  1. Quick reply.

Your fiance will definitely be allowed in with you but no one else unless you're applying with children.

There is a post office I believe downstairs in the MLC that I think opens at 8am, I got my passport photos done on the spot there. Obviously this would depend what time your interview is but if you go into or call your local post office and ask them if they do American style passport photos they can tell you. Most do but smaller post offices do not. Other alternative is to go into a shopping mall and most fuji, kodak or other camera stores usually offer them.

I would say to dress smart/casual, its not necessary to go in there in business attire unless you have to go to work afterwards. Remember to be calm and just remember you've made it to this point so as long as you have all of your ducks in a row everything should go smoothly.

GOODLUCK and have a GREAT time visiting with your fiance for your engagement party :star: .

  2. Hi There,

I know that going to the interview can be quite nerve wracking, especially with all of the security they have there it can be quite overwhelming but try to keep in mind that you've made it this far and that it most likely will be a very exciting and relieving day. The CO's realize that people will probably be feeling quite anxious but remember they are just there to do their job and they have these same interviews all the time so they've seen it all. It won't hurt to smile and be cheery and overall just tell yourself to relax as much as possible. If you have all of your paperwork in order and you've sent everything off just enjoy the experience. It really won't be as bad as you might think. Oh and also check out the view from the window once you're upstairs in the consulate. Its wicked.

  3. Hey All,

Just an update. We got approved on the spot! The interview went so smoothly and only lasted about 10 minutes all up. He quickly went over our paperwork and everything was in check. He then asked my husband(even though i'm the alien) to explain how we met, where, how long ago, when we decided to get married, where we got married and how life is now that we're married. He didn't ask me any questions which was surprising but I offered up some comments during his questioning which he seemed fine with. I offered to show him our wedding photo album which he said was beautiful as i'm sure he would say to any newly married couple lol and he asked if i would like to submit any paperwork of our joint assets. I gave him our joint bank account statements, our joint phone and cable bills, two joint leases we've had in our relationship, and our joint medical insurance. He didn't even look it all over and then said he was happy to tell us our application was successful and approved and that we will receive my greencard in 3-4 weeks time. An hour after we left we got the email notice from the USCIS for the change in our application. WOOHOO! SOOOO HAPPY! My husband was stunned at how smoothly it all went and surprised that we had put 3 hrs on the parking meter and it only really took 30 minutes from the time we stepped into the building. Overall this has been a great day. THANKYOU so much everyone for your help. And a MASSIVE goodluck to anyone else who has the interviews in the near future. Don't sweat it.

  4. Hi All,

You've all been such a great help throughout our visa journey and we've come to the Interview section. We received the standard letter stating the date and time of our interview etc. The part that has me a little tricked is the checklist of things we are supposed to take. In the sections its saying to bring such and such..... unless already submitted is that actually true that if i sent it with my application i don't need to re submit it or should i just bring the whole AOS packet? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Hi All,

Quick question, I received my advance parole and EAD card in my married name but i have not changed my name back home in Aus yet to get my new passport. I want to book my ticket back to the US but can't because I would need my new passport number. Is it possible if I travel with my marriage certificate and other forms of ID in my married name to enter the country using my Maiden name passport..

  6. Hi everybody..

I started my K1 Visa journey back in APR 2011, I went through the process successfully and married my now husband in November 2011. Soon after we filed for AOS and have been waiting patiently to hear back about the next steps. After being here for a little while, having had an emergency hospital stay, after finding out my mother back in Australia is ill and a general concern for my mental well being my husband and I have decided that we want to move back to Australia. Can anyone give me advice about how I would go about seeking a pardon for my AOS. I do not want to have a ban placed on me because I "abandoned" my applications because I know while we won't want to live here in the USA we will want to visit the various family members and friends we have here.

I don't know if this is even possible, I have searched the forums and come up with nothing. But if anyone can shed some light about what could be done and how I would go about it. I would greatly appreciate the help.

    ThankYou in advance

  7. Hey All,

So my lovely Bear & I got married on Saturday. Our wedding was absolutely amazing and I'm so excited for our lives to begin now that all the chaos has ended. I've been looking through the guides for the AOS process, however I'm a little confused. Do I need to submit evidence of relationship with the forms/paperwork or is that all saved for when I get an interview?

Can someone please clarify this for me please? I want to get this right as we had such a smooth run with our K1 applications.

    Thanks in advance

    Team Bracy

  8. Hey there...

Congratulations on an interview date. Remember to stay calm & be as relaxed as possible. They will of course understand you're nervous but the interview really is so straight forward if everything that you've sent in is in order. I had my interview a week ago and I was so worked up with worry but it did me no good in the end because the guy was very kind and very clear with the questions he asked. TRUST ME they will be questions you will know the answer too..

Anyway Goodluck and I can't wait to read that you're approved & on your way!

  9. Hey All,

We got approved :D *HAPPY DANCE* It was nerve wracking even with everyones reassurance but I did it, and I was approved with everything in order. The Consular officer even commented on how organized & easy my file was to go through because of how detailed we were with sending in everything. I'm SO happy. Thank-You so much Barbara and everyone else for all of your wonderful advice through this process. It has made things so much easier for my fiance and I being able to look up all the little details that have thrown us off at times. *hugs to all of our fellow K1ers*

I booked my flight for next Sunday just to be safe because of the public holiday coming up. Which is good anyway because I'm still needing to tie up some loose ends here. Excited none the less but GOODLUCK to anyone else with upcoming interviews.

Btw to the person who asked where I'm headed - San Francisco will be my new home..

  10. Hi All,

So I'm back again with another question, this time about about sending off my packet three paperwork. So basically I have my medical tomorrow at Dr. Waks in George St Sydney and they've informed me that they will send off the results to the consulate for me. They no longer get you to come in for your own results. So my question is now that they are sending those off for me, when should I send in my other paperwork. The nurse I spoke with said that the test results should be in between 2-4 days, but I figure if i send in my paperwork the consulate can still issue me with an interview date and my medical results will arrive before then anyway...

Can anyone share their advice on what they think I should do?

Thankyou in advance to anyone who replies.

  11. Hi All,

I'm a long time lurker here on visajourney and I'm coming to the last leg of my K1 application. I have my visa medical scheduled for next wednesday but I'm nervous as I don't know what to expect, what happens in the medical, what questions they ask and what tests they do for the bloodwork and x-ray, how long after it's done will it be sent to the consulate and how quickly I could be given an interview?

I've gathered all my vaccination records and recently got bloodwork done to see what boosters I've needed, my family doctor has given me the boosters that were needed. He has also given me a vaccination card with that information.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone who's recently had a medical done at the George Street Medical Centre Sydney could share a little about what to expect at the appointment.

    Thank-You in advance :)
