

Suggestions: Do not leave anything blank. Either N/A or NONE (everything capital letters).

My suggestions are based on my answers and mine was approved with no problem.

I have searched the forums for answers to these questions but I couldn't get the correct answer for a few specific ones. And I want to ask a couple of the same questions just to re-confirm.

Btw, I'm an An American-born citizen. My wife is from Indonesia.

    1. Her family does not have a "family name." So in the FAMILY NAME boxes, what should she put?

    2. What should both of us put in the FILE NUMBER boxes? Some have said to leave it blank or put "None".

    3. At the very bottom of the heavy line box, do we need to fill that out if we both do not have an alien registration number? or is that just for people with alien registration numbers?

I'm just a little nervous that a form may be filled out incorrectly. And that is why I am asking for myself these popular questions.

Pardon my asking  Thank you in advance.

  6. Greetings,

I met my current wife in April 2011 on a social network 3 months after ( July 2011) she came in Haiti and married me. She returned in the US and want to apply for CR-1 for me. We are about to send the full package of I-130 with all the required documentation, isn t our case complicated? IS USCIS or NVC or the Counsulate of will have me issued the visa? Please your advices will be really appreciated guys, thank you in advance.

Hello, USCIS will review your I-130. They will then send it to NVC. NVC will contact you for each step regarding applications and fees. after NVC approves all of your forms, they will schedule you an interview. I would suggest having your wife and yourself review every step and every form. The more you know, the better off you are. Good luck!

  7. Thanks everyone, we were just getting the forms together and we will be taking pictures and other stuff that show that our marriage is in good faith. We didn't think about that. We also re-read the interview letter and checked on the consulate website. We also called them and they gave us the same list as the website and stated that we can take anything else that we feel necesary.
