  1. pushbrk, I was editing my post as you were replying. The application is not the only paperwork that's look at. I am not saying that documents don't get separated, but having a cover letter explaining this and the copy of the marriage license, plus (NONE) written on the application makes it highly unlikely they'll be any issues later on. You're right Maria ---- Gonzalez wouldn't get addressed like this, but nor would mail go out like this either: Maria (NONE) Gonzalez. Anyways, the OP can always contact any of the processing offices and see what they'd suggest.

  2. I think (NONE) will be the best thing to write, as ---- may be seen as not completing the application properly and later resulting in a RFE (request for further information). Because the person(s) looking at the application will not know if a)she doesn't have a surname b)she does, but it is unknown (which happens) c)a typing mistake made by the petitioner thinking he/she was filling in another section...and so on.

Furthermore, the instructions indicate to write NONE if the beneficiary or petitioner has never used another name then the one being used to file, so it's unlikely they'll think it's referring to a surname. But again as a "just in case", explain this situation in the cover letter which will be validated by the copy of the marriage certificate and further evidence that your wife doesn't have a surname, and not that NONE is it. So I'd use ALL CAPS and parenthesis as a double safeguard to avoid 'none' being mistaken as her surname.

  3. I think (NONE) will be the best thing to write, as ---- may be seen as not completing the application properly and later resulting in a RFE (request for further information). For example, the instructions indicate to write NONE if the beneficiary or petitioner has never used another name then the one being used to file. Again, the cover letter and copy of the marriage certificate will further point to the fact that your wife doesn't have a surname, and not that NONE is it. So I'd use parenthesis as a double safeguard,as not to be mistaken as her surname.

  4. Furble, as suggested by Gosia & Tito, write none for the surname...but I'd also explain in the cover letter why this is the case (the norm in your wife's culture). Plus, this will be visible hence confirmed in docs you send(i.e. her first name only on the copy of the marriage certificate, since at the initial stage her birth certificate/record is not requested). Such cases are not new to immigration officials, so no worries. Best of luck to you both!

  5. Ok so let me see if i'm understanding this correctly. So, if the cosponsor makes $9.02 per hour and works 40 hours a week that is 360.80 a week multiplied by 52 is $18,761.60...which is just over a little. Is that ok? And, also all year up until this week she worked 40 hours but it will change this week to 35 hrs a week which would be $16,416.40....so what should we count? The 35 hrs a week or 40? And, my last question was i am in Cairo and filed here...the I-130 was approved and we are waiting to get the package from DHL with all the forms we need to fill out..which i am assuming the AOS will be in there for me to fill as i am the sponsor. Will the embassy send her an I-864 and she sends it back to them or can she print it out and fill it and send it to me here in Cairo and i submit it when i send back the papers to the embassy? Thanks so much for replying...this is helping me out so much!!

This is a little over for two people, not three or more. If using a cosponsor their income should cover not only you and your husband but the cosponsor and any other person/people in their household.

  6. My suggestion to you: forget about employment letter (this is exactly what I'm gonna do) and just use your last pay-stub as evidence of your employment and current income. I hope it has "Year to date" income (or have 4-6 month checks if there's no) and the date your pay-check was issued (and the period it covers).

    Hi Nickky,

I thought the employment letter is mandatory to include, hence not optional. Have you heard/read otherwise?

  7. Thank you both, Penguin_ie and calibob. 2008-2010 it is :D.

btw, I have a cousin who is going through this same process (still waiting for her NOA2, but it should be any day now) and she has been out of work so far this year though this week secured a position starting in Jan as well as now has a co-sponsor... So my question is, by her not working this year and provided her NVC Case # is available, can she immediately come January send the I-864 but instead representing 2009--2011, considering there will be nothing to file for 2011?

  8. Considering 2012 is almost here and NVC could take a month to generate a case number, if not more, I am wondering if my paperwork gets in during the month of Jan what do I write for Q. 25 on the I-864 form? 2011, 2010, 2009 or 2010, 2009, 2008?

    Thank you,

    Liz

  9. I checked old threads related to the subject but didn't see a definite answer for my particular situation. Here goes... my husband has a valid passport (it expires in July)for the upcoming process of sending docs to the NVC (still no case number as recently approved, though surely we'll be set to send paperwork in before Feb), but most likely come interview time his passport will no longer be valid (say an interview from Feb onwards). So can we use his current passport for his paperwork at the NVC (which should still be valid by the time the NVC has our file entered) and then come time for the interview present the renewed passport? I am just wondering if the passports are compared as they won't match come interview time. Also, my husband can't renew his passport before it has less than 6 mo.; therefore, not an option now.

    Thank you,

    Liz

  10. Well it seems that those of us waiting since June or July are getting our NOA2s, or soon will. I did! I was notified that my hard copy will arrive in the mail in a few days. My priority date was June 17th (CSC). So, I was coming real close to the 5 month mark. It's great to see that the slow months are catching up. I am wishing a speedy approval for all of those patiently (or not :D )awaiting their good news.
