  1. Hey there-

My husband is Mexican and has permanent residency card (greencard) valid through 2025 in the US. We are employed with a missions agency and will be going back to Mexico for about 2 years to work in an orphanage.

    My question(s) is this :

What do we have to file for ? The I-131 re entry or the N-470 Or both ???

-the N-470 is for him to maintain status and for those 2 years out of country to count towards his years for citizenship. So we will apply for that - I get that.

*But does he also have to file for the I-131 re entry visa? Is there any way we can skip filing by coming back to US every 6 months?

**Can anyone (who has filed for these) let me know a time frame as far as the I-131 re entry visa! (we want to leave by March/ April and want to file both of these(if necessary) before leaving**

  2. Hey there-

My husband is Mexican and has permanent residency card (greencard) valid through 2025 in the US. We are employed with a missions agency and will be going back to Mexico for about 2 years to work in an orphanage.

    My question(s) is this :

If we want to leave and live in Mexico for 2 years does he have to file for the "reentry visa" (form i-131) ?

Is there another form he has to fill out?

Is there any way we can avoid this all together by coming back to US every 6 months or year (I read that when looking into the i-131)

Will being out of the country affect him when he applies for citizenship when we get back ? We have ties to the US (family, car, work, church etc...) so I don't think that they will be suspicious of "abandonment of country"

Any help or advice on what to file would be appreciated! visajourney helped us back in 2011 /2012 when we got married and now yall can help again :)

  3. So, it has been almost exactly 1 year since my husband came into the United States. So many forms, so many calls.

Still no greencard, but we DO have a stamp

They said that we had to fill out other forms so as to basically "remind" them to make the card.

-yall have already answered my question that he can still travel, no problem, with the stamp

my new question- Should one be able to start school (tech school/university...) with this stamp?? Has anyone had experience with this? Has anyone encountered any problems with this?

    THANKS SO MUCH

  4. Of course you should go. You can find out what is going on with your case and get an I-551 stamp in your passport. That stamp is just like a green card for proving status. Bring the letter that shows you were approved in Nov. I am not sure what the hold up is with printing your green card, but you were approved back in Nov. and need to get proof of your legal permanent resident status. Go get the proof you need while waiting and find out why they are making you wait.

Yeah, I guess I should not asked "SHOULD I go?" Of course we are going to go if necessary.

Do you happen to know WHY they would ask us for an appointment? Could this mean that something is wrong with my husbands status and papers. We have DONE everything right and have had no problems so far. My husband got the work visa and SSN and has been working now for about months.

  5. Hi there,

K1 visa granted/ husband has work visa and SSN#/interviews all done,

On Nov 20, we received the "Welcome to the United States" letter saying my husband was now registered as a legal resident and that they would mail the Green card in 3 weeks. On line and over the phone it said 60 days. It has now been about 75 days. We called and they then mailed us a paper that said that the Green Card has NOT BEEN PRODUCED AT THIS TIME! and to make an INFOPASS appointment to "receive temporary evidence of status while card is being processed."

Has anyone had this happen to them?

    What should we do?

What do they do at the appointment? Is it worth going? or should we just wait.

I would really appreciate any insight from those that have had this happen.

    Thanks so much

  6. Hi, and it's been a long time since I have begged for help from all yall!! :)

My fiance came from Mexico, we got married, and just now have all the final papers and things signed to send off the packet to get the green card-

I have searched and searched, and as some can sympathize,- the uscis website is so confusing!

we are filing the I-485 (adjustment of status) and the I-765 (employment authorization) together- and are NOT filing the permission to travel document.

My questions- for those of yall who know exactly what I'm talking about

--On the i-485 and all other papers-- what is the A# and what is the i-94# ?? yes, on the I-94 there are some numbers, -looks like this- 12345678 12

those are under something that says "numero de admision"- (admission number)

I see on the k 1 visa in his passport that he has a CONRTOL NUMBER ( a 14 digit number) and then he has a red number that starts with "C" and then 7 digits? then later on down the I-485 there is a question for his "nonimmigrant visa number" ?????

I also have a question about filing fee-

We are not submitting the approval for travel document.

so all we have is the I-485(application to adjust status)

    and I-765(Employment authorization)

I can send them both together, right, in the same big envelope to the same place???_ the USCIS Chicago,Il....

    The I-485 costs $985

    the I-765 costs $380

but if I file together does it still cost both separately??

    - I kept reading about a biometrics $85 fee- but then it said that fingerprints and such would be done AFTER approval.

SOOO I guess my question is will my check be a total of $985 for everything together

or $1365 ( for both forms)

or $1450 (for both plus the biometrics)

  7. ok i am the petitioner filling out the DS 260 form for my fiance in mexico 9 the beneficiary)

after i (the petitioner filing acting as if beneficiary) filled out many pages of info about the beneficiary there comes a question that says "petitioner information"- and gives a list of choices (mother/father/brother/spouse/employer/child/or self.)

I (the petitioner) am filling this out for my fiance the beneficiary. So, for this question, do i put "self"

This was just confusing because all this time i am answering questions only about my fiance.

a little guidance from SOMEONE WHO HAS FILLED THIS OUT BEFORE and with fiance/spouse FROM MEXICO! thanks so much yall

  8. lol. i know what happens next. what i meant was what papers does noa2 usaully ask for for the k1 fiance. ive talked to so many ppl and they each tell me different things so im just asking to have them really

Congratulations! I did not get a text ( but did with noa1) nor an email. I just received our approval in the mail the other day. We are on our way. And as of right now, I am still waiting on the letter from Juarez saying we can fill out our DS 260 form and schedule and interview date. After we get letter, we will out the DS 260, schedule interview, get all papers together (continued evidence of relationship etc, all original copies of approvals and such), and we wait for the interview ( and prepare) :)

  9. It feels like we have been waiting forever!! But after 132 days we have finally received our NOA2 approval notice! (I know there are SO many things to do now, and we are no where near over:) But I'm going to rejoice and enjoy this! THANK YOU SO MUCH, everyone, for helping us out as we filled out the papers and got ready for this journey. I'm so thankful!!!

  10. IT DOES NOT TAKE LONG AT ALL!!!! do not worry about this! my fiance needed to get one too. You can call or go and ask what documents are needed (birth certificate, CURP etc). He signed some papers, took a picture, went back ( i think) less than a week later, and got the passport. You have to pay (obviously), and you can choose whether you want it to be valid for ten, 5 or 3 years ( i think those were the choices)..

But yeah, it's not a big deal at all.

  11. Ill be in mexico too, to visit my fiance for the holidays!!!

and i feel your pain.. day ...103... i think since our noa1. my fiance asks me all the time how much longer it;s going to be. I have told him some of the stories/ timelines from couples on visajourney... some encouraging, some depressing.

we can only be patient- and go to mexico for the (warm) holidays!! have a beautiful, enjoyable, and safe trip!!!

  12. Hi.. day # 83 of waiting for NOA2....

and I really want to go visit fiance in MX, this December. Plane tickets are sooooo expensive (for me) and I was wondering if anyone had traveled to MX using the Greyhound Bus. I know it would take about 2 days, but it's also much much cheaper.

I know there are many good experiences out there with greyhound, and then some might say it's a death trap. But i would like to know if anyone has used Greyhound to go to MX and what were their experiences!!! PLEASE!!!

    Thanks, all.

  13. ok, I'm in US, fiance in Mexico.

I wanted to ask what phone plans or things other people are using to talk long distance for cheap. (and I know people could say just dont talk every day or dont talk a long time.) but I really really want to find some way were we can talk cheap.

    - i have skype, he doesnt have comp, and no real access to a comp on a daily basis (no real internet where he is either)

I have a "plan" but it's very expensive. I also tried through google "voice" and even though it's cheaper, it's still expensive. when he can, my fiance will call me. That is cheaper for us, but still pretty bad. I know landlines are cheaper... but we dont have one.

what are the best phone plan solutions???

  14. hi,

    i sent i-129f packet (Aug 14, 2011) got NOA1/ text message/mail- (Aug 17,2011).

    and now im waiting. ...

I was just wondering if there were things that I should start gathering right now. i know there is a lot of waiting left, and I do have time, but i just wanted to know

-should i start getting everything for the 1-134 (affidavit of support)- my parents are going to co-sponsor. should they start getting papers together?

-also, (my fiance is in mexico) - what is the packet 3 (that they send him, right?) actually going to have in it? it's the D-???? and some more D-???

.. i was thinking we could go ahead and be prepared and know what he was going to have to fill out.

-also, anyone with fiance in mexico- how long did process take?? ( from noa1-noa2-packet 3-interview-visa)...

-am i right that there are no vaccine requirements with mexico?

anyone with specific advice with packet 3 for mexico- would be appreciated!

yall have been awesome answering questions in the past, and ive been reading from here for months and months now.. please help me out if you can :)

  15. I feel your pain.. Im 21 and my fiance is 21. between us two right now we have about that much saved too. (we are also both in school and both have part time jobs). I know how difficult is it to want to be with your fiance while you wait, and be with them when you are filling out the papers. What we had to do is I kept going to Mexico (once in april, once in June) to see my fiance and we filled out papers together. now im back, and ive sent off the papers, and we are waiting... apart, and sad, and we miss eachother.. but that's life right now. we arlee "planning" to be together by, at least, May of next year. we really hope for sooner!!!

are yall both in school? i would say just be patient. itt, 's so hard, i know!! get the papers together, send out the k-1 petition, finish this school out (or whatever you're doing) SAVE some money, and she do the same.

when/if you do go to visit, make sure you sign papers together while youre there! (and the RIGHT ones. I went down to be with my fiance and came back having his signature on a stack of wrong papers, so he had to send me new ones by mail= delay of about 3 1/2 weeks. i felt like an moron!)

for her to come here to be with you and to do the paper work with you in the US she will need the tourist visa and everything... just more money for yall.

and yeah, obviously yall need a co sponsor, so do we (my fiance and I).that's not the end of the world.

i share your same pain.. im sure a lot of us do.

  16. LOVE IT!!!! so happy for you/yall! and kind of jealous... and wondering if I can do the same with my fiance in Mexico

Obviously we ALL (all k 1 visa people) want to be with our fiance's as soon as possible. I know I cant think of anything else. I sent the i-129f packet out a few weeks ago, i got the NOA1 saying they have received it.

could I send a request to expedite if my fiance wanted to come here and be able to enter school (university) by next year? would that be a viable reason or not?

  17. I'm really sorry this all happened. Just read all the advice everyone has given you, the sites people have put up to read exactly what to do when filing for the I-129F! I would do it yourself and not let anyone else do it. since you know what to send with the I-129f (G-325A, passport pics, letter of intent, evidence) you seem good to go and send the REAL thing. good luck. before anything, just refamilarize yourself with all the papers and their EXACT names.

  18. I would personally use separate attachment sheets and label each one at the top, like: G-325A Attachment: Applicant's Residence Last 5 Years and G-325A Attachment: Applicant's Employment Last 5 Years. Sign and date each sheet.

Your evidence for the petition is fine. You only need to prove you are free to marry and have met in person in the last 2 years prior to filing. Your boarding passes, passport stamps and bio page from passport (no need to copy the entire passport cover to cover unless you are using the passport to prove your citizenship in place of a birth certificate) and photos should be fine.

yeah, this is what I would do.. separate sheet for each.SIGN AND DATE EACH SEPARATELY

  19. yeah, if you're not married and you wanted to bring you fiance to you so that yall could get married in the States- thats I-129F. .. I-130 and I-129F basically have the same kind of imformation on it, but the petition is not the same. and the filing fee for fiance is $340, not $420.

    i would obviously -call

get the right paper filled out and make sure you sent all the other right things to go with the I-129F (g-325A ****make sure it's not the G-325, passport pics, letters of intent, evidence.. etc). did you already send all that too?
