  1. Hello everyone,

I'm the US citizen and I'm petitioning my father who lives in Colombia. Last week I received the NVC welcome letter informing me of the next steps to follow. they also included the document cover sheet and a list of required documents. for 1. photocopies of supporting documents: valid unexpired passport, birth certificate, court records, etc... (Are those documents required from the beneficiary , my dad? 2. signed affidavit of support = proof of US status, petitioner civil documents(what is that?) proof of relationship (only for 1-864A) is that the USCIS approved I-131 ???? please someone help me

    Attached is the document list.

    Thank you

  2. Hi all,

I'm about to start the process of petition my father, I am the USC and he lives in Colombia.

Just want to make sure I have all the documents and would appreciate if you guys can help me. Also, My father came with a visa back in 1999, and overstayed and left the country in 2004. Do I need to mention that in the cover letter??

This is the document check list

    • Form l-130
    • Citizenship certificate
    • marriage certificate (proof of last name change)
    • birth certificate
    • birth certificate translation
    • parents marriage certificate
    • parents divorce certificate
    • dad's birth certificate
    • dad's birth certificate translation.

Is there anything else that I'm missing? do I need to file the affidavit of support as well? and lastly, do I need to send passport photos of myself and father?

    Thank you

  3. Hi everyone,

I'm US Citizen and I want to bring my father from Colombia to the US. I want to know what are the stages? from what I read, I need to file form I-130 first and then wait for a visa interview for him in colombia? if he gets an interview what he should bring to the interview? and after that what would happen? once he is here Am i going to need to file I-485? My father came with a visa back in 1999 and he overstayed for 3-4 years then he went back to colombia and has lived there ever since 2003. Also, I live in California and he would be living in another state (NJ) where he has connections to start a new job . I need to know what are the stages, required documents and if the 2 factors I mentioned early will affect the case? Thanks in advance :goofy:

  4. I'm in the process of becoming a US citizen and I already passed the interview, now just waiting for the ceremony oath. Anyway, once I become a citizen I want to petition my mother. She already lives in US and came with a tourist visa and her visa is expired. From what I've read I will need to send I-130 and I-485 forms, however I'm not sure what option should i select for I-485 Part 2 (application type) I can't find the option that states that she is the parent of a US citizen.

    Thank you

  14. hey guys im a may filer, but i had my interview yesterday. the IO said that we will get an answer within 30 days. and 3 hours after our interview i received an email from USCIS:

Application Type: I485 , APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Your Case Status: Card/ Document Production

On July 20, 2011, we ordered production of your new card.

Application Type: I130 , IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN

    Your Case Status: Initial Review

Your case is currently undergoing a required review by an immigration services officer.

we are very confused, did we get approved? has anyone experience this?

    Thank you

  15. i really hope so!!!!! i even have hair loss because of this stressful waiting period..ok guys i will continue with my interview: the IO have an accent and i got confused a few times i wasnt able to understand him 100% . First he made us swore that we are telling the truth and bla bla. and after that he opened my AOS package and asked all the questions, where i was born, DOB, the yes/no questions. my hubby is a full time student and his paid intern with NASA ended last month and since i just got my EAD 2 days ago im not employed and he made a comment about it, how come are living with bein unemployed. but trust me he was very very sarcastic with that and the rest of his questions. but my hubby and i were calm and had a natural attitude. after we was finished with my AOS package he asked us why is our attorney not present? we cant afford to pay his fee to be with us now, we answered. Next he asked us about how we met, and he interrupted me every 2 mins . we show him our lease agreement, bank statements and he added "oh anyone can go to a bank to add a person, and it doesnt mean thats joint account" he had comments and questions to everything we said and showed him.. and after that i gave him our photo album, and we do have our pics of the two of us, our marriage was at city hall with my mom, sister and best friend coming from NJ. he asked who was each person and ended up with this comment" Anybody can take photos saying they have a bonafide marriage, and fake it" when he said that i was oh Good lord you know our love is truth and thats all it matters. in other words my friends , he made us feel like we were not telling the truth, he asked lots of tricky questions and did not stop being sarcastic i know thats his job, he took my 1-94 and i told him i have a few job interviews for this week and he said back" you can have it, i wasnt planning to take it" i dont know he was expected us to get nervious because of his attitude but we were very natural. and the IO finished saying that if im approved i must file remove conditions after 2 years. and that we will get an answer within 30 days i think. the interview was stressful , we are a young couple which means we dont have a lot of money and are trying to get our BS degree.we only have one bank account, well my friends that was my day , it wasnt easy, the IO didnt made it easy, of course thats his job and i trust God has everything under control. as i wrote before my interview was at 1:30 ( it was 40 mins long) and a hour ago we received two emails from uscis:

I130 , IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN

    Your Case Status: Initial Review

Your case is currently undergoing a required review by an immigration services officer

prep mac, and to all of you really THANKS!!!!!! for the prayers and to share your stories as well.
