  1. Hi, my husband and I just received his visa in the mail today and we have flights back to the States tomorrow. Can anyone tell me about you POE in Dublin and roughly how long it takes. Also I would like to thank everyone for the help and advice that you have given us over these past 8 months. It has been a long wait and we are excited to finally start our lives together in America :-)

  2. As the spouse, you will be responsible for the medical bills. Your parents would not be responsible for the medical bills unless Medicaid was used to pay the medical bills.

If your spouse was to receive regular Medicaid (may be called something different in your state), the US government can seek reimbursement from your parents. They would be liable for all expenses paid by Medicaid.

Does your parents realize that they will still be on the hook if you divorce.

Read the instructions for Form I-864. The instructions list when the sponsor's obligations ends. Your parents could be on the hook for the rest of their lives for your husband.

yes they realize that. They aren't worried about that at all. We are planning to put him on my insurance when he gets his green card. I was reading that the government cannot sue you for any medical bills if you go to a private hospital. I suppose thats true since the government doesnt own private hospitals. That is the only thing my parents are worried about, just incase, god forbid, something bad happens or an accident that they wouldnt be held accountable for any big medical bills. they are fine with everything else.

  3. Hi, my mom and step dad are thinking of being joint sponsors for my husband. They are willing to do it, but concerned about their obligations. We have read through all the paperwork and everything, but its not very clear as to weather or not they would be responsible for any medical bills if for some reason we werent able to pay them? I know the USCIS website said they would be responisble for paying back any money taken from the government (food stamps, social sec benifits etc..) But it didnt say anything about medical bills. If something should happen where my husband needed to be admitted into the hospital and we couldnt pay the deductable from our insurance, would they have to pay it? Thanks for your help

  4. Thanks for all the info guys...I guess i should wait, I was just wondering if I changed my name at the Social Security Office and DMV but didnt change it on my passport if that would be okay or if I HAVE to change it on my passport right away. I know it sounds stupid to not want to wait, but I want to have the same last name as my daughter most importantly is why.

  5. Okay so I haven't changed my last name yet since we have been married (Its only been 4 months). I was going to go tomorrow to the Social Security Office to change it but then I realized, my flight to and from Ireland have my maiden name, my passport has my maiden name, and our cruise trip is booked under my maiden name. So If I were to change my name tomorrow should I change it on my passport or just leave it for the time being so that it matches my airline tickets and cruise tickets? Thanks

  6. assuming that you are not considered a dependent on your mom's return:

    - You fill I-864

    - If your mom is head of household then she fills I-864 and her husband I-864A or the other way around if he is head of household.

If your mom and her husband have no other dependents and they are sponsoring your SO then they have to meet poverty guidelines for 3 people, themselves and the beneficiary.

Thanks for the info! I appreciate it :-)

  7. Hi. So I have looked at the poverty guidelines and I just make enough to support myself, husband, and daughter. Also I just began my job 2 weeks ago and I dont have a tax return or tax reciepts rather from the past 2 years because I was traveling. I can show proof of income from 2 weeks ago up until the time they send me the form but Im guessing thats not enough. So just to be on the safe side, I have decided to use my mom as a joint sponsor. My question is, I know we both have to fill out an AOS form, but she will be using hers and her husbands joint income, so does he need to fill out a form too or she just adds him on hers? Also does this mean we need to meet the poverty guidelines for 5 people rather than 3? Thanks for your help!

  8. Our NOA2 arrived!! so so excited but now I am feeling overwhelmed because of all the things I have heard about the NVC. Does anyone have any advice on what I need to do right away or what I need to get sorted before I even recieve the NVC case number. Im still a little confused about the whole process even after reading all the guidelines and everything. Basically is there anything I need to know that will make the process go any faster or where we dont have any delays or hold ups because Im really missing my husband and me and our baby girl cannot wait until he arrives! Thanks for any info you can give me

  9. Welcome

If he comes on the VWP don't stretch it to 90 days. I always go 87 or 88 days incase of canceled flight from

Bad weather. You don't want to run over not worth the risk.

Thanks for that! We will be back here September 15th and were planning on leaving to go to Ireland to visit his family around the 1st of December for Christmas, how many times can he visit while the process is ongoing?

  10. Thanks. Really? Why so long? I have seen lots of people get theres between 5 and 8 months, but i couldnt find anyone that was Irish. I cancelled the food stamps already because I dont NEED them but it was nice to have them with him being so far away (he is currently working in Australia). Why did your's take such a short time?

Also I heard that if you have children together, you jump to the front of the list, is that true? I am going to Ireland at the end of August and hes meeting me and our daughter there, then we are coming back here, and if we haven't recieved his visa, he was going to stay as long as he could on tourist visa which is 3 months or 90 days. Thats why we have saved up so much money from his current job, incase he wouldnt be able to work. I just started work as a nanny so I should actually be making enough to show I can support him. Sorry Im asking so many questions, its all pretty new to me

  11. Hi there!

You are looking at about 9-12 months from submission to interview. With luck, he may be in the US by Christmas but I wouldn't make definite plans- he can visit on the visa waiver program during the processing though.

You being on food stamps is ok, as you are the US citizen, but how will you fulfill the affidavit of support? If you have a co-sponsor you'll be ok.

  12. Hi, my husband is an Irish Citizen and I am a US citizen. We filed for Cr-1 visa and got the NOA 1 in the mail 04/13/11 and still waiting on the NOA 2. Does anyone know the wait time for Ireland? Also we have a four month old daughter together, and I am recieving food stamps. should I cancel them or will that affect his visa? Thanks
