  1. I filed single the first year that I was married, it didn't make a diffrence to the embassy. I did not file as married until my husband reached US soil.( I didn't need the married tax break) You can always adjust your prior year tax filing status.

Its actually the same reason of my husband, he said that his accountant advised him to file single and that he can always adjust his status once I'm already in the US. However, the consul questioned me about this and requested a written explanation from my husband why he didn't change his status in his IRS.

Will the consul accept the explanation that since I am not in the US by the time of filing, he opted to file single because filing married will require me to have a SSN which is impossible at that time.

Can anyone help me with this? thanks a lot

  2. hi everyone!

I just had my Cr1 interview today here in Singapore. When the CO checked my husband's IRS form she questioned why did my husband filed in his tax return for 2010 that he is single well in fact we already got married April 2010. She said, did your husband lie to the IRS? I couldnt give her a definite answer that time because I wasnt aware of her question.

My husband said, he opted not to change his status yet because I am not in the states yet. He will change it once I got there and able to get my SSN.

She handed me a white paper but she wants me to return back to her and provide a written explanation from my husband explaining why he didnt change his status in the IRS. ( And the singapore police certificate which I was not able to give yet at the time of the interview)

I got totally confused and now Im afraid that she will totally deny me a visa.

Can someone help me fix it.

    Thanks a lot! GOd bless
