I think a lot with depend on the individual's situation.

I'm going to add Australia to the EU, because mother England, the queen, Australia.. I digress.

For me, moving to the US made more sense than bringing my now wife to Australia, most being personal reasons.

I wanted a new life, before I met my now wife I was wanting out of Perth, Australia, and had made plans to move over east, I was offered a transfer with my company at the time and was going through the motions until my fateful holiday to the US, where I met my now wife - the rest is history.

For us, America held a better future for us, I love the pace of life here in Montana (I'm not a big city person), and although I had no prospect of work at the time, I held high hopes for a better future for us here in America.

Almost 5 years later, happily married, with a 2 and a half month old son, with a fantastic job, and an amazing home we purchased last year. I can honestly say we made the right decision.

If only America had a good healthcare system like Australia, but all things considered if I could go back I would have made the same decisions.

Rescheduling an interview or an oath ceremony should be a straight-forward process, but that's not always the case.

Some people reschedule with no trouble at all and end up with a new appointment 1 or 2 months later. Some people face complications as their rescheduling requests are not processed correctly, which causes delays of several months.

Speaking for myself, I would not reschedule a USCIS appointment unless there was an emergency. I would either wait until late November to apply or I would apply in July and be prepared to reschedule my vacation in the event of a conflict.

Again, rescheduling appointments is certainly possible.

You've expressed a desire to be naturalized quickly, but you haven't said that there's an urgent need. If there is a family member you need to sponsor urgently or if there's a job offer that will be gone in 6 months, then you may want to apply in July. if not, then there's no harm in waiting until November. I'd enjoy my vacation a lot more if I wasn't worrying about interview letters.

Of course, there's a chance that you could apply in July and be all done by your vacation.

It's a very subjective matter so you need to do what you're most at ease with... if you're the type of person who worries a lot and stresses when you don't get regular updates, then don't apply until November. If you're going to be relaxed about the process and don't mind possible rescheduling delays, then go ahead and apply.

Remember that if you apply in November you'll be setting yourself back by 4 months, which is probably longer than any rescheduling delays you'll face. So it's a choice between being naturalized as soon as possible or minimizing possible stress.

You are right, besides just 'being done with my Visa Journey', there is certainly no emergency to require this.

I think I might take your advice and wait until October-ish, I'd rather wait a few more months than potential cause issues.

I guess if you are on your vacation you would just have to reschedule, not that much of an issue if you are filing based on 5 years.

Thanks for the reply jimmypesto. So rescheduling bio/test/oath is not a big deal? if the ducks happened to align in November? I have never needed to reschedule a single appointment in the past so have no experience with that.

NB: I'm based on 3 years after being married to the same USC the entire time.

Well the final leg of my journey is almost upon me and I have a question.

I am applicable for filing for naturalization on July 24th this year. However I already have a vacation booked for my wife and I to (finally) get back to Australia (my wife's first time, my first time since I moved here in 2011)! We are going to be in Australia for the most part of November.

I was wondering what other people's recommendations are. I'm assuming tests+oath ceremonies wouldn't happen until 2016, well after we come back. And based on previous applications, bio-metrics would probably happen sooner than November.. but I'm not 100% sure.

To summarize:
Applicable for Naturalization July 24, 2015.

Vacation to Australia November 8-26, 2015.

Filing location: CSC.

Local Office: Helena, MT (EXTREMELY quiet office).

Can bio/tests/oath ceremonies be rescheduled in these circumstances?

I don't particularly want to wait. I am anxious and excited for my journey to be done and dusted after 5 years (as we all).. there's that huge part of me that has conform in the security that citizenship brings. My job will allow me to work on more projects that are currently restricted to USC's so there's a real benefit from that too.

That being said I don't want to apply and have it be this awful final step of rescheduling and having the drama that goes with that. I want it to be as smooth sailing as possible.

Interested to know your thoughts, sorry for being long winded, as I always am.

I don't have anything to contribute to #2 only because I've not been in that situation, however I can comment about #1.

#1, You will be fine! My now wife (US Citizen) wasn't working at the time of our application so her income was $0, we used her step-father as a co-sponsor who was making only $40k and had no issues! Just make sure the USC still fills in the I-864 and states the income of $0, that's still important. I included a cover letter that briefly explained that my fiancee at the time was out of work and why we were using her step-father as a co-sponsor.

There was absolutely no issues whatsoever. I am from Australia though, you will read quite a lot of opposite information from 'high fraud countries' but luckily neither of us have that to contend with.

PS. 99.99% sure #2 isn't going to be an issue, just be open and honest, that's my recommendation.

I don't like the looks of the USCIS website now. The page had been revamped and I like the old one better. There does not appear to be a status of your case such as "initial review", site only says your case was received and the date.

I didn't like it at first but now I do, from the date the site changed into the future it now tracks the history of the case, not just the current status, very nice feature.

Overall I do like the aesthetics of the new site, I think it was long overdue. Problem with this is I'm sure the bugs in the system will still remain. They put a new mask on the beast, but underneath the beast is still the same!

I'm a web designer and from that perspective anyway it's cleaner and more modern, so that's a good thing.

i could not find my case # status.. i had entered it several times and double checked for typos.

does it mean that it has been transferred to csc? i didn't receive any new case #.

The trackable case number you'll find on your Biometrics Appointment letter, it is not the # that comes with your NOA1. There might be a couple on your biometrics letter; try them all until you see the CRI89 notice, that's you're number. CRI89 is the USCIS' internal reference for the ROC.

I would highly doubt you will get new case numbers based on a transfer. I hear the CSC and VSC do this sort of thing often, and the VSC still usually handles tasks like the biometrics for both CSC and VSC filers.

11/07/2014: Approved, card production ordered

11/13/2014: Card produced and in the mail, no tracking number provided.

UGGGHHHHH! No approval for me yet! On my case status on USCIS website says" On July 17, 2014, we received your Form CRI-89, Petition to Remove Conditions of Permanent Resident Status Received, Receipt Number EACXXX, and sent you the receipt notice that describes how we will process your case. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your receipt notice by August 16, 2014, please call Customer Service..."

Should I start worrying?

To me this looks like your NOA1, did you receive this? biometrics appointment letter?

Also, it's a good idea not to reveal full case numbers on this forum

Also based on your home state, you would have filed to VSC, so no, I wouldn't be worried unless you didn't receive your NOA1 or Biometrics appointment letter.

Haha, I originally assumed I was a July filer because I sent my package off in July. Then I realized much later that someone put themselves on the July filers that actually sent their package off in June but got their NOA1 dated July. oh so confusing. I noticed then that maybe I was indeed an August filer and well that's when I got awfully confused, the result was that I covered both bases and add myself to both.

What is it 'date sent off package' or 'NOA1 date', evidence would suggest the latter based on others, so really I'm an August filer after I assumed I was a July filer!

No, that is their internal code for the I-751, it is also common for the VSC to handle biometrics, even though your actual case is being handled by the CSV

This waiting is killing me!

Applied on July 14th in Vermont Center. Nothing yet!

I hear you! But, be thankful you're not going through I-129F or similar when you're 'stuck' in your own country 'waiting for the day'.

I wish my approval happened right now, but I am thankful other than the stress of 'what if I get an RFE etc.' really this process is uneventful and doesn't change the course of your visa journey.

May not be effecting all people but I definitely think something is up with groups of people and after using the same account in the same manner for 4 years and never receiving that message before (I have been told I had to change my password but only because of the password age).I put this down to more than just coincidence, considering others are affected in the same way.

I am prudent with logging out, every time.

I too got the 'your account needs to be reset message'. Even though I am stringent with logging out and typing the password etc.

I have a sneaking suspicious that maybe, possibly, this could have something to do with The White House being hacked. Maybe a precaution but when they expire everyone's account like this (seems to be what's happened), it's their way of forcing password resets.. hummmm

Anyone else with me on that?

Thanks . . heard all this, right up to the point that you reinforced my point. I will be denied if what you;re saying is true. I haven't filed taxes is 5 years because I've been out of the country and I can't find a way to file them, because no one answers the phone at the IRS. So, it for some reason that is undocumented, I need my tax returns, I'm in serious trouble. Additionally, they aren't even filed until April.I'm hoping she is here before Feb. Otherwise, screw domicile . . I'm out of here.

Tim, the good people here are trying to give you the facts. And the facts aren't always what you want to hear. I unfortunately agree wholeheartedly with Darnell here. There's basic requirements you must meet and I would certainly be following them if my intention was to remain in the US long term. Time goes by fast, I would personally plan for a long and happy future rather than worry about the next few months apart; but that's just me.

I wouldn't worry about that you haven't filed for the last 5 years, rather just concentrate on securing a job between now and interview time. That's what I believe you should be concentrating on.

At the end of the day these are the terms that everyone needs to satisfy, it's just the way it is. The US isn't going to give you a magical pill, that's the sad truth.

Once again, I would stop and analyze your situation, the next few months is going to be the pathway for your future, more so than possibly ever in your life. If you can't do that for any reason, maybe "screw domicile" will be your only option.

Best of luck to you, and I truly hope you make the right decisions that works for you and your partner. It's your lives and you must choose the right destination.

Question for those who have text messaging set up. Approximately what time of the day did you get your text message? I am keen to work out if texts are send out sporadically during the day or if they are pushed together periodically!

Vsc should be closed down If Uscis can't assign more human resources to tackle this shameful backlog smh

I wouldn't call it a shameful backlog. It seems the VSC is running about a month behind their posted schedule (6 months). I think more accurately the CSC is just processing far quicker than anticipated, which is making the VSC look bad!
