My husband is eligible to RC on his GC September 14 of this year, can we send in the forms BEFORE the 90 days (I was thinking to send them in March) or does it HAVE to be within the 90 days (that would be June)? Thank you for any help!!

I was hoping someone could help us with getting my husbands degree validated here in the US. He is from Colombia and has a Bachelors in Sport Sciences and has half of a Masters degree in Nutrition. Has anyone here validated their foreign degree here in the US? can you suggest any websites? what was the process? was it expensive? Any tips and advice is very much appreciated! P.S. if it matters the state, we are living in Arizona.

I have been MIA since Federico has arrived in the US from Colombia. We are married. We had a little court house thing just to make it official, but we are having a big wedding in November with all the friends and family.We obviously would love his mom, dad, and two brothers to be here. what visa should we tell them to apply for, Colombia is kind of strict with giving tourist visas, is there a visa where they could just get it for like 2 or 3 weeks instead of going for the ten year tourist visas at first? any help or advice would be so appreciated! By the way we started his AOS in June. thanks again!

Primero que todo muchas gracias por tus palabras y por tus buenos deseos.

El papel que le entregan a uno dentro de la embajada con los documentos a presentar y el orden de entrega es el siguiente:

-Dos formas DS-156 y una forma DS-156K

-Registro civil de nacimiento

-2 Fotos marcadas por detrás con Nombres y Apellidos

-La forma de Affidavit of Support I-134 con las evidencias de sostenimiento económico (registros de impuestos del último año)

-Exámenes médicos

NOTA: Traté de recordar cada detalle de los documentos que piden pero la memoria me puede fallar, estoy casi seguro que eso es todo lo que aparece en el papel plastificado que le entregan a uno antes de pasar a la primera ventanilla, espero no equivocarme y les sea útil esta información

Not sure if that is true about not bringing your DS-230 because the latest instructions I have do say to bring DS 230 parts I and II for fiancee and any additional members that may also be coming.

Im saying to bring the DS230 form no matter what you read on this forum, I have read lots of reviews and known couples who brought it and the embassy didn't ask for it, so I'm saying it's safer to bring it, the embassy seems to change their minds about whether or not they want it. And on the little paper (the embassy gives you day of interview) with the order they want the papers the DS 230 is not listed, the lady at the first window asked for it. And they ended up keeping it.

Día de la entrevista: Antes de la entrevista estábamos muy nerviosos, tal vez más de lo necesario jeje, así que la noche anterior casi no dormimos, nuestra cita era a las 7:00 am así que llegamos temprano a la embajada, a las 5:45 am e inmediatamente nos formamos en la fila 3, esperamos hasta las 6:30 cuando una señora vino hacía nuestra fila, nos colocó un sticker verde y luego pasamos por la requisa de seguridad e ingresamos a las instalaciones, nos entregaron un papel con el orden de los documentos que ellos necesitaban y la mujer nos dijo que fuéramos a formarnos a las fila 29, así que antes de ir a la fila nos tomamos nuestro tiempo para ordenar los documentos y dejar sólo lo que ellos nos pedían en esas instrucciones...

(Esto es algo que nosotros pensamos es importante no sólo para ustedes sino también para todos los que asisten a la embajada, tómense su tiempo para colocar todo en orden y sigan las instrucciones de ese papel, hace que todo sea más rápido y sencillo, nosotros vimos que toda la gente al frente de nosotros y en otras filas no siguieron las instrucciones y les tomó mucho más tiempo que a nosotros, así que nuestro consejo es "Tómense su tiempo y sigan las instrucciones")

...Una vez que estuvimos en la primera ventanilla, la mujer nos pidió primero el papel con las intrucciones y luego nuestros documentos, me pidió que firmara las formas y siguió mirando nuestros documentos, nos devolvió el paquete 129 que mi prometida envió en los Estados Unidos y luego, de repente, esa mujer miró en la pantalla del computador y como ya había posteado mi prometida, nos pidió por la forma DS-230, nunca estuvimos seguros si íbamos a necesitar esa forma pero al final fue muy bueno que la teníamos lista. Sólo nos demoramos como 7 minutos en esa ventanilla, muy fácil y corto comparado con otras personas que no organizaron sus cosas. Después de eso la mujer nos dijo que teníamos que esperar en las sillas detrás de la cafetería y esperar hasta que nos llamaran, así que nos sentamos y esperamos más o menos 40 minutos, me llamaron y caminamos hacia la ventanilla 3 tomados de las manos, muy nerviosos y allí estaba esta mujer peliroja y más o menos joven, levanté el teléfono y le dije buenos días en español y ella me contestó también en español (en realidad toda la entrevista fue en español, algo que no nos esperábamos) después me preguntó si yo corroboraba que todo lo que habíamos escrito en la documentación y que si todo lo que iba a decir en la entrevista era 100% verdad, obviamente respondí que si, luego me pasó las formas para firmarlas y comenzó a hacerme unas preguntas:

-¿Cuándo nos conocimos?

-¿Cuándo nos conocimos en persona?

-¿Cuándo decidimos casarnos?

-¿A qué se dedica su prometida?

-¿Dónde vive ella?¿Vive con la familia?

-¿Dónde va a vivir usted en los Estados Unidos?

-¿Tiene usted intenciones de trabajar en los Estados Unidos?

-¿A qué se dedica usted?

Después de estas preguntas me pidió que me tomará las huellas digitales y luego me hizo dos preguntas:

-¿Su prometida habla español o usted habla inglés?

-¿Usted dónde aprendió a hablar inglés?

Después de esto pensé que ella me iba a empezar a hablar en inglés pero para mi sorpresa ella sólo dijo: "Su visa ha sido aprobada, bienvenido a los Estados Unidos", miré a mi prometida con lágrimas en los ojos y una sonrisa gigante, cuando mi prometida me vio, inmediatamente supo que habíamos aprobado, la cónsul me dio las instrucciones para la entrega de la visa y nos devolvió la I-134 de Sostenimiento Económico y todas las pruebas que lo acompañaban, y eso fue todo. Toda la entrevista sólo tardó como 5 minutos, todo en español y la cónsul ni siquiera le preguntó nada a mi prometida, caminamos afuera de la embajada a las 8:45 am en lo que fue el momento más feliz de nuestras vidas, pensando que todo había sido mucho más fácil de lo esperado y que no debimos habernos puesto tan nerviosos, pero creemos que esos nervios es imposible no sentirlos.

Interview day: Previous to the interview we were really nervous, probably more than necessary

haha, so the night before didn't sleep good at all, our appointment was at 7:00 am so we arrived early to the embassy at 5:45am and immediately got in line 3, we waited there until 6:30 when a lady came out, she put a green sticker on both of us, we then passed trough the security and went into the facilities, we recieved a paper with the order of the documents they needed to see and the lady told us to go to line 29, so before going to that line we took our time to order our documents and leave just what they ask for...

(This is something we think is important not only for you but also for everybody, just take your time to put everything in order and just follow the instructions of that paper, it makes everything faster and smoother, we saw that all the people in front of us and in other lines didn't follow the instructions and it took way longer than it took for us, so our advice is "Take your time and follow the instructions")

...once in the first window, the lady asked first for the paper with the instructions and then for our documents, she asked me to sign the forms and keep looking at our documents, she gave us back the 129 package that my fiancee sent in the States, and then, suddenly, that lady looked at her computer screen and as my fiancée posted before, she asked us for the DS-230 form, we were never sure if we will need that form but at the end was a very good thing we had it. It only took us like 7 minutes in that window, so easy and short comparing with other people who didn't organize their things. After that the lady told us we had to wait in the chairs behind the cafeteria and wait there until they call us, so we went there and waited for 40 minutes more or less, suddenly they called me, we walked to window 3 holding our hands, very nervous and there was this red head kind of young lady, I picked up the phone and said good morning in spanish, she answered me in spanish too (actually the whole intervie was in spanish, something I wasn't expecting), after that she asked me if certified that everything we had putted down in our papers and everything I was about to say in the interview was 100% true, of course I said yes, then she passed me the forms to sign them and started asking me some questions:

-When did you meet your fiance?

-When did you see your fiance in person for the first time?

-When did you two decided to marry?

-What does your fiance do for living?

-Where does she live?¿Does she live with her family?

-Where are you gonna live in the States?

-Do you have intentions to work in the States?

-What do you do for living?

After those questions she asked me to take the fingerprints and after that she asked me two more questions:

-Does your fiance speak spanish or do you speak english?

-Where did you learn english?

After that I thought she was about to start speaking to me in english but for my surprise she just said: "Your visa has been approved, welcome to the United States", I looked at my fiance with tears in my eyes and a huge smile, when my fiancee saw my face she knew it, we were approved, the consul lady gave me the instructions for the delivering of the visa and gave us back the Affidavit of Support I-134 form and all the economic proofs, something and that was it. The whole interview just took like 5 minutes, everything in spanish and the consul lady didn't ask anything to my fiancée, we walked out of the embassy at 8:45 am in the happiest moment ever, thinking that it was so much easier than we expected and that we shouldn't be as nervous as we were, but we think those nervous are impossible not to feel them.

You may have read on the reviews that the Embassy no longer asks for the the DS230 form, but I just wanted to put it out there that they did ask for my fiance's and kept it, when the Embassy sends you a letter after they received your case they say to fill it out, even though we thought they didn't ask for it, we did anyways. At the Embassy they give you a paper which tells you the order to put your papers in, they don't have the DS230 form on there but, for some reason, the lady at the first window asked for it, thank goodness we had it! And at the end they kept it. Hope that helps, it seems they change their mind about that form often, just be prepared with it.

I had heard the Visa delivery takes 2 or 3 days in Bogota. That is no longer the case and they tell you 2 weeks but according to DHL personnel it takes 7 to 10 days. I was so happy when I logged in to the Via website and saw Visa in transit... but also sad because the odds ere i n favor of the visa reaching the DHL next week and Monday is a holiday in Bogota. I would have to leave today to be back at work on Monday and return next weekend for Andrea... but at noon the visa was delivered!!!! We bought the ticket today and we are leaving together tonight!!!!!

February 16th 2011, I flew to the UK to stay with Antonio until March 9th 2011 (See REF2)

We decided to extend my stay and my return flight was altered to March 29th 2011 (See REF3)

June 14th 2011, Antonio flew to Los Angeles, CA to stay with me until June 21st before leaving to tour. (See REF4)

June 29th 2011, I travelled to Las Vegas, NV to meet Antonio on the tour for two days. (See REF5)

August 16th 2011, Antonio stayed with me at the end of the tour before returning to the UK on August 19th 2011. (See REF4)

October 6th 2011, Antonio flew to Los Angeles, CA to stay with me for 90 days, returning to the UK on January 3rd 2012. (See REF6)

January 23rd 2012, Antonio flew to Los Angeles, CA to stay with me for 4 days before leaving to tour. (See REF7)

February 18th 2012, Antonio stayed with me for 11 days at the end of the tour before returning to the UK on February 29th, 2012. (See REF7)

Ours was short and sweet, I put something like, "we meet through his cousin who lives in AZ in May 2010, we began a wonderful Friendship, and In Jan. 2011 I traveled to Colombia we realized we began to have feelings and a beautiful relationship blossomed." that's all, we were approved with no RFE. I think they are more interested in the proof of you meeting.

Today our visa was approved!! We are so happy and it was such a beautiful day in Bogota!! Thank you everyone for all the help, tips and advice! We appreciate it so much , and we are here to return the help!

Yes, co-sponsor does the same for 11, like it is on the example form here. If the income is more than enough by itself, then you do not need to list ANY assets there, including the real estate. Leave it all blank. The income is all that matters, and having enough income means no reason to need to fall back on assets to make up for falling short of the income requirement. Any assets listed need proof provided with them, such as ownership, appraisal value, mortgage/lien info to know how much you still owe on it, etc. Since your co-sponsor has enough income, why bother with all of that?

Hello my beautiful VJ fam!

I really need some help from keeping my hair from going gray...haha. So my stress worry is that haunting question 11 on the I-134 form.... I have read so many answers to the question I don't know what the right or accepted one is anymore, do I just need to follow the example given on this forum or do I select "intend" and state that I intend to provide whatever is necessary to ensure the beneficiary does not become a burden to the public". Or do I selected intend and then write (n/a ki visa for permanent resident) these are all things I have read and I have read it all depends on the embassy they all accept different answers and that this question does not apply to the K-1... And whatever I put does my co-sponsor have to put the same thing? Anyone from Colombia recently have their K-1 interview with an answer to this? Thank you very very much for any help! I really appreciate it all!!

Hola a tod@s en el foro, l@s he venido siguiendo hace algún tiempo pero todavía no había escrito nada, tienen un grupo muy agradable y sus comentarios y entradas son de mucha ayuda. Hoy les escribo porque tengo una pregunta que nos sigue dando vueltas a mi futura esposita y a mí. Pues primero que todo ya estamos a unos días de nuestra cita en la embajada, Marzo 15 para ser más exactos y como uds bien sabrán estamos ultimando los detalles de los documentos que necesitamos tener listos, prácticamente ya tenemos todo. Sin embargo hay una forma en la que todavía tenemos algunas dudas, es la forma I-134, por cierto, ella es estudiante y trabaja medio tiempo y no gana lo suficiente para ser mi sponsor, afortunadamente mi suegrita nos va a ayudar siendo co-sponsor; así que aquí van las preguntas:

-En la pregunta 11. de la forma I-134 ¿qué debe contestar mi esposita y qué debe contestar mi suegrita? Intend or Not Intend? (Hemos leído mucho en otros foros y hay muchas opiniones encontradas, la mayoría dicen que esta pregunta no aplica para visa K1 pero otros dicen que sí, quisiera saber si algun@ de uds que ya han pasado por el proceso tuvieron experiencias similares y qué contestaron?)

-En las instrucciones para completar la forma I-134 dice que hay que presentar declaraciones del banco donde conste la fecha de apertura de la cuenta, la cantidad de dinero depositada el año pasado y el balance actual. Sin embargo hemos leído en VJ que esto sólo aplica para los sponsor que no tienen fondos suficientes, es esto cierto? de ser así sólo mi esposita necesitaría estas declaraciones del banco? o mi suegrita también tiene que tener estas declaraciones, a pesar que ella si cubre más de lo requerido en las poverty guidelines?

I am hoping you can help! Ok so in the instructions for the I-134 it says that you need a statement from your bank saying when you opened the account, the number of deposits in that year, and the totally amount that is in your account...so here is where I am confused, I have read that if you make OVER the 125% poverty guidelines you do not need to provide this information, is this true? I do not make over the 125% poverty guidelines- I do not even make over the 100% poverty guidelines, My sponsor on the other hand, makes well over the 125% poverty guidelines so because I do not do I need to provide this information? Does my sponsor need to provide this information? Do we both?...maybe do do it just in case? Thank you for any advice!

Hey guys!! We thought the same thing and I don't think it is required infact im almost positive its not, but we also have it just in case ONLY because the letter from the embassy says to fill it out. I guess it doesn't hurt. Oh and I also read somewhere that they will still except it if it's expired, but I guess I will have Federico print out the newest version with the new date after March 1st just to make sure. Hope that helps!
