  1. I'm not sure how it works in countries other than the US, but I know here I legally changed my daughter's last name by going to the court house. They had me declare my intent to change her name in a public forum for 30 days (I chose an ad in the newspaper), and when no one challenged the name change, they changed her birth certificate to my last name.

It's tough, and I feel your pain, since my fiance would like to eventually adopt my daughter, but we're not sure what kind of challenges we'll face (not to mention, she doesn't have a passport and I cannot apply for one for her without the consent of her "father").

    Best of luck to you.

  2. Hello!

My fiancé and I filed our 1-129 F in the end of May when he was here in the U.S. for a visit (now waiting on our NOA2, yay!). I sent him a copy of the entire packet, but also included bank statements, tax returns, and other asset information as evidence of support.

In case that wasn’t enough, I also completed an I-134 and included all the documents required. My question is, should I have pre-filed this myself, or is this something that my fiancé can file/provide during his interview on my behalf?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. I just wanted to say hi, and thank you! As a long-time lurker of these forums, I’ve found this site and everyone’s stories so helpful. It’s a tough thing being in love with someone who lives so far away, and when adding paperwork, bureaucracy, and lengthy waits to the mix, it becomes a very stressful process!

Even after countless hours of meticulous internet searching, my fiancé Paul and I are still uncertain of how exactly this process will unfold.

We received our NOA1 a month ago, and are anxiously (and probably prematurely) checking the UCIS daily, hoping for any kind of update.

Has anyone here gone through this recently with a fiancé from the UK? Do you have any insight to offer (i.e.; When is the interview scheduled? Is it okay to fill out and send in the appropriate paperwork before hand? How long will it be from NOA2 until a visa is approved?)

    Thanks again!

    -Julie & Paul
