1. Yeah we all receive the one year extension and the note for the appointment to get your fingerprints taken!

    Thanks for the clarification

Everybody (pretty much) did receive this letter, reason being you're unlikely to get 10 year GC before your current one expires.

Standard thing. ASC notice is biometrics.

    You expected something else ?

Thanks for the clarification. I thought I would get letter saying "conditions from resident status have been lifted" smile.pngsmile.png

  2. I recently applied to remove conditions from my CR-1 green card and received my NOA promptly. However, it states that my conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year". It also states that " In order to further process your petition, you will be receiving an application support center appointment notice...."

Has anyone else received this kind of letter and know why an extension was issued?

    Thanks,

  4. Congrats, Mschana! Hang in there as far as feeling like a "dependent"...it will all come together, I promise. Ben kept himself "really" busy. He left when I did in the morning, and he'd jog to the soccer field and workout for a couple hours, then he'd go to the library which was right near the field, and do this and that...then he'd eat his lunch, lol, and then would keep busy going here and there getting acquainted with his new surroundings, and he didn't even have a car. He was used to walking and jogging because that's how it was when he was in Kenya. I read your other post about your husband's kids...yes, that has to be tough for you. Now, "that" is an adjustment if I must say so myself. Stay strong, sugar. Lots and lots of love (L)(F)(L)

    Hi Jill,

Thanks for the encouragement. I needed that. I am trying to keep myself busy. I have been trying to find out how the public transport system works. Everyone scaring me that i need to be careful coz we are close to Detroit so it may not be safe to ride on the bus...but hey I worked in downtown Nairobi and survived :hehe:

I guess it will all come together and I will begin loving it being here. I have been helping my huby at his business once every so often. For now I am educating myself about life here and bringing my hobbies (in my mind) with me.

  5. I am very encouraged by these posts. I moved to the US on June 8th and have been struggling to adjust. When I visited in Aug-2010 my husband was not living with his sons and so the house was neat and tidy and we had a really great time together. He opted to have the boys live with him,one son is autistic and the other recently graduated from high school but does not want to work or go to college. My first shock was when we got home and I found the house to be a total mess. I have lived alone for nearly all my adult life in a nice 3 bed apartment and have an interior decorating background. My first thoughts were to clean clean clean and maybe they would get the message that we need to live in a clean space. But every time I clean they just mess it up again. The autistic boy gets aggressive sometimes and causes lots of damage in the house--breaking doors, smashing windows and if I am alone with him I have to run to our room, lock the door until he calms down.

I almost quit the other day and told my husband that I want to go back home. I miss my house, my job(where i was CEO), my friends( haven't made any new friends here yet apart from those in his circle) and the fact that I have to depend on him for everything. I was used to driving myself around and earning a livelihood. He has a business where I get to help out and I am thankful for that but sometimes I feel that it is not a real job. I'm praying for patience and to keep hope alive.

The boys eat only junk throughout but my hubby and I decided we must eat healthy food. My hubby tries his best to help me adjust but sometimes I just break down and cry. Every Friday night we have a date night and today morning we went to walk in the Park.

I'm really glad to have read all the experiences here and know that others have had similar experiences and ended up successfully.

  6. Finally received the "Welcome to America" letter from USCIS. Went to the Social Security Office on 18th June but was advised to go back after 10 days since there was some hold up from Homeland Security. Settling and adjusting has been challenging seeing as have to be a "dependent". Hubby has been very supportive. Thankful to have come here in the Summer.

  7. Even if you got through to the numbers, they won't be able to assist you...you're passed all that and once it's at the Embassy level, they cannot really guide you in anyway. I would just wait patiently and keep checking the website for the DHL information...it will be there. It shouldn't be too long now.

    Patience patience patience.....

    Hi Nyatelo,

I am also waiting to get the waybill number on the CSC website but nothing so far. The CO at the Embassy had asked me to check after two days. I did send the Embassy an email today since two days have elapsed to enquire what could be going on and waiting for a response. I agree with Jill, try sending them an email to enquire about the status of your documents. Am told it could take up to 8 days to get the visa/passport from DHL...but best you hear it from the Embassy directly. Hoping we do not have to wait much longer....try not to worry, it will be well.

  9. Hello, Ben had to return to the Embassy and verify his fingerprints as well. He did that on a Tuesday and they told him to come back to the Embassy on Friday to pick up his passport with his visa in it. So, he got his passport back 3 days after verifying the fingerprints. Hopefully, they will do the same for you and you won't have to use DHL because then it will take longer for you to get your passport. Stay blessed.

The CO at the Embassy asked me to pick up the passport from DHL....no air bill number yet. Am hoping that it doesn't take too long to get it. She had asked me to check after two days..... The CSC numbers in Kenya do not work at all. Been trying to call in vain.

  10. Oh yes, certainly, of course...whenever you have time (even if you do it after you arrive in the states  ), no rush and no worries. Wrapping up your life in Kenya comes first! :star: I'm just so happy to hear you made it through. Enjoy every second of getting ready to come home to your loved one. Ben already had everything wrapped up before his visa was in hand because he had to go back to the Embassy to have his fingerprints redone...so by the time he actually received his visa, he was ready to go. Well, as far as I was concerned, he was ready to go! LOL. Had it not been for the fingerprints, he would have been able to fly home with me :( It's OK, he came a couple weeks after. Stay blessed and enjoy every step along the way, XOXO.

I will do so soon. It was the blonde lady.....now to begin winding up my life in Kenya! Thanking God for his favor and grace.

  12. I put ours in a small photo album, but Ben was not asked for any. Sometimes they ask...sometimes they don't. I think I would put them in a small album (take a bunch from each envelope) so you've got every envelope covered inside the album, LOL. You sound very organized and your husband has visited a lot. I wouldn't think you would have any problems. Just my thoughts :star: One more thing...please read "Jay and Maureen's" review of the Embassy...it's on their profile page. I think that would be very helpful to you. Look at the questions asked during her interview. They made it through with NO issues whatsoever :D

Thank you Jill for the information....will look for the albums this weekend. 13 days to go!!

  13. Please read through the Nairobi Embassy Thread...it's chock full of good advice and what to be concerned about with the Nairobi Embassy. Be confident and have EVERYTHING you could possibly need with you. Be organized...so that if they ask you for something you can just hand it right over to them. If you are interviewed by the blond woman, be prepared...she's a PIECE OF WORK. I strongly urge you to read through the Nairoby Embassy Thread...it pretty much covers everything and all sorts of experiences that all of us have had. GOOD LUCK TO YOU...let us know how you do. Stay blessed and focused and I'm sure you'll be just fine. :star:

Jill---what is the best way to present the photos...in an album or in separately labeled envelopes. i have placed envelopes in various small envelopes with labels so that its easy to identify photos of different situations and places / times where we are together, with family, etc

  14. Thank you for the information.

I have compiled as much secondary evidence as possible and have looked through the Kenyan portal.

Thankfully my husband has been to Kenya four times.....the first time he was here for 5.5 months. I will request him for the passport stamps, coz that's what I don't have right now. He was last here in December and stayed for 4 weeks.

We have lots of photos with his and my family.

    Hoping for the best....

  15. Hi,

We have finally come to the visa interview---just two weeks remaining!!!!

I'm putting everything together so I am ready. Any last minute advise for the Nairobi Embassy would be helpful.

I'm hoping that my voluntary cancellation of B2 visa wen I was denied entry in Detroit (Nov 2009) will not be an issue.

We did not have any hitches with USCIS or NVC.

    Would appreciate your tips.....

    Thx.
