  1. It covers MEDICAL BILLS, not government debt. If he owed these bills to the hospitals it would. These are not medical bills anymore. They have been paid already by the government. This is now government bill. Do you see he difference?

For example, what you owe in terms of tuition to school is school bill, covered by bankruptcy. Once you take Federal Stafford or Perkins loan it becomes government debt NOT covered by bankruptcy.

Similar example: if you pay your taxes with the credit card it IS covered by bankruptcy since you owe to the bank. However, if you owe taxes directly, it is not.

It all depends on the sub-chapter you choose, how you owe that debt to federal gov, your financial condition, hardship etc...

If you paid your taxes with credit card and the trustee or the creditor is able to prove. then you gotta pay that debt.

  2. There's some sort of pregnancy/maternity exception in medicaid if you are a green card holder for less than five/three(not sure) years. This is the reason they asked you to fax over the GC. Medicaid is protecting the baby that will born in American soil. so the mother is only covered during the pregnancy. I know of two cases, one in Texas (GC less than a year) and one in Florida (GC less than 3 yrs) were on medicaid. You got nothing to worry about as long as you said she is/was a GC holder the time you applied. With all due respect if you lied in your application then they will likely charge you with fraud case. hope this helps

  3. About 1.5 weeks ago I was told I had a case complete. The next day I received a notice saying that they need our police certificate. New Zealand is a special case where you only sent in a forum so that the consulate is able to obtain your records. I sent this with my paperwork. I called the help line and they said to just ignore this message. Many people on here say that after nothing else is needed the online payment portal fails to work. My payment portal still works. Is this normal and was their advice correct about ignoring the message? How long should it be until we get an interview date assigned?

the payment portal still works for my mothers case. her interview was on 06/10/2012 Approved. POE 6/25/2012. received GC, SS within two weeks after POE. I doubt payment portal tells you anything but fee payment status regarding your case status.

  4. And what happens when it's discovered during the background check (not listing where he's worked) Won't the employer feel that he may have hid something? In my industry, every job has to be listed going back ten years...they run background checks and verify the information too.

It's not a requirement for the standard resume to put everything down. Employers will let you know if that's a must.

  5. i took whatever i got after i graduated with EE from a US School back in 2003. b/c i didn't have enough professional contact. it took me a year to get something decent. then in 2009 my business crashed due to the economy and i took whatever i got. took me about 13 months to get what i wanted. i kept my options open and relocated as needed. being out of the house helps to meet people.

  6. YOU NEED TO READ FORM FORMS BEFORE MAKING A STATEMENT. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EXAMPLES NEXT TO POST SOMETHING. AND I AM TALKING ABOUT CURRENT VJ'S WHO HAVE APPLIED RECENTLY.

they took less than a week to process any correspondence i sent. case completed less than a week after my last correspondence (IV documents). however they took six weeks from the day USCIS approved the case to send DS-3032/AOS fee bill. I did contact the local congressman office to make an inquiry on my behalf 4 weeks after I-130 approval though. Check my timeline form more detail. still waiting for the interview date.

  8. I have been spending too much time on VJ lately. I visit this website on average every thirty minutes to see if anyone has posted anything new. This wait is driving me crazy.

Is anyone in a same state of mind as I am?

on the same boat. promised to myself this morning no VJ stuff today while @work. but got an approval notice from USCIS for I-539 (from B-2 to F-1 for my nephew). and got tempted to see if any update here too :)

  9. Reading this reminds me I'm not alone. I'm glad I found this forum. It's so informative and has very understanding and sympathetic people on it. Hang in there, OP. It'll all be worth it once you get to kiss that face you get to see everyday on Skype!

My wife and I are so busy with work, and being in different time zones makes things difficult. I must say though, I'm getting pretty fit with all of the gym time I'm putting in. I think she'll be pleasantly surprised when we see each other again, assuming that isn't for a couple of months.

couldn't agree with you more. working out to reduce stress, frustration and back in shape. triple the benefit :)

  10. Good Evening Everyone,

I was feeling a little down today and I thought I could express my self a little on here. Seeing as most of you have found yourselves in similar situations, I thought I could write a little bit here to remind other people (and myself) that we are not alone. I am really missing my wife these days. We were married on 12/9/2011 and I have only seen her a total of 32 days since we first met in June of last year. We are in the final stages of the visa process as I just sent the actual Visa application on 8/2. I guess I'm just feeling very lonely today and missing my wife terribly. I hope anyone else out there who finds themselves in same circumstances that the process goes quickly and well for you. Wishing you all the best of luck. Goodnight and Good Luck.

    Joe Kwa

hang in there and it'll all be over in few months. if it makes u feel any better. i only spent 11 days total since i met her back in May last year. it's been very frustrating but it got easier to deal with when i reviewed some case taking years in this forum.

  11. What sort of jobs are they looking for?

What is their skill set, what did they do in their home country, what plans did they have for a new life in the US?

well, both of them were teachers but they will need certification to get into any ISD. and it doesn't make sense for them to go through certification just for the health insurance. They don't intend to stay here but to visit me. But the damn embassy won't let them come in with a tourist visa b/c i'm a US citizen. I will support them as long as they are here. but it would be nice to have a health coverage just in case. Light work, anything that doesn't require heavy lifting or being on the run.

  12. Once she has been a permanent resident for five years then she can PAY for Medicare coverage. It's not cheap, but it's a lot less expensive than private health insurance.

She will never be eligible for Social Security retirement benefits. She would have needed to work 10 years and paid into the system in order to be eligible.

SSI is a possibility, but she won't be eligible until she's been a permanent resident for five years. If she collects SSI, or any other means tested public benefit, while the affidavit of support is still enforceable then the US government can come after you for reimbursement. When you signed the I-864 you promised the US government that the taxpayers of the US would not be supporting your mother. She hasn't earned any benefits in the US, so you have to support her.

If she becomes a US citizen in five years then you're off the hook for the affidavit of support, and she can apply for means tested public benefits.

You really should have worked this out before you brought your mother to the US. Your friends were wrong.

Also some states are very liberal and they have health centers that will not even ask for her immigration status. But they will ask you for your immigration status and proof on income. Texas is definately not one of them. They only cover basic routine check ups such as blood tests, x-ray etc.. but you are liable for the med or any major procedures. you can sign up for discounted generic drug program.

  13. Where is he going to get a job with health benefits over the age of 65 and as a new immigrant with a presumably limited understanding of English?

Both my parents are very proficient in English. But being 65+ yrs has been a problem to find work especially that will offer health benefit. Also not having any driving skills limits to only bus/train route. So at the moment i don't know where or how.

  14. i was unable to get health insurance for my father b/c he's over 65 yrs. very few companies will insure him and premium is absurd. So it made sense for me to pay out of pocket for doc visits and med. Also per my advise they had check up done before coming here and they brought med to last them at least a year.

there's some subsidized health facilities that will bill you only a portion depending on ur income. Keep in my they may send a bill for those subsidized portion depending where it's coming from (federal/state gov).

My father is also looking for work with health benefit. So if ur mother is active enough to work then that will be anotther option.

  15. I agree that they process scheduling all month long. They processed my parents scheduling on the 3rd and 8th not too long ago. of course the actual interview was 1.5 to 2 months later. However this was what NVC told me this morning: "we will be scheduling date from the 13th to 20th of August for September interview". But again I got different answer from different representative for the same question on the same day.
