  1. Thanks a bunch. My wife is already here in USA now.

    1. Two days for the medical stuff and I picked up the report on the third day, I think.

    2. No. They'll take care of it.

    3. It was somewhere in Salt Lake.

    4. VFS took an hour or two, I think.

Sorry for the late reply, I just saw your questions.

  2. Hello Sanchinky,

You have been very helpful to others, so thanks a lot. My wife case is similar to yours. She lives in Assam and her CR1 interview is already scheduled on Sept 9 in Mumbai. So the nearest places for medical and vfs are in Kolkata. Ideally, she should be able to fly to Kolkata and stay there for couple of days and further get her medicals from Apollo Gleneagles and submit it to VFS over there. My questions are

    1. Is it really 3 days for medical in Kolkata? Other approved hospitals in other cities seem to finish medicals in one day.

    2. Even though my wife is a doctor, however she does not have any vaccination card information in her possession. Would it amount to longer time?

    3. Does medical in Apollo GlenEagles take place in main hospital or at 58 Canal Circular Road (as described in Mumbai embassy site). Google map shows this address aways from the main hospital.

    4. How much time VFS Kolkatta can take? (Its important as she might have to take flight back in the after noon)

I have to make my wife's flight and hotel arrangements, so it would really help if you or any one else can answer?

    Thanks in advance.

    Sandeep

Here's my review of my medical examination at the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital in Calcutta near Salt Lake.

Hopefully this will help someone in the future.

I called the number listed on the Consulate's website after my interview appointment was set by NVC.

I was asked to bring my original passport, photocopy of my passport, the interview letter, 2 pictures and medical records.

I reached at 11 AM on 04/05. You have to go to the Main Hospital building. After the initial signing up, you have to pay 1450/- for the US visa medical charges. Then you have to get your bloodwork done, get a chest X-ray and your sputum tested. The tests didn't take longer than fifteen minutes but since it's an extremely busy hospital there was a lot of waiting around. So bring your iPod or a magazine to flip through. The food and coffee at the cafe is decent. I was out by 1PM.

I had to return again on the 9th morning for my physical. We had to wait around again while the doctor finished his rounds. The doctor will ask you about your medical history, check your height, weight, eyesight, reflexes, etc. and conduct a full physical examination. I lost my baby card (vaccination records) so I had taken a note from my pediatrician stating I had had all the required vaccinations. However, that was not good enough. So I had to take three vaccinations (DPT, MMR and Varicella even though I had chicken pox when I was ten) and the total cost was around 1700/- The rest of the vaccinations were marked as Not Age Appropriate and I was told that a titre test was unnecessary and expensive.

After the vaccinations were administered by a nurse, we had wait an hour or so before picking up my sealed medical reports and the X-ray plates.

Overall, it went off decently. The staff are pleasant and courteous. However, it is ridiculously busy. I spent most of my time waiting around which was annoying. It was nearly 3PM by the time I got out.

  3. Its never a good idea to preach for others on these serious matters. Also, the other side is, that you can be viewed as a over jealeous friend who can not see her getting married to a really wonderful guy. If she really does not like this guy then she can always cancel it herself, or via her family or via USCIS. USCIS or embassy won't consider any thing what you call or say what ever you believe.

well thing is there is no other guy in her life shes just focused on her career right now and not marriage and wants to find a guy from the us not anyone from india especially this guy she hates him hes not good for her. and she's afraid to send a letter because she doesnt want her family to find out so she is basically running out of options. and thats why i came on here to see if anyone had more advice on this and i really want to help her without getting her in trouble.
