  1. I recently Mailed back the RFE, I received from USCIS for my AOS. USPS delivered my RFE return letter to them on March 1 at 4PM however when checking the status on USCIS.GOV It still says RFE sent to me (The status has not been updated to 'RFE Response Review')...

Is this a normal time-lag or should I contact the USCIS to check if they received the letter?

  2. I applied for AOS, EAD and AP at the same time and they where all received on Feb 6, EAD and AP says the status is 'Initial Review' however the AOS application says status as 'Acceptance'. Under that status it says "The acceptance step is typically completed within 2 business days of when the application is received." Now it's Feb 12, clearly more than 2 business days.

Should I be concerned, or is this normal?

  3. Hey VJ'ers

I submitted the package for the NOS waiver of J-1 2 year rule on June 11, and on June 15 DOS received all documents, however my embassy forwarded the NOS letter to them on July 1, but when I check the status of DOS they have NOT YET received the NOS letter from my embassy ?

Does it really take more than 11 days for them to receive it ?

Anyone have any experience in the timeline for NOS to be received by the DOS.

  4. Hey all.

I went to the US to study on a J-1 visa in May 2009. However I was subject to the 2yr-HRR. Now I have 2 questions.

    1. When does the 2 years count from ? The issuance of the J-1 visa or when you entered the US or when you left the US ?

    2. I changed my name since then, and so now I am applying for a K-1 visa, if I am still subject to the HRR, should I not mention my J-1 visa on the DS-230 and DS-156 since the J-1 was using a different name. I mean in order to avoid being subject to HRR ?

    Thanks for your help/advice.

BTW: My interview for K-1 visa is in June, so I don't really have the time and are willing to spend +600$ on a HRR waiver not to mention I heard they take months.
