Very helpful information here! When we were at that stage of the process we could not find such a definitive answer and so we got a letter from my step-son's biologic father. Now I realize we didn't need it. It would be nice if this information was posted in a prominenet place in the guides for all of us that have had this question. Thank you SMR!

i just hope that you have a better experience with your lawyers than i am with mine. everything was going fine until the last stretch with the NVC and they have been really dragging their feet. I estimate that they have wasted about 2 months of this process. I got lawyers with the idea that i could have piece of mind while they deal with the dirty work but it's just been a headache in the last stretch here. Good luck and i hope your whole process goes smooth.
