  2. I'm not familiar with the k-1 process but I'm here in Ankara and did the DCF I-130 with my husband. We sent in out application and it was recieved by the Embassy on May 18th. We got an interview date over the phone when I called to ask about an email I received on the 31st. Now there was 1 Turkish holiday and 1 American holiday in that time, so it took us a total of 7 business days to get our interview. I believe that they do look over your file and decide if you meet income requirements etc before scheduling an interview. If you have any missing documents, they give the chance for you to send them in before scheduling too. Like I said, I know this is how it is for the IR-1 visa but not completely familiar with the K-1/K-3 visas any longer. The best thing to do is give it 2 weeks/14 business days, and then you can always send an inquiry through the US embassy website in Ankara. I know they are probably pretty familiar with me by now with all the questions I asked lol. Good Luck!!! Ankara Embassy is really good too though, they seem to be very nice.

  3. My husband and I are still in the process of our Direct Consular Filing case-We filed I-130 and have our interview in July Thank God!

The thing is, if all goes well and e do go to the USA, we are wanting to start college next year. I know that when I and my friend agreed to sponsor my husband we signed the paper saying we wont recieve any government aid. So is filling out the Fafsa for financial aid for college considered in this? I'm just wondering because according to the college we are looking at, we have to fill out the Fafsa in order to apply for scholarships. We don't necessarily want the financial aid if we can avoid it through saving, but I was wondering if financial aid for college is considered in that. I read a lot of greencard holders get financial aid for college, and I was wondering how that effects the contract with the US.

If anyone knows, it'd be great to know lol Thanks!

  4. Today I got an email from the embassy with a response to one of my inquiries about my application which I made last week. In their response they said they didn't have my application at all, and that the person didn't know what DCF was. etc. Really worried me, so I called the Embassy. For the first time in 2 years I managed to reach the Embassy consulate sector without spending hours trying (just to give up from constant busy signals). The lady was very kind as I explained as calmly as possible what I was told in the email. I was on the brink of a severe panic attack, but managed to keep my cool. She was very helpful, and found out that not only did they recieve our application but they had also given us an interview date for July 12th!! WOW!!

So that makes it officially 6 business days from application recieved to receiving a scheduled interview date! That was fast!!! My husband and I cried not only from relief that our application wasn't lost but from such joy that we had our interview date after years of dealing with this. Such great relief. =D

  5. If she only has to be there for 90 days in order to fullfill their residency requirement to file, then she could ask her company for a temporary leave of absense for an extended period as pregnant women do for maternity absense. If she has been with the company for a while, and they value her, then they could allow it with an Employment letter stating she still has a place within the company and how much she earns. She will need to show her W2'S and paystubs to show she is still earning from them. You could even have them write a letter stating that she is on temporary leave of absence but she is still employed with the company. So since she has a stable job there she may actually be able to keep it.

Now for the domicile, what she needs to do is have her sister either add her onto any lease she may have (if she has an apartment) or Have a written statement notified that her permanent address is with her sister at (address) and this will be her residence upon returning to the USA. I had to do this for my childrens school when I was living with a friend, and it's a perfectly legal thing, and accepted. So this could be the domicile if she gets the notified letter, and also changes her drivers lisence address and bank address over to her sisters address so they all match.

Her US bank account, Any Bills she may have in her name, Her Drivers Lisence, Her US voting registration, all of these will help her prove domicile.

Now to prove your relationship, you need to dig up ANYTHİNG that will show the legitimacy of your relationship. Letters, phone bills, emails, pictures, reciepts for gifts, plane tickets, anything will do. If you dont have any, then you need to start documenting your 'time' together whether it's on the phone, internet, or anything. If you see eachother via webcam, take screen shots of you two chatting with the video open so they can see how you two talk. Get more pictures of you two together. For your wedding, you can have a civil ceremony, and if they ask why her parents were not there be honest and say they dont aprove of your religion, but you hope that in the future their heart will soften as they get to know you more. This will show your interest in building a relationship with her family. Get a TON of pictures of the wedding, be it at a church or civil, and be sure to invite friends from both sides as guests if possible. Have her friends write statements about what they have witnessed with your relationship together, and have your friends write statements too.

Don't think any of it is too much. My husband and I have been documentning everything since Day one. We're super sentimental so it wasn't hard. Just save anything so they dont have any excuse to deny you both.

Hope this helps and Good Luck!

  6. Hi! I am new to visajourney and have a few questions for those of you who have filed DCF. We sent our application in yesterday and it arrived today Thank God, but I'm hoping they dont give me a hard time about domicile.

I sent a letter explaining domicile for No.15 on the I-864 stating how I've kept up with my US bank account, and giving various proofs of intention to return like Emails regarding apartment searches, emails regarding inquiry into colleges from last year, copies of my ACT exam scores and reciept which I took in Ankara last October, and things like this. In the emails it clearly states that we are looking to come to the USA in August-September of this year, even the emails from colleges show my interest in registering for college this comming fall. Do you think this will be enough? I gave a signed statement that I promise to return to the USA no later than the date of my husbands US entry if his application is aproved.

Also, My friend is our joint-sponsor, and she's in the middle of a move, we sent in the application before her planned move date, but we're worried that her move could effect the paperwork since she would't be able to send in another I-864 anytime soon. The Embassy emailed us about an inquiry I had about the time it takes to get an appointment date (the waiting period) and they said as of right now they are doing interviews for June, but depending on when they recieve our application it could be in July. (We sent application same day, yesterday and they got it today) Do you think we should just wait for the aproval and have her report her address afterwards? It would be within 30 days. She will also be changing jobs in about a month, when is she suppose to report that? She will be earning the same pay, just a different job, Is there a certain time limit she has to report a new job and a move? For example 10 days from the start day?

It's been a very interesting process and we're hoping that the Embassy gives us our interview date before she makes her changes.

If anyone can give any advice or share their personal experience I would be most grateful!
