Hi! My wife will be taking interview at Delhi, India. Can somebody please let me know what are the documents required from my wife (beneficiary) by NVC, in terms of civil documents and mark if original is required or a photocopy is good enough.
Thanks,
Tapas

I have posted basically this same question in the NVC forum, however this section gets more traffic and I hoped others could share with me the experience they have had.
My case was expedited at the USCIS level. It was then forwarded to the NVC on 13 Jan and received on 18 Jan, that same day I emailed (and called) my supporting documents and requested that my case be expedited. On 19 Jan I called again, they said the expedite was approved by the Embassy in Seoul and that my case will be forwarded to the Embassy.
I called today to see if it has been sent, answer was it has not, but it will be sent "shortly". She said once the Embassy gets the package they will contact us. All paperwork (I-864, DS-230 and so on, I have not sent the NVC anything) and payments will be collected by the Embassy either before the interview or on the day of the interview.
Has anyone had an experience like this?
What is the lag time (typically) between the approval of the expedite, and when the NVC sends the package off?
What is the lag time (typically) between the Embassy getting the package and then contacting us?
Is it typical that EVERYTHING would be collected the day of the interview (if so how do the review it) or prior to the interview?
If anyone has anything additional to share about something like this I would love to hear about it....
Thanks
On what basis were you able to expedite your case? My wife came on Finacee visa K-1, we got married, then she had to leave US w/o AOS/Ad Parole.
I am filing foir IR1 petition. How can I get it expeditied?

All's Well That Ends Well
(K1 VISA EXPERIENCE US CONSULATE ,MUMBAI)
I will try my level best to share my experience with everyone!!!!
My Interview was on the 18th October 2011.
Reached the VFS lounge at 6.45 am. I was given a locker to deposit my baggage because you are not allowed to take anything inside the consulate except for your documents.I was made to sit in the vfs lounge which was amazing. They offer you Tea or Coffee. The Bus arrived at 7am. We reached the consulate in just 3-4 mins.
People who arrive via vfs services are given first preference to enter the embassy. The best part is that I live in Mumbai but I still took the vfs service because I didn’t wish to stand for long hours waiting for my turn. I went through a security check and finger prints.(7.30 am)
I sat for around 15 mins and then I my name was called at 7.45 am. There was this Indian lady sitting there. She gave me my original birth certificate back and took my DD and passport. She asked me a few questions like:-
Who is calling you?
What does he do?
How did you guys meet?
Have you ever travelled abroad?
Now I was waiting for name to be called for the final interview.Sharp at 11am my name was called .I was called at counter number 8. There were 2 ladies waiting for me .One was an American and the other one was an Indian. She asked me to take an Oath and then made me sign on the form. Then she triggered me with questions.
When did you get engaged?
Describe your engagement ceremony in detail right from the beginning?
Why did you have so many guests for your engagement ceremony?
Show me your engagement ceremony pictures?
Why are you applying mehendi for your ring ceremony?
I explained the officer that an Indian girl can apply mehendi on any auspicious occasion and then this being my engagement ceremony I had too.
TIP :-PLEASE DO NOT GET SCARED WHEN THE OFFICER BLAMES YOU FOR SOMETHING WHICH IS WRONG ACCORDING TO THEM .EXPLAIN THEM EVERYTHING IN A VERY POLITE WAY.
6.Why is everybody wearing such bright clothes?
7.Why are you not getting married in India?
8.What are your wedding plans? Give details ?
9)Where does your Fiance stay ?
10.Have your ever travelled abroad?
11.Will your parents attend your wedding in the states?
12.Explain the difference between ring ceremony and Wedding ceremony in your customs?
Note:- This one was not easy. I explained everything to the American lady starting from Mangal sutra to sundur,to the 7 phera’s Huh!!! She was basically trying to gain some knowledge from me to understand Indian customs which would help her in future for interviewing!! I knew it all so I was confident enough to share my knowledge with her. Remember one thing the officers are not there to make your life hell. They are just doing their job. So relax.
She then started looking at the I-129 PACKET which my fiancé sent when he filed for the K1 petition. She was very impressed with the packet. It looked neat and tidy . I must say my fiancé gave his heart out while preparing the packet. It included our phone call records, Email records,Airline payment records, our engagement card,Facebook profile page screen short where it clearly said “engaged”, Letter of intent from both of us ,pictures, letter that I sent to my fiancé (scanned copy). She saw the packet for 2-3 mins .She again started typing something on the computer.
She spoke to the Indian officer and then told me “YOUR VISA WILL BE COURIERED TO YOU WITHIN 2-3 WORKING DAYS” I said thank you so much with a big smile !!!!!!
My interview lasted for 10-15 mins .As soon as I came out of the embassy ,I gave a call to my fiancé from an ISD booth .I am on cloud 9,10,11 god knows where !!!!!
Thank you my lord, You have been with us always and please be with us forever. Without you nothing is possible.OM SAI RAM
I shall provide you with few tips which can make your visa journey easier at the US embassy ,Mumbai.
Females please avoid applying mehendi(very important).
Please do not wear garlands during your ring ceremony.
Please take a picture while exchanging rings.
Take as many pictures you can. This should include pictures with parents ,friends etc.
When preparing for your I-134 FORM make sure you have all the financial docs ready and up to date as mentioned in the form. You can’t afford to miss anything or else they might put your case on hold till you submit all of them.
Ask your fiancé to practice questions which can be asked for the interview. Confidence plays a very important role while giving an interview. You will be confident if you have all the docs ready and all other supplementary proof.
A day before ask your fiancé to take a mock interview. Trust me this works wonders.
It is a very painful, frustrating, tiring process but All’s well that ends well.
I am gona be with my Fiance soon,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I am coming!!
Great tiops...God bless you....Quick question what was the visa fees in Indain Rupees?
Thanks

My fiancee went through the same thing at the New Delhi embassy for the K1 visa, but got the visa after she submitted the documents, she was issued a white 221g that submit more documents, I believe they asked for seven items on the paper. You must have affidavits from your fiancees family in India stating the engagement took place and that they approve of her relationship with you, also that they have no objections that your fiancee will marry you in the US and not in India. Your parents here in the US must write a letter and get it notarized, the letter must state that your parents agree with your relationship and acknowledge that you were engaged. You need a fiance letter of intent for yourself and foreign fiancee which states you will marry each other within 90 days of entering the United States, you need voters list for the last 5 years and voter Id card, you need engagement photo album, phone records, emails, any mail you sent one another. I know for a fact that the new Delhi embassy gives a huge problem to K1 filers if they did not have a proper engagement ceremony in India. You will definitely need a guest list with names and phone numbers. If you did not have a ceremony then both you and your foreign fiancee need to explain that in writing and get it notarized. Also you need a letter that explains how you met and why you decided to get engaged, your foreign fiancee will need to do the same, and it has to be notarized, for the letter write as much detail as you can and express your feelings for one another, I did all this and my fiancees visa was pproved 3 days after we submitted all the information. Also do you have the State department phone number here in America, because after you submit all this you can call that number give them your case number abd they can tell you if the visa was issued.
Hey, can you send me the format of notorization of not having enagagement ceremony.
Thanks,

At the Mumbai Consulate interview we were asked a lot of questions and we were told that they didnt believe us. My Fiancee lived with me in India for 12 months, we have 100's of photos, emails and hours and hours of phone conversations since she had to return home waiting on the K1 visa process. We have been together for 2 years now. In the interview we were asked to supply wedding invitiations, guest list for the upcoming wedding, and wedding plans with paid receipts. We supplied all these documents asked for but now we are under Administrative Process review. Is there anyone out there going through or has gone through this. We are trying to figure out how long it will take for them to review the documents and get back to us. This has been the hardest time being seperated from each other with no idea what they have planned for us. Any support would be greatly appreciated.
Is your fiancee older than you? then that is not the norm in Indian custom! CO are skeptical about this!

If u don't mind what religion do u belong to? I have seen a pattern with Mumbai consulate..it is unfortunate, but that is the fact.

Please help me.My fiancee filled the petition for k1 Visa. She earned $ 18,500 last year and now she lost her job. I am worried that because how can she sponsor me now. She also have a cosponsor but she is not u.s citizen she is on Permanent residency and she made$ 9000 last year. What should we do now ? Please help me
Affidavit of Support is taken very seriously by CO. To be on the safe side, your co sponsor should be making away above poverty line!
He or she should be making at least $40,000/yr to be a co sponsor, provided your co sponsor is SINGLE.

My finacee in the Philippines will have trouble getting time off for the medical/interview.
I told her if it comes down to it, she must quit her job. I also told her a steady job looks better for us. My question is, is there any impact if the beneficiary is unemployed, maybe there is but I have told her that she can tell the interviewer that she had to quit because she can't get time off.
NO..it doesn't matter even if she didn't work her entire life, it still does not matter!
She is migrating to US b'coz of ONLY one reason, she wants to marry and stay with you!
Everything else is irrelevant!

Hi,
Just wondering if my parents can come and stay for 2 months at a time every year on GC when once my sponsor for I-131 goes through all aproved and they visit us here in USA?
My father was saying that he heard that someone cancelled GC and got Visitor Visa for 10 years as it has no restrictions on the mimium period of stay in USA when visisting.
True that it prolongs or hinders the US citizenship but thats not a big issue or problem with them and us.
Do let me know. Thanks,
NO...you cannot live out of the country for more than 180 days!! period!

I am from India and my fiancee is u.s citizen.we got engeged and applied for fianee visa.
IIi heared on vj that we need to fill I-134 as affidavit of support but on the newdelhi u.s embassy website its I-864.
What should I do now please help me. I will really appriciate for this.
What is your source of information that I-864 is required ??
-
CO = consulate officer, the person who interviews you
VFS = the service that the Indian embassies use to collect and process data. That's who will issue and collect your packets 3 and 4.
221g = form that tells you why your visa is pending and what additional information they need. This site explains it more and has sample letters.
http://www.***removed***....as/221grefusal/
AP = Administrative Processing also sometimes called Administrative Review. Sometimes the terms are interchangeable, sometimes they mean the same thing. It's a black hole of nothingness with no answers and no timelines. For my case, it probably means we are just in an additional background check because Dipu is Muslim but we'll never get the embassy or Dept of State to admit that.
You should definitely spend some time reading the embassy reviews for India and looking up 221g and AP so you have an idea of what you can expect worst case scenario. This research will also provide you with items that you should include in your evidence as you will know where others ran into trouble.
Becky,
I think CO= Consular Officer

thanks a lot.... I would like to know one more thing...If i am approved for F1 visa and later If I don't wish to study.. can I live in US with F1.
NO
You are NOT reading what others are saying...F1 is for studying...if your intention is NOT to study...F1 will get not be valid!
-
Thank you all for all your Good advise, i know relationships are harder and i am willing to work harde too. Thanks alot
Technically it might be possible to get an interview date...but will be looked upon as a negative point by INS...what will you say we broke up!
Your visa will be rejected anyway!!
Good Luck with that!

Yes.
You mean to say I have to sent DS 156 Form in order to get an interview date/packet #4?
-
Did anybody receive Packet # 3 from US Emabssy Mumbai, India. Can you please share the contents.
In the website, when I checked packet#3 for K-1 visa, I got confused - the application statement(Checklist) is asking for DS 156 Form - is that necessary?
-
All papers were bound in flexible plastic folders. Please note "FLEXIBLE". Imagine a glass between you and the interviewer. The bottom of the glass touches the table, so it's a flat surface." In the middle of that table divider, there is a foot long slot where the papers would go through. It slopes 2-3 inches down, and 2 inches inside and out, except upwards.
Only papers and flexible plastics would go through. The hard side binders, spirals and covers will NEVER go through. So rule of thumb: stack your documents less than an inch, or even half an inch together. DO NOT use hardbound covers for your photo albums and document covers.
I've noticed that some interviewers got annoyed at applicants who took forever in submitting their documents and photos, as these applicants had to take out the photos from the albums one by one. It was time consuming. I followed the advices here and there. I taped my photos in bond paper, and put captions below them.
A.Appointment Letter and valid ID
(will be shown to the guards before you enter the embassy)
B. DS Forms
(staple 2 sets of DS 156 and DS 157. DS 156K alone)
C.Identification papers and police clearances
(only the first 3 were asked from me, and they were all together in one plastic separate)
- NSO Birth certificate
- NBI Clearance
- Police Certificate/s from the countries you stayed in for 6 months or more.
Other identification papers that were asked from other applicants
- Baptismal Certificate
- Divorce decrees
- Death certificates
- Annulment papers
D. Affidavit of support papers
Notarized Form I-134
- Ricky’s Employment Letter
- 2010 Tax Copies (Tax Transcripts and E-filing)
- 2010 W2 Copies
- Sample Recent Pay Stubs / Copies
(Those are all I submitted. The 2008-2009 forms were in a separate folder, as I have read that some Filipino interviewers only glance at those to make sure your fiance pays taxes, and has a stable job, then gives them back to the applicant. I did not want to clutter the folder with unnecessary papers, just in case she was just going to glance at them and return them to me.)
In clear plastic separates, I also had the following optional papers, JUST IN CASE they asked for it. In my case, they didn't ask for these. But some applicants were asked for the following:
- Bank letter/statements
- Insurance papers
- Stocks/Bonds, etc.
E. Proof of Engagement Documents and Photos
(in flexible plastic folders, stacked back to back)
- Renewed Letter of Intent to Marry
- Engagement Ring Receipt
- Engagement Photos (with Captions)
F. Other Documents for Proof of Continuous Relationship
(in plastic separates)
- Snail mails, cards and postal envelopes and waybills (they vary in sizes and bulky when stacked together)
- Electronic Correspondences (bound in folder, with button fasteners)
---> Skype VIDEO Chats (Print Screen)
---> E-mail Correspondences (5 of his, 5 of mine)
---> Screen Shots of Yahoo! Messenger Archive - Everyday Conversations
--->Yahoo CHAT Logs (from 2006-2011)
- Money Transfer Receipts (In plastic separates)
- Text messages
- Phone Bills - (In plastic separates)
G. Proof of Meeting Prior to Application
(In flexible plastic folder, stacked back to back)
- Immigration Stamped Passport Page
- Ricky’s Airline Receipt
- Ricky's Itinerary from the Travel Agency
- Ricky's Original Boarding Passes
- Hotel Receipts during Ricky's visit
TIPS in organizing your documents:
1. Make your documents look very presentable and clutter-free.
2. Use side tabs for easy reference.
3. Use color-coding, but avoid neons!
4. Use button fasteners, instead of long fasteners.
5. DO NOT stack your papers too thick. They will not pass through the slot. Maximum thickness should be half an inch. And make sure that the stack will be flexible enough, as they will be bent when passing though the slot.
6. DO NOT use hard-bound covers, hard side binders, and thick photo-albums. In fact, drop the idea. You might earn the ire of a grumpy Filipino interviewer if your documents and photos are in hard covers, and you would find yourself taking them out from the binder one at a time.
7. Use paper clips if you don't have plastic separates
8. Know where your documents are! Don't mix your proof of relationship documents with the financial documents.
9. Most importantly, your documents should be COMPLETE! Some applicants left the embassy in tears, and were put in AR because they lacked important documents. These are only tips and suggestions.
God bless you! Thanks a lot!

I am not sure how this works. Let me know after it worked for you.
When is your interview! I am 5 days behind you and missed September interview date.
How did you get your case moved to Chennai Consulate? Did NVC did it for you?
-
Thanks a lot! God bless you! Good Luck!
Looks like it got forwared to Mumbai Consulate...can anybody share Mumbai Consulate experience.
-
Hi! My petition was forwarded to Mumbai Consulate. However, it will convenint for my fiancee to appear at Delhi Consulate. Did anybody requested a transfer of case from Mumbai to Delhi? Can you plz share the experience.
-
Congratulations - Now the real thing begins. Buckle Up and start preparing now for the interview.
USCIS will now forward your case to NVC and they will assign the NWD number (assuming New Delhi is your embassy). You can call them up and check when they will forward the case - typically takes about 10 working days for them to forward the case to the embassy.
Next Steps
New Delhi embassy doesn't send packet 3, that is what my experience has been. Just send an email to VFS requesting for the forms or download the DS 230 and applicants form from the US embassy's website. Fill the forms scan them and email them to VFS along with the photograph (Its not necessary to paste the photo on the form u can send it as a separate attachment). Make sure that the size of the email is less than 2 MB otherwise VFS will not be able to open it. (I wasted good 20 days because I wasnt aware of this).
VFS will forward the emails to the embassy and you will receive the interview letter (Packet 4) within 10-15 business case. I suggest you follow up with VFS through email - dont call just email.
Start preparing documents for the interview - Make sure that you start this right away - get the PCC from both the regional passport office and the local police station.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Thanks a lot! God bless you! Good Luck!

My NOA2 got approved recently for K-1 Fiancee visa. Can you please share what would be next step be? I am assuming Packet # 3 would not be received!!
In that case my fiancee will forward the DS 230 form scanned & the letter stating she got ready with her necessary documents, via email to the emabssy. When do we submit all the documentary evidence of relationship, before interview or at the time of interview. When do we pay the visa fees? How do I obtain the NWD Case #? Who assigns a NWD case #? Can somebody please detail out the entire process, since the approval of NOA2.

Lately on this forum I've been seeing depressing, horror stories of rejection or placement into AR/AP when dealing with the consulates in India, particularly the one in Delhi (which so happens to be the one we will be dealing with).
I have seen a few successful stories so I'm asking you guys, what are some tips for the success of our K-1?
Right now I'm seeing several obstacles with our case that may become a problem down the line.
-When Kirpal was working in Thailand, he traveled a lot for work including entering and exiting Thailand multiple times to renew his visa
- In the 3 years that we have been together, we spent 14 consecutive months apart
-I only worked at the place I met my fiance for one month
-He applied for an F-1 visa two times and was rejected
-Our photos do not have electronic dates on them
-Neither of us have had steady employment or a steady residence from the last 5 years (mostly due to jumping around a lot with jobs because neither of us can find permanent work in our fields)
-We are an interracial couple
-Kirpal is a Hindu, I am a Christian
However, we also have a lot of good things that could go in our favor
-We met in person while we were working together and spent a year together in the U.S. while he was on a J-1, allowing our relationship to progress naturally as an average couple would
-I met him once while he was working in Thailand and spent 2 and 1/2 months with him
-Our families both approve of the relationship and the future marriage
-We already have some evidence of our future wedding plans
-We have plenty of evidence of an ongoing relationship
The question is how to play up the good points while pushing aside the potentially damaging facts?
All I can say... the very fact that he applied for F-1 and got rejected will looked upon as he trying to migrate to US, using you as a stepping stone!Your race/religion will be working against you....try to meet more and have solid evidence of ongoing relationship. Good Luck!
