  1. Hello All,

    Hope this finds everyone well.

Background: I am applying for citizenship based on 3 years of permanent residency resulting out of a marriage with a US citizen and unsure what to print for the part 8 questions (time outside the USA) on the N400 application. I have not travelled outside of the country ever since my arrival 3 years ago and since my application is based out of 3 years and not 5 years of permanent residency, I need expert opinion or help from individuals who are familiar with this siuation and have applied with success.

Question: For the following questions in the Part 8 of the N400 application form, what do I answer since my presence to the country and application to the citizenship is based out of 3 years and not 5 years.

    1. How many total days (24 hours or longer) did you spend outside the United States during the last 5 years? ____ Days

    2. How many trips of 24 hours or longer have you takenoutside the Unites Statesduring the last 5 years? ____ Trips

For the above questions on the form, do I answer 0 since I have not taken any trips or travelled outside during the last 3 years? Would I be lying if I write 0 since they are asking about 5 years and not 3 years? Since I'm applying based on 3 years as residency and have been in the country for 3 years, would I rather write NA (not applicable)? I have gone through all possible FAQ documents but have not found the answer. Any help is much appreciated.

    Thanks!

  2. My wife who is dependent on me and is due to deliver our first child later this year and we would like to have her parents (both working) to visit us during that time. Please provide expert opinion as to whether I need to provide the I134 (Affidavit of Support) with their application (DS160) to the consulate or not? Would providing this makes their case stronger or weak? They will pay for their tickets while they will obviously stay with us on the house we currently own. I was researching earlier on the following site http://www.**.com/visitor-visa/sponsor-documents.html but confused as to what documents to send to ease the process of acquring their visas. Any help with this on what documents to send and answer to the above question is highly appreicated. Please help!

  3. Man, are you some Prince who would be coming with tons of gold?

Apart from Joke, I think she can wear as much ornaments as she can, no restrictions on that.

She can carry ornaments that are justifiable. I've see someone coming back with 20 troy ounce of worth of gold ornaments without raising any eyebrow.

Theoratically you accompanying her is not supposed to make any difference, but your US passport would give a different impression to the airline agents and of course confidence to your wife.

Wish I could give you a definititive answer !!!

Haha...thanks for your reply. I wish I was a prince, however you know how it is when you get married in our sub continent! :) My wife obviously do not intend to wear those on her journey but want to carry in person. I was looking for CBP and Dhaka airport rules but couldn't find any definitive answer. Wonder what the other couples did?

  4. Hi All,

Anyone aware of latest on BD Departure Baggage Rule and US Arrival Baggage Rules? I was actually wondering how much of my wife's gold ornaments can she bring in with her? Would it make any difference, in terms of this, if I accompany her to US? Will be helpful if anyone can provide me any information/links.

    Thanks!

  5. Just like Tr3sh4, I would not make a statement, but this is what my experience was:

    A. My case was approved by NVC on May 27, 2011 and I got the interview date on July 25, 2011. Approximately 2 months (I was notified on 1st week of June) Oh well, I guess that answers B as well

Here is what you will hear from NVC (and I think I posted this in one of my previous mails); they will contact the local embassy after the 15th on each month with the approved case. The Embassy sends them a response on what they can accomodate the next month. What Embassy can NOT accomodate on that month will be moved for the next months list. Of course, that doesn't mean the moved ones are treated as a new approval, rather there is a serial where the priority goes with the serial. Let me put this to an example:

Say for example, there were 100 cases approved in June. After July 15, NVC will send this list of 100 to the embassy. Embassy says, we can only process 75 (the first 75 by approval date) and sends the 25 back. NVC approves another 50 cases in July. They will reach out to embassy with the list of 75 (25 from June and 50 from July). Embassy say's hey, I can accomodate only 50 (or all, or what not). Out of this 50, 25 will be from June.

    Dos that makes sense?

Thank you both again for sharing your experiences. I just hope this long and tiring emotional journey ends soon. Surely this takes a heavy toll on a lot of things! But thanks to this forum and helpful people like you all who has made it easier, which also helps to look forward to the light at the end of the tunnel. My NVC case completed today, so it took a week (which I think was quick) after sending them the DS230 and AOS but unfortunately they couldn't give me an interview date yet and said there is no available date on Oct. Eid and Thanksgiving being on Nov, I have now no idea when they will schedule the interview. I just hope and pray for a quick positive outcome. Please keep me and my wife in your prayers! Take care all and good night.

  6. Guys,

I have 2 Questions which might be best answered who are already done with this journey for IR1/CR1 for their wife/husband living in Bangladesh.

    A) Once the NVC approves the case, approximately how many days/weeks after do you get the interview date from the Bangladesh consulate?

    B) What is the usual time line from NVC Case approved till the interview date (weeks/months)for Bangladesh consulate?

Thank you all in advance and best of luck!

  7. Hello AK2011,

I would kindda agree with Penguine_IE that you can't really say for certainty why a case went for further review, but in this case, your request could trigger it.

However, I don't think there would be anything hold you from sending DS3032 (choice of agent). This is an email and I haven't seen any specific guideline as to when you can send it. The worst that could happen is it sitting in a mailbox. When you are going to call NVC to update the petitioner and beneficiary's email address, you can also make a inquiry about the DS3032. I know someone correct me earlier saying one should call first before sending DS3032, but the other one worked in my case; hence I don't think there is any hard & fast rule on which one should go first.

My suggestion, just call or send DS3032 and do the other one. That way, you don't need to spend a day after the review is over. My personal experience with NVC was awesome and I met few wonderful people who went beyond their way and give me clarification on my questions.

I hope soon you will hear something positive. Good luck and keep calling :-)

Thanks Guys! Infact I did sent my DS3032 but they replied me saying my app is still under review. Been calling everyday ad they say there will be no result in sending the DS3032 before it has been generated on their system to submit. Everyday same statement: Please allow up to 20 to 30 days for the DS3032 to get generated and once your app status has been reviewed.

I will keep on calling but feeling a bit frustrated with NVC,since I thought if you have the correct docs, this stage passes smoothly without any delay!

Please wish me some good luck guys.

    Thanks,

  8. Hello All,

On Aug 25 I had my naturalization and that very day I emailed my naturalization certificate with a petition to upgrade the application for my wife from Preference Category F2 to IR1. However the next day (Aug 26) they notified me that application was upgraded to CR1. Since my marriage to my wife was over 2 years, I again sent an email with the copy of my marriage certificate requesting to upgrade status to IR1. They responded back to me via email on 1st Sept that my petition is now under review and it has passed almost two weeks without any result. Calling them is futile since they tell you that it may take up to 20-30 business days. Now I'm thinking I should have been content with the CR1 status and proceeded with the rest instead of trying to correct them. Since the review is not completed, I cannot even send the DS3032. Any one faced similar situation before or can advise on what I can do? I'm feeling very frustrated at this point. I have been calling them almost every day and have also pleaded with them over the phone with no result. I also asked if there are any papers that they need and they just reply that this review takes 20-30 days. I am at a loss! Any help?

  9. Texas do conduct oath on the same day if nothing is pending such as name change e.t.c. However, I actually was a bit unlucky on getting my oath the same day. I was 10 minutes past when my interview ended for the time of the oath for that day. The center where I gave my interview, conducts their oath every day at 11:00 am. So, whoever finishes off with their interview before 11, are the lukcy ones since the others are sent back to the system to get scheduled and that takes who knows how many weeks/months. This rule actually sucks! My case status still shows 'Testing and Interview' although I was given a notice I passed. Not sure why is that!!

  10. Hi Guys! I've been a silent participant of this thread and finally my date is approaching. I have my interview date for my Naturalization (Based on 5 years LPR) set for August and the Notice asks me to take 'Any evidence of Selective Service Registration'. Also the Document Check List - N659 13. says If you did not register with the Selective Service and you are male, over 26, were born on or after Jan 1960 and were a Resident between the ages 18-26 when you failed to register, explain your failure to register and bring: A Status Information Letter from Selective Service.

    - I became a Permanent Resident and entered the U.S when I was 27 years old, and therefore I do not think I was eligible for Selective Service Registration. Do I need to take a status information letter from selective service? Or what do I need to take for evidence that I was not eligible? Anyone been on the same situation?
