  1. Do they hope to visit you for a couple of weeks.. or a couple of months? You mentioned both confusing time frames in your opening post.

Would that make a difference? I am not sure how long they want to stay yet. How long can they stay on Visitor Visa? Mom can probably stay 4-5 months but dad probably just couple of weeks.

  2. The two don't appear to reconcile..

They apply for a B2 visa. Is your mom a grandma to kids back in India.. or kids in the US?

Thank you for your reply. She takes care of my nephew in India. Either one of them has never been to the USA.

Is it easy to get this visa? Do you know if I should apply or do they?

  3. Hello,

I am a US Citizen. My Parents are Indian Citizen and they want to visit me for a couple of months. I do not want to apply GCs for them since they have no intention of making the USA home. My dad is employed and he can only be off work for a couple of weeks max. My mom is a stay at home grandma. What are their option other than me applying for GCs?

  4. I am lost, didn't your husband petition for you, and to do so, weren't you already married to him, assuming your green card is in your maiden name. And changing your name to what? An entirely different name or to your husband's last name? Or did you just insist on using your maiden name on your first green card, you can do that if you wish. My wife used both, but was easy to drop her maiden name at her citizenship interview with no delays, was the tradition in her country, but certainly leads to lots of confusion here.

Its easy for a woman to change her maiden name to her married name, in practically all instances with exception of the USCIS, not only cost you a small fortune but takes months. Also wonder about your removal of conditions status if you were married less than two years before applying.

Having a baby does give extra evidence of a valid married relationship, but only augments your evidence, still need all that other stuff like joint taxes and for a good relationship, paying bills and buying stuff in both of your names, when applying for that three year marriage privilege. USCIS defines a happy marriage as filing joint income taxes together.

I am talking about changing my last name. With the baby on the way I was hoping to have the same last name as my husband and the baby.

The citizenship interview is the one you have after 3 years right??

I guess thats the only way to do it without paying for it and having to do a bunch more paper work.

How did your wife get the name changed? What forms did she have to file?

    Thanks for your time!

  5. Thanks everyone! Like Ree mentioned you cannot have your last name changed on your SS card without the name being changed on your GC. And to change your name on your Driver's license you need the SS card with the new last name. To change the name on before you get your citizenship, there is a fee of some kind, which I dont wanna pay. Correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you all for your inputs!

  6. Hi VJ friends,

I am a Greencard holder(Greencard through marriage) since October 2011. I know I have to wait for two years before I can apply for the Citizenship. But we are having a baby this month. The baby will be a US citizen since his father is. Does this change anything? Can I apply for Citizenship sooner? I just want to get it all over with and have my last name changed without paying more money to ICE.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thank you all!

  7. Hello everyone

I am trying to get some info for a friend who was brought here as in infant in 1947. Her mother is a Canadian citizen and father was a US citizen. She has been paying in to the system for over 30 years and is in need of financial help. But she cant get any social security benefits because she was told by the govt that she is not a US citizen. She lost her Social Security Card and did not have a copy of it. As far as I know she cant even get a duplicate of it. What is the procedure and what does she need to get her the citizenship? What forms does she need to fill out?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

  8. Hello all!

I am new to this forum and in desperate need for some help.

First of all let me explain my situation so you'll have a better understanding.

I was a J1 exchange visitor with no 2 year restriction back in 2006. I extended for another year. Then I decided to be a full time student and applied for student visa. I got my F1 approved in 2008. I travelled back to India with my approval letter for F1 visa and I 20 and got the F1 visa which is valid till 2014 stamped on my passport. Just to be clear I didn't go out of status during any of these process.

Back in 2009 I met my husband at school. We decided to get married in Feb 2011 after dating for almost 2 years. And yes he is a citizen.

Meanwhile my I 20 expired in May 2011. I didn't think that would be problem or take any initiative to renew the I 20 since we were already married.

So now we have been trying to submit our paperwork to apply for green card. I have almost all the paper work ready to go. Just got his new passport today in mail.

So here are my questions: I will submit one at a time that way I don't confuse anybody. Or may be two.

    Question about G 325:

When you submit your I 130 do you attach G 325 or G 325A to that bundle? And how many copies of it?

(Bcz I saw some websites say you have to submit 4 copies of it. But the newest version only has one page and 2 pages of instruction)

    What is the difference anyway?

    More questions to come.

    Thanks in advance.
