Item 1: USCIS location  where you mailed your AOS (not i751)

Item 2: USCIS location who approved your AOS (not i751). Sometimes it could be the service center if approved without an interview or a local uscis field office if interviewed.

Don't want to sound stupid, although I will, How would I find that out? That was a long long time ago lol. I think I may have to go dig in my "Visa Boxes" that I have been holding onto for over a decade.

  2. Hello fellow VJ members,

First I would like to thank in advance all those who answer and put forward recommendations to my questions.

My Green Card will be running out in 5 months time (A little behind I know) and I am looking to renew it rather than become a resident for the time being. I am filling out form I90 and had a few questions regarding what I should enter in some of the boxes.

    1. Box 6.a. In care of name

Would I put my name in this box, even though I am completing the paperwork myself with no help?

    2. Box 6.g. Province  & Box 6.h. Postal Code

Since I have a US address, am I right in saying that these boxes do not need to be filled out?

    3. Part 3 Item 1.

Not real sure what to put in this box, can it be the same as Item 2, In my case I was granted adjustment of status at the USCIS California Service Center?

As always, I am a little nervous submitting forms with mistakes, Especially since I am hoping to go to England (my home country) for Christmas if all goes well under the current world situations we are currently involved in. I would imagine that if the renewed Green Card does not arrive in time for that trip, there would be some temporary documentation I would receive to be able to re enter the States? (Hopeful/Wishful thinking, I know)

I appreciate you and your time,

    Thank You.

  3. Hello to all,

I have a question which I hope I can find some answers here.

I am currently a green card holder and I have been in the US for almost 10 years. I originally came on a K1 Visa.

My UK passport is set to expire in the middle of this year. My question is,

How do I go about renewing my UK passport while being here in the US?

I can get the necessary paperwork sent from the UK, lets say from the Post Office, I can fill out  what i need to do, then send it back and apply that way? I would use my parents address for the paperwork/passport to be delivered there and then they can send me the renewed passport in the mail?

Maybe I answered my question myself, but was wondering if anyone else here has gone through this process and can shed some light on my situation/issue.

Many thanks for the input/responses in advance, much appreciated.

    Thanks.

  4. Hello all,

    Long story short,

I entered the US on a K1 Visa from England back in 2009. The relationship didn't go so well but I did end up staying in the States and received my Green Card. I am now happily remarried and I was hoping to receive some useful information from all you wonderful members on this site who have gone through the process of becoming a US Citizen over renewing your Green Card every 10 years.

I would really like to understand the pros and cons on becoming a US Citizen from peoples experiences who have gone through the same process. My biggest concerns/questions would be about -

Social Security - If I were not to become a US Citizen, would there be an issue later in life to claim the SS that I would have been paying for decades? I've heard different answers/opinions on this subject.

Passports - If I were to become a US Citizen, would I be able to have dual Citizen? Meaning would I have a UK passport as well as a US passport?

Thank You all in advance for your input/answers, it is greatly appreciated.

  5. Thanks so much for the speedy replies.

I am no longer married to the U.S. Citizen, I got married in 2009, so does the 5 years start from then?

So from my understanding, it seems the only perk from becoming a citizen is being able to go back and forth into the U.K. for longer periods of time and making it easier to re enter?

Thanks for the helpful information regarding the Social Security, I would hate to pay into it for so long and not be able to collect when the time comes.

    Thanks again.

  6. Hello all,

    .

    I have a question regarding becoming a U.S citizen.

I currently have a 10 year green card, which I received in 2011 (I think) through the K1 visa. So, 4 years have now passed. I did not apply to become a U.S. citizen, at the time I thought I was giving up my British passport. After a little research, I see that this is not the case. So, seeing as 4 years has gone by, am I still able to apply to become a U.S. citizen? Through the N-400 process?

Also, am I right in saying that if I do not apply to become a U.S. citizen, I lose all my rights to receive my Social Security once I retire? (in many many years to come unfortunately).

Thank you in advance for any kind of reply, please feel free to move my post wherever I will get the best replies/results.

    Thanks.

  7. Hello all,

  8. Hello fellow members,

So I currently have a green card which I gained through a K1 visa. As hard as it is to say still, I got divorced in 2011. I have yet to decide whether or not I want to keep renewing my green card every 10 years or do the paperwork to become a US citizen. I do think about it a lot but never come to a decision.

Anybody have any advice/points/suggestions to help me come to some kind of decision? I tried seeing if there was a forum created that discusses the pros and cons on the subject, I came up empty handed.

So that was one thing on my mind.

Also, I am curious to know what happens now, in the future when I meet someone else who I want to spend the rest of my life with. How much of an issue is it to get remarried to a US citizen while still on a green card (If I choose not to become a US citizen). Does this complicate things? I mean, by no means am I ready to get remarried yet but its something that crosses my mind every once in a while.

So, if anyone has any advice/suggestions on these matters, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thank you in advance.

  9. Hello Fellow VJ Members,

It's been a while since I have been on here so I'm sorry if this post is already somewhere.

I am a green card holder and I'm moving out of my current address to a new location. I was hoping someone could direct me in how and who to notify my new address since I know it is the law to update ones address to the government.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your time.

  10. Hello fellow members,

Just a quick question regarding the paperrwork/evidence I collected and still havin in my posession.

I married a US Citizen 3 years ago but unfotunately things took a turn for the worse and I am now divorced. I have got my 10 year greencard. I was recently going through my HUGE box of Visa paperwork and came across all my sponsors information, personal information that is. Also I still have the copies of all the packages I sent during the K1 process.

My question is, would it be an issue to destroy my ex wifes familys information that they passed on to help with the visa process? I feel as if I no longer need to have that kind of information in my posession. I certainly wouldnt want my information out there (even though I have no intention to do anything with it ) I just want to cover my back and be done with it.

Also, is it advisable to pretty much destroy everything, like the packages from the earlier stages of the process?

Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  11. Hello Fellow Members,

I am looking to get myself a FOID card (Firearm Owners Identification Card). On the application it asks if I am a US Citizen or a naturalized citizen. I am currently a green card holder which I obtained late last year (10 year green card) I obviously know that I am not a US Citizen, so am i classed as a naturalized citizen or am I still classed as an alien? There is a box on the form to put in an alien number but on my green card it no longer shows my alien number.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  12. Thank you for your replies.

I arrived in the US in March of 2009 and maried in April 09. I recently got my 10 year green card in November of 2011. So I would have been in the US for 3 years at the end of March 2012.

Would I be right in saying that I will be a LPR for 3 years in November of 2015? That would be 3 years after i recieved my 10 year green card? Would it be benificial to become a US Citizen or not.

Im not going to lie, its a relief knowing that there are no more packages, paperwork to do. Its been one hell of a ride.

    Thanks again for your replies.

  13. Hello fellow members.

Just a quick question regarding the next steps (If there are any?)

I recently received my 10 year greencard, obtaining it through a K1 Visa. Before I filed the I751 paperwork my marraige ended in divorce. I am curious to know is there a need for me to file the N400 package? I read somewhere that you need ties with an American Citizen in oder to send out this paperwork, not sure if thats true. So if there is anyone out there who can shed some light on this subject it will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

  14. Hello fellow members,

My apologies for not replying to you all sooner, also i would like to say thank you to all for the kind words and the congrats.

Just a quick update on my dates. On my congrats letterr it gives you the decision date, which mine was 11/02/2011. My G/C Admission date is 10/06/2009 which is the date that is on my green card and expires in 11/02/2021. In regards to filling out a timeline, in all honesty im not too sure how to do it, i think the dates updated on this forum give the low down on the timeframe from being sent to being approved?

If anybody has any questions please feel free to ask.

I am trying to figure out what i need to do next, i belive the N400 is next? Things have been quite hectic so i am trying to find the time to sit down in front of the computer and sort it out. If anybody has any info on this it would be greatly appreciated. Again, thank you all for your kind words,

    Good luck to you all

  15. Hello fellow members,

Just a quick question really to anyone who has been on vacation while on an extension of green card (piece of paper)

Im currently going through the process of removing conditions (I-751) and i was hoping to go back to the UK for Christmas for like 10 days. I was just wondering if anyone has had any issues getting back in the US?

Its kinda daunting that all you have is a piece of paper saying that your expired greencard is extended for a year. The People at the airport were bad enough when coming here for a visit, nevermind coming in to stay.

So if anybody has any experience orr knowledgs i would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance

  16. inneedofhelp,

It all depends on the duration of your vacation and which office you filed at.

If your vacation takes a week, I would plan the trip since there is a small chance that your interview would be scheduled during that time.

If it is 2-3 weeks and if you're a VSC filer, then I will also plan the trip (it is usually 5-6 months for VSC to get approval/interview notice).

If it is 2-3 weeks or more and you're a CSC filer, then I wouldn't risk it.

Also check the number of holidays/weekends which falls on your travel time.

Also keep in mind that only 5-10% of all filers get an interview (the percentage is higher for those who filed with waiver).

In my case I'm a May filer at CSC and I haven't received any approval/interview notice yet. I expect to see any kind of update from USCIS during next month. However you never know.

    Thank you for you reply,

The duration of my vacation is going to be about 7 - 10 days, im thinking the dates of 21st December till the 29th. I filed at CSC.

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you for you reply,

The duration of my vacation is going to be about 7 - 10 days, im thinking the dates of 21st December till the 29th. I filed at CSC. So from those dates i imagine USCIS will be closed on the 25th (not sure about any other holidays) and also i will be away for one weekend. so from that i guess out of the 7 - 10 days 3 of the days they will be closed. Yes i am filing individually so im assuming i will be getting an interview.

Also there will be someone here to check my mail.

    Thanks again

  17. Hello fellow members,

I have a question to anybody out there who has been in the same situation or could shed some advice on the matter i have in hand.

I have my biometrics appointment on the 3rd October and i do have the NOA stating that my green card is valid for a year while my paperwork is being processed, which allows me to work and travel with no issues. So my question is, would it be safe to go back to the UK for christmas, which is like 90 days away? I am scared of committing myself to buying a ticket just in case my interview comes up on a date where i will not be in the country.

I looked on the other forums from previous months and it averaged about 3 months to get their interview/green card but after i posted a similar question, someone replied saying it could take up to 8 months to have everything processed or even that long for an interview date.

Im in limbo right now, i really want to surprise my family back home for christmas.

Any advice/comments would be greatly appreciated

    Thank you in advance

  18. biometrics and NOA1 are different letters.

    biometrics is the appointment

NOA1 states on it that they accepted your petition and that they have extended the card for 1 year.

Yeah, i got 2 different letters, the first letter i got is the Notice Of Action, giving me my receipt number and stating that my green card has been extended and that i am authorized to work and travel. So im assuming this is my NOA 1 ?

If this is true, the date on the NOA is 9/9/2011

    Thanks

  19. Hey guys,

Just a quick update, my check was cashed on the 13th, i got my receipt in the mail stating that my green card will be extended a year. Am i right in saying this acts as my green card?

Also today i got my biometrics appointment, the date of the appointment is, 10/03/2011 at 9am. This NOA with the biometrics info on it, is this NOA 1?

If my biometrics is done and i have my receipt letter stating that my greencard has been extended, im thinking im good to go for a visit at Christmas.

Seems to me that they are moving rather quickly, im probably wrong.

If the kind person who updates all the dates could put in my info, i would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks and good luck to us all

  20. ROC can take 5-6 months not 3 months. I have seen some approvals take 8 months or longer too.

Interview already? nooooooope you cannot find out the interview date. You will get an NOA and then you wait for biometrics which is completely based on your ASC center if its busy you could be waiting a long time, if its not busy you could get it quickly. After that you wait even longer to find out if you get an interview!

5-6 months, really? So would it be wise to arrange a vacation back to the UK for Christmas? If its 5-6 months for an answer on the interview then that leaves plenty of time. Thanks for the replies people. Its good to know were not alone going through this

  21. Just a quick update,

My check was cashed on the 13th September, now the long wait proceeds.

Also, a quick question if anyone can help, is there any way of knowing your interview date in advance? I ask this because i was hoping to book a trip back to the UK for Christmas, seeing as I havent seen any of my family in the flesh since my divorce :(

I kind of already know the answer really, im assuming the process takes about 3 months right? so that counts out a trip back then.

    Good luck to us all
