Shikha and Howard

I am a U.S. citizen today! After the ceremony, they had three booths to update my social security card, register to vote, and apply for a passport! I took care of all three and then went for a frozen yogurt with my in-laws.

I received my (rescheduled) oath ceremony letter in the mail today! My ceremony is on 10/17/2014. Crossing fingers they won't deschedule again due to unforeseen circumstances. Updated below.

Well, the USCIS website says they mailed another oath letter on 10/1/2014, but I haven't received it yet. Hopefully it will come tomorrow so I can update the day of my oath ceremony. I'm guessing they descheduled my oath ceremony previously due to overbooking, sickness, vacation, etc. Life happens!

We received a letter in the mail saying they had to deschedule the Oath Ceremony on 10/3/2014. I'm hoping if they reschedule it's on another Friday. Strangely, we got the letter for the Oath Ceremony (N-445) yesterday and the cancellation letter today. I'm hoping it's because there are too many people booked for the ceremony. Updated to remove the Oath ceremony date for me.

I did include two passport size photographs, but I can't edit my post. I read through the instructions for N-400 a few times. I almost missed the part about writing the name and A-number on the back of each photograph though.

I believe this entire thread is for people to convert their two year green card to a ten year green card (and other threads like this). You can enter the U.S. and receive a ten year green card if you have been married for two years at the time you apply for the visa. I haven't looked at the N-400 form in a while, but I believe Shikha can apply for citizenship next year. We'll do some more research into that next year (and probably post questions here if we have any).

Once again, for someone like us where Shikha applied for entry after being married less than two years, once entering the U.S. you are issued a two year green card. Hope this helps.

I'm a little confused, even after reading your timeline - is this a 2-year green card, or renewing from a 2-year to a 10-year, or a 10-year straight out of the gate due to how long you've been married? Ours was a fiancée visa, which has different requirements, and I think the timeline for naturalization also varies greatly depending on circumstances.

We went to Las Vegas with the in-laws for the weekend and we received the green card while we were gone. We're going with 9/14/2013 for the date we received the green card. We will file for citizenship as soon as possible now!

Green card production ordered on 9/9/2013 according to the USCIS website. I had registered on there so they sent me an e-mail as well. It doesn't look like this is a "status" so I didn't update the main table in this thread. I will respond once the green card arrives.

Approved! We received the letter today on 9/3/2013 and my wife Shikha was approved on 8/28/2013. Now we wait for the new green card!

Hello everyone! I just wanted to thank everyone who maintains this forum as it provided extremely valuable information to assist my U.S. Citizen husband with the Direct Consular Filing in New Delhi, India. I met my husband while working as an apartment manager in Bangalore, India. His company paid taxes after he worked in India for six months which allowed us to file for a DCF at the embassy in New Delhi, India. If we could go back in time, we would have changed the following:

Apply for a Police Clearance Certificate in Bangalore using the next appointment scheme (book immediately the next day)

My passport was issued in March 2011 so I was able to get my PCC from the Regional Passport Office in Bangalore. I originally booked an appointment at the PCC office in Bangalore for June 15th. However, sometime in April or May they allowed people to apply for appointments the next day (but you have to cancel your current appointment first if you have one). At first, we were scared to cancel our appointment as I booked my PCC appointment in April for June. But we decided to take a chance and we got through on the first attempt. I would recommend extremely fast high speed internet to attempt changing your appointment online for the next day.

Here is a brief summary of our journey so far. Please don't hesitate to ask us any questions as we are extremely grateful for all of the inputs on this board. We didn't want to post or register on here until after my point of entry. It was in Phoenix, AZ, but I didn't see a drop down for my city when I registered on this website. I hope my social security card comes in the mail soon followed by my green card.

April 11th, 2011 I-130 DCF in New Delhi, requested case stay in New Delhi as my relatives are there (lady wanted to forward to Mumbai), could not file earlier as I didn't have proper address proof for the marriage certificate and also we registered under the special marriage act since he's from the U.S.

April 21st, 2011 Packet 3 mailed by the U.S. Embassy

April 28th, 2011 Packet 3 received (small typos in the address)

May 2nd, 2011 Turned in Packet 3 at the visa consulate section of the New Delhi embassy, no token needed as my husband escorted me

May 6th, 2011 Packet 4 received (mailman realized how to deal with typos)

May 16th, 2011 Medical, the appointment wasn't booked by the embassy, I needed to book the appointment herself

June 1st, 2011 Visa Interview, success, but need PCC to get visa
