  1. Congrats! You and your daughter are so lucky you got to become citizens together. It sounds like it went really well, very happy for you guysy :-)

I agree! Thank you. We are lucky, very lucky. Of the 69 people who were Naturalizing, we were the only ones who naturalizing as a *pair / family*. It really was a bonding Mother/Daughter experience.

  2. Hello fellow June filers,

I'm proud to be posting as a new USC!!!!!!!! It was very special to me, not only has it been a long journey (arrived in 98) but it was quite a moment to share with my 18 year old Daughter, Brynn. I am so glad that I waited and that we did it together, I know she really enjoyed the ceremony today and was very proud. She is a Nursing student at Temple University and 3 of her University friends came to watch the ceremony. It was so wonderful to see these young people so interested an impressed with the Ceremony. Afterwards we went to celebrate over a great meal.. we were all starving by the time it wrapped up.

There were 69 applicants and it all moved fairly quickly. Clearly they do this a lot, it was like a well oiled machine. The 69 represented 40 countries - simply amazing. They said they had a ceremony Monday too, so the total new USC from the Philly office is just over 200 this week!

We were called up by rows to verify there were no changes in status since the approval date and to surrender our GC's... we then were asked to verify the information on the Certificates is correct.

This process took about 45 minutes for 69 people! We all then stood for the National Anthem, then the Director was called to come to give us the Oath. He came and spoke for a few moment, we then watched a short video of others Naturalizing, a video of President Obama congratulating us all and reminding us of the responsibilities that come along with the priviledge of being a USC. The oath was the read and we were asked to repeat - we also pledged allegiance to the flag. We were then called up one by one to have a photo with the Director presenting each of us with our Certificates.

Once everyone received their Certificates there was a lot of applause, hugs, some crying... it was really really great.

The folks from voters registration were present.. so that is all taken care of.

M.Add - Congrats to you... can't wait to read about your day.

Thank you to all for the support.. It has been great to come her often and see how others are moving along in the process.

Oh, can someone change my status to USC and make me RED, Please....

Thank you!!!!!!!!! Taniya... I hope you get your letter soon.

  3. I applied for my passport on the day of my oath taking (October 19, 2011) and I got it today, 8 days later.

Goodluck to all June filers who are still waiting for their interview schedules and congratulations to those who took their Oath and about to take their Oath! Cheers!!!

Wow! Did you pay for the expedited processing?

  4. Sue whom for what? The U.S. government for taking its time to review your request? Which law tells you how much time they are allowed to take? It would cost you several million dollars in legal fees to even get such a lawsuit to a level where the DoS even would take notice. And once they do take notice, somebody would make a phone call to Janet and then decide that your application for naturalization is being denied with prejudice. A few days later you will be stopped on the way home and they'll find marijuana in the trunk of your car. You'll be arrested, jailed, sentenced, and deported. You are a foreigner, a guest in this country, and you want to take on the U.S. government? That is so ridiculous, it's almost funny.

    LOL

  5. Spousal support is not based on length of marriage. Alimony is. I'm not a lawyer but worked Support Enforcement in the State of PA for a number of years. If he is the breadwinner, she is entitled to spousal support for the duration of the divorce process. She can ask for a mortgage deviation if there is a house involved. Health insurance costs are also factored into the equation. It is retro active from the date of filing, so if he is out of the house, file now - figure it out later.

Oh, and you don't need a lawyer for either divorce or Support issues. If there were child custody or huge financial assets involved, then yes.. lawyer up. I don't think that is the case here. And let him spend the filing fees for the divorce... a divorce filing is not required to request spousal support.

  6. With regards to spousal support, that is an issue for the family court judge presiding over the case. You can check your state laws yourself to see if you're entitled, I will venture to say you have probably not been married long enough, just my guess.

Start the divorce by getting a lawyer, but seeing as you're unemployed, consider the cost of such. Assuming you have no property to divide or debts to fight over, your divorce should not be complicated, you can have a paralegal prepare the pleading, you file it yourself and appear before the court in pro per/pro se. That is an option if you can not afford to retain a lawyer, provided you have no property/debts to complicate things.

Your husband has already completed AOS, he will need to remove the conditions later in order to get the 10 yr GC.

  7. Is not it strange, right? On my interview day, everything was perfect and I have a clean background. Even the officer told me that I have been approved. The only problem was, there are no slots remaining for scheduling oath on October. Hopefully I will be called soon.

Wish you all the best after becoming USC.

Thank you! I wish you were to be there too.

  8. Congratulation Designer in advance for your upcoming Oath Ceremony. I am so glad to see that you are almost done.

However, we both have attended our interview at same INS office. In fact, my interview was placed at 20 days earlier than your's interview, when I was told that I can't have my Oath in October as all oath ceremony slots in philadelphia is already full for October. Does it mean, the INS officer was lying to me for some reason? Probably I am the unlucky one.

Wish a wonderful day on your oath ceremony.

    Taniya,

I am sorry that you have not been scheduled for your Oath yet. My IO was a very kind man named Mr. Graham. He said there were a few slots left for Friday's Oath. He put me and my Daughter in. He offered Friday, until he offered, the topic of Oath had not yet been discussed.

One of the first things I did Monday when posting about our Interview experience was to review you in the timeline - I was hoping to see you as scheduled for the 28th also.

  9. Congratulations, and dont forget to update your social security card, license and apply for passport after your oath.

I forgot about the license... thanks for the reminder.

Indiana, Allen county used to use voter records to pick from for Jury duty. Some people did not vote just so they would not be pick for Jury duty. The list of names was just to small and people were being call back up every few years. So they expanded the list of name to include drivers license, property ownership, city utilities, pet registrations, library cards. Basically any place the county can get a list of names you are now in the mix for jury duty.

It is an honor to do jury duty but don't be in such a hurry. It can be quite traumatic to know you hold some ones life or at least there future in your hands.

Thanks... LOL.. I'm in no hurry to be called for Jury Duty, I just wanted to be sure that I am in the system to be called upon if need be.

  10. Updating designer's oath date.

OMG.. I just got teary eyed seeing my time line updated for the Oath. :crying:

  11. Congratulations first!!!!!

No, passport application can be done before SS update. As a matter of fact, when I asked the SSA office, they said to wait a week before going in to update my record to make sure my naturalization number kicks in and all agencies can see it. However, I am sure you are aware that it needs to be done after oath and not now....

One question though - are you and your daughter in the same oath ceremony? I am hoping it is a typo that your daughter is 24th and your are 28th....

Yep, I know we have to do the Oath before the Passport.. yes, sorry typo.. we both do the Oath on the 28th. Thank you!

  12. Hi Everyone...

We arrived at the Philly INS office at 7:55, cleared security and up to the 2nd floor by 8am. The receptionist took our Interview notice and advised us where to go.. Daughter was to be interviewed on the 2nd floor, I made my way up to the 3rd floor where my Interview Officer was waiting for me. He was very very pleasant. The interviewer went over the information on the application - travel dates needed to be updated for recent travel and then onto the interview questions.

    1. What did the Declaration of Independence do?

    2. If both the President and the VP cannot serve, who becomes President?

3.. What is the Supreme law of the land?

    4. How many amendments to the Constitution?

    5. We elect a US representative for how many years?

    6. How many Justices on the Supreme Court?

He approved my application and invited me to participate in the Oath Ceremony Friday Oct 28th at 2pm. He was willing to walk with me to find where my daughter was to have that Officer put my Daughter in the same Oath Ceremony.... as we were walking down the hall.. we found her 3 door down with a very stern looking man. Daughter said he lightened up very early into the interview, approved her - didn't go over her application at all, as I had signed that I had prepared the document. He did ask her for more information about her underage drinking charge and giggled that it was changed to disorderly conduct/fighting.. He too gave her the invite for the Oath, Friday Oct 24th.

I dreaded this entire process as to date everything we did with the INS was a hassle... our files were MIA for about 18 months... anyway.. So glad it is over and Friday we free of the INS.

Question about the Passport; do we need to update our SSN to citizen before applying for Passports?

  13. I was nervous myself, but there is really nothing to be nervous about. IOs seemed to be nice across the board, and they realize that we can be nervous. Just review your application and make sure you remember everything on it. Bring with you some bag with a lot of documents in it - I think when they see that, they feel that you are prepared and skip over asking for evidence.. If they originally planned to ask. For me, it was such a relief knowing what to expect (civics exam, reading, writing, application review, then see him sign the papers).

You can't help being nervous but relax and focus on the civics. For me, when I answered the first question, I relaxed a lot since I realized that I know the answers.

One last advice - don't be afraid to ask questions especially regarding the oath...

GOOD LUCK TO BOTH OF YOU!!!

Thank you! I'm heading out shortly to pick up my Daughter from her University then heading over to the Philly Office. I will post when I return home. At this point I'm most nervous about the drive... I really don't like driving into the city.
