The Consulate in Rio de Janeiro doesn't ask any kind of permission to issue the vida for a k2. What she needs is a written permission allowing the kid to leave the Country at the airport. Without it the child can't go angst. Been there done ghat.

My kids were 8 and 9 at the time of my interview and the CO didn't ask anything to them. The CO was very friendly.

They will need the Policia Federal certificate online on the Policia Federal website and it is good for 90 days. They also need certificates from the Policia Civil from the State they live, some States offer the service online others request they go to a delegacia (this certificate is known az antecedentes criminais). If after the age of 16 yr they have lived in different States for more than 6 months, they will need the certificates from each State.

The consulate in Rio de Janeiro will schedule Fernandas interview not you guys, after the consulate receives the case they will send you a letter with the interviews date, if you guys want more time, you will need to email the consulate asking for another date.

Actually I think it's the other way around. CR=conditional resident (under 2 years of marriage) and IR=immediate resident (2 years or over). So, IR-1 would be the best one to aim for, unless you can't wait/aren't able to legally reside with your spouse in Brazil.

If you are married for more than 2 years you will receive a 10 years GC (CR1), think will be your case when you come back after finish your law school in a few years. Less than 2 years into a marriage you receive a 2 years GC (IR1) and after that you will need to apply for the 10 years GC, like us that came with the k1.

Rio de Janeiro is the consulate in Brazil for K1, the USA embassy is in Brasilia (DF).

I would not worry about yours emails are in Portuguese, send pictures showing you met within the last 2 years, emails, and fill correctly all the forms.

In Brazil they set your date, no chance to book your interview online.

Call the consulate asap.

I came to USA with K1 visa and with 3 kids (at the time 13, 9 and 7) and all of them needed their own valid passport, and yes everyone will need one 156.

When I met my husband he was in the same process that your friend...he filled his taxes as married and with his ex.

We didnt have any problem during the K1 adventure, so I don't believe your friend will have some problems.

Only during our AOS interview they asked to my husband why he signed his divorce at the same day he sent the petition for K1, he told his story and they were living together, we have proofs of this...and everyhting went well.
