  1. Have any of you had experience with this? We came to the interview in Rio prepared with our waiver with covered illegal presence and CIMT, but she would only give us illegal presence and told us Lima would make the final decision so to just keep our waiver as is and turn it in. Has anyone been through a similar situation to this and what happened? I feel really good about everything else and everything did run pretty smoothly. But I don't want this to end up being a big headache!

  2. Well this is my new favorite forum: got an RFE yesterday stating that my husband's birth certificate was missing. I had put it in the cover letter, translated it, put a post-it note on it - and of course, it is the ONE thing that goes "missing." It is now under "review" by a supervisor who will look at it in the next 10 days. (FOR REALZ???). Whenever I call the NVC they say they need the ORIGINAL birth certificate when I sent a certified copy - which is how it works in FRANCE. How can I get to talk to a supervisor to explain this to them and get them to see that my BC is NOT missing or is it better to just send off another Birth Certificate?

:help: I am seriously worried sick about this.

Same exact thing happened to us. Only we sent in the original birth certificate... and they said our marriage certificate wasn't original which is DEF. was. My lawyer sent them file copies of them and sent a letter in response telling them that they are indeed the originals and to go back over them. That's what they're going to get if we have to send them again.... because they're the originals! If you can, call NVC and talk to a supervisor or if you have a lawyer have them deal with it. Ask any lawyer and they'll tell you that they deal with this with almost every case!

  3. Well I have been living in Brazil for 3 years and have picked up on some yummy things. For a birthday I would definitely say make wet cake or Bolo molhado. Theres tons of variations based on what she likes and there's a lot of room for creativity. My husband is obsessed with my wet cakes he says they're better than any he's had before. Guess it's my American tastes coming to the table. ANyway. You basically take any cake mix you like and bake it in whichever mold you fancy most. As soon as it comes out of the oven you poke a bunch of holes in it and let it cool for just a minute or two. You want it to still be hot. Throw a can of condensed milk in a little saucepan and heat it on low to medium flame with a little milk and butter. Depending on what she likes, you should also through in things like cinnamon, chocolate drink mix, coconut flakes, brown sugar, etc. and as soon as it's hot you pour it over the cake so the "caldo" seeps down into the cake. You can serve it warm or cooled... it's even better with ice cream. Good luck! Def. take the above advice and look on web sites. There are TONS of things you can make that she'll love. Even better though would to find an international market and buy some pao de quiejo "cheese bread" mix, or you can find them in the frozen section sometimes... and make those for her. It's pretty much the most popular food anywhere in Brazil.. EVERYONE eats them for breakfast and snacks.
