  1. Just thought it might be helpful for those who are applying for a SSN with EAD and having to go through the DHS verification --

We went to apply for a SSN after 3 weeks the EAD was issued. And were given a letter by SSA telling they would have to verify the documents with DHS, and that which would take up to 4 weeks. Stopped by the SSA after 2 weeks - nothing had been updated and were told to wait another 2 weeks.

We did not get the SS card after 4 weeks. So we emailed SSA online, which was not helpful. And we emailed the USCIS Headquarters Office of Service Center Operations (http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=ddce0b89284a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=ddce0b89284a3210VgnVCM100000b92ca60aRCRD). Got a reply in a couple of days telling our information had been updated in their SAVE system. And we received the SS card the same day.

So if you apply for a SSN with EAD and having to go through the DHS verification, it would be better to wait 4 weeks patiently first. If you did not get the SSN, go back in person to check with SSA. If the verification is still pending after 4 weeks. Email the USCIS Headquarters Office of Service Center Operations.

    Hope it would help...

  2. Smells like you need to get the supervisor and have the supervisor perform a lookup in SAVE.

'They' , alas, have screwed you over.

After we read your posts about SAVE system, we went back to the SS office trying to have them do a lookup. But they said there was nothing they could do but wait after they sent out the verification request. They showed us the computer screen how they precessed the case. It looked like some electronic form. After they put in the information they clicked 'continue' to proceed. It showed that the name, passport number, country, and age were verfied, but not the EAD. It said 'waiting to be verfied by mail G8** something...'

Funny that after she showed us this, she highlighted "it will take within 4 weeks" in the letter that was given to us back on June 07. It has almost been 4 weeks by now... Do you think if an infopass appointment would help if we don't get the SSN in 4 weeks??

Is it true that when your information is in the system and that the SS office could issue your SSN, you would be able to do the SELFCHECK on USCIS website here?? http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=2ec07cd67450d210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=2ec07cd67450d210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD

    Anyone tried this??

  3. SAVE database system isn't new .

    SSA offices use it.

I've been writing about it here for two years.

The PROBLEM is that the front line clerk, 85 percent of the time, either isn't properly trained to do intake for SSN applicants who hold a VISA or EAD, or simply doesn't give a sh|t. 10 times out of 10, when one asks the clerk to LOOK UP the applicant in the SAVE system with the VISA name or VISA Number (A#), the human will be found, or the spelling will be off or the A# is transposed (Thank You clerks at the @#$ing CBP)

So, it's not new. Perhaps newish, let's say this decade, or even this century ..

SSA is required to use SAVE system.

We went back to the SS office to check the status of our case last week. They said they had not heard anything back from DHS. We asked them if they could try looking up the information with the VISA name. They said once the appication is formed there is nothing they could do but wait....

Is it true that when the information is verified, you would be able to do the SELF CHECK on the USCIS website?? We tried the system says 'UNABLE TO PROCEED' even though our EAD has been issued for 5-6 weeks....It is very frustrating...

  4. According to the SS, the holdup isn't on thier end but with USCIS. I have only checked to see where we were at because there were other posts here that said to call after a few days because we could pick up the letter at the office if in and save a few days. Sounds like we will be waiting. Tx.

Did you recieve your SS card yet? We applied for the SSN on the same day as you did with the EAD. Have not heard anything back so far and it has been 3 weeks...

Some people said the SS office will get the verification when you are able to do the Self Check on USCIS website ( http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=2ec07cd67450d210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=2ec07cd67450d210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD). Anyone tried that? We did and it says 'Unable to Proceed"....

  5. Hi all~

We submitted our AOS application in March as well. The case was transfer to California in the end of April. And we got the EAD and AP a bit more than 2 week ago. We went to SS office to apply for a SSN last week. They said that they could not find our information in their system and they needed to verify it with USCIS, which would take about 4 weeks. They gave us a letter stating the same thing with a reference number. Have anyone of you had this? Is there any way to speed up the process as we are waiting for the SSN for insurance and employment. They said the reason they don't have our information in the SS system could be the name change after marriage or USCIS has not updated the status....

I saw some of you got your SSN just a few days after the application. Is our case rare?

    Thanks!!

  6. Hi, sure that is the what they usually tell people except I've not really heard of 4 weeks, they normally say 2 weeks but you end up getting your SSN card within 7 days at most from the day you applied. Sit tight, you should get your SSN card in a couple more days. Best of luck!

But I read some posts (dated back in earlier 2011 and earlier) on here that some people did not get the SSN untill after more than 4 weeks because the process for SS to verify things with HSD is loooooong...if the situation is still like that I hope there is way to speed up the process....

  7. Hi there -

We were googling the regular wait time between packet 3 and interview. To our dismay, it could take up to 60 days before an interview could be scheduled with the US consulate here!

The problem we are facing is that the expiration date on our I-797(NOA2 for our K1 petition) is in less than 2 months, and we didn't get to send back the packet 3 to the consulate till Nov 08. We are worried that if the interview could be conducted before our I-797 expires. Do you guys have any suggestions on what to do? And do you know that how an expired I-797 would affect our case?

    Thank you very much!

  8. Hi all --

We were wondering if it is just us or that if any of you have been in the same situation. We got our NOA1 on May 04. We tried checking our case stutas with the tracking number on our NOA1, but the system says 'case not found'. We called and they said they were having some computer problem, which doesn't make much sense. Do you guys know what really happened as it looks like other people who got their NOA1 in May are all able to check their case status????

Anyone has been in the same situation before? How long did it take for you to be able to check your case status on USCIS.GOV website finally???

    Thank you!!

  9. Did anyone of you try putting in your case number to track the status on USCIS website? Did it get through? The system doesn't look recognize our case number... Also I read about the expiration of the petition here. Does that mean if the application is not approved within a certain time frame and it would get expired??? How does that work?

  10. It has nothing to do with the visa thing. But since we're here, all of us must be in a long distant relationship. Just very curious to know what age group most of us are in?? For us, I'm 37 and she's 32. We met 4 years ago. How about you guys?

  11. Hi all-

I'm new here and am trying to read as much as I can. But could anyone explain to me what are the steps to follow through after getting NOA2? I read that there're Packet 3 and packet 4. What are they? Are all the below documents required for the final interview? (I found them in the step by step guide and realized that we didn't save a copy of the I-129F we sent out. And we thought I-134 would only be required for Ajustment of Status?) Thanks!!!

    1. A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).

    2. Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.

    3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).

    4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is signed, with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.

    5. You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.

    6. A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.

    7. Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).
