  1. Hello Everyone -

I had my naturalization interview last week in Fairfax, VA office. It was a 5 minute interview, I had my appointment for 8:20 a.m. and I was called at 8:22 by the IO. The IO was a fairly young male in his mid 30's, he introduced himself on the door and than again when we got in the office. There was another officer with him who was in training, IO introduced that officer as well. The officer began with N400 application, asking usual stuff like address, phone number, etc. Asked for my passport, green card and drivers license - he also saw my selective service registration card and matched the number I provided in the application. After that he gave me a line to read, which was:

What is the capital of USA?

    and asked me to write:

The capital of United States is Washington D.C.

Than he asked me 6 simple civic questions

    1. What is the supreme law of the land?

    2. What is an amendment?

    3. When was the constitution written?

    4. What is the rule of law?

    5. Who makes Federal laws?

    6. Who wrote the Declaration of Independence?

After that he stopped and said Congratulations you have passed the test and asked if I was available that day for the Oath Ceremony. He scheduled me for the same day Oath ceremony at 2:00 and told me to report at 1:00 p.m. I was out of the office in a total of 30 minutes in the morning and returned back at 1:00 p.m. I applied for the N400 in the first week of March and was fingerprinted mid April.

I took the Oath the same day and got my certificate. I will be applying for the passport book pretty soon. How long does it take to get the passport if you expedite the process, does anyone knows? and how can I find out which Postal offices accepts passport applications.

  2. Sounds like we applied around the same time, mid March, and I just received my interview letter less than a week ago, also for Fairfax, so hang in there - I'm sure your interview letter will arrive very soon!

Thank you guys for your suggestions. Penguin, yes it looks like we applied around the same time, I am also hoping to get something soon. Let see what happens - Fairfax is little behind comparing to the other office, I think. Once I get the letter in the mail I will update you guys and thanks again for the advices.

  3. Hello everyone -

It is been more than 3 months that I did my fingerprinting - it was somewhere around April 25th and I've been in line for interview since than. My status changed I guess the next day and after a week or in the beginning of May I received a yellow letter. It is almost being more then 4 months in total, I sent my application mid of March and still I haven't receive my interview date. Should I call them now or request an info pass? what is an info pass? and how can I get one? is it even helpful or not? or I should just keep waiting for the letter? Thanks very much for your help in advance.

  4. Thank you Bob and Kelly for your replies. I will pass this information to my friend - who called me last night and said that some cop he knows who is his customer for a long time and know the owners personally assured him that he can go with him to the court and tell the judge that this was an 'unintentional' mistake. Thank you again.

  5. Ok Thank you for your advise. You think he should consult an immigration lawyer now before he goes to the court? or you think he should consult a criminal attorney? I really feel bad for him that he got in trouble of something he never meant to do. He himself don't even drink alcohol - before this he got 2 green cards from the cops. You get these green cards when cops try to bust you and you ID the minor kids and they congratulate you saying that you are doing a great job. But this time, he was too busy at that moment and he kid didn't looked like a minor. Anyway, the cop he gave him the ticket said that don't worry about it the judge will probably give you some community work, lol.

I was wondering if anyone has been in this kind of situation before and what did the judge said to them. Thanks

  6. Hello Everyone -

I am not sure if i am posting this in a the right section, please let me know if I am not. This is regarding my very dear friend who works at a gas station part time and goes to college. On Thursday he got a ticket on selling beer to a minor - he is a shift in charge in the store and he was busy closing the registers and changing the shift. The store was very busy that night as it was Memorial day weekend and then in all this the cops sent a kid to buy some beer. My friend said that the kid was very tall and looked over the age to buy beer, unfortunately, he was not. The cop gave my friend a ticket and told him to appear in the court. This is the first time he got a ticket in his life in USA, he is a very nice person and I feel really sad that this happened with him. On the ticket it says that the charge is criminal - he will be eligible to apply for his US citizenship later this year, how would that effect his application and what should he do? His owner said that he will talk to a criminal lawyer to see what this is all about. They both have received this kind of ticket for the first time.

Any advice in this matter will be appreciated - thanks!

  7. I guess I got someone in a good mood. After she went through her spiel of reading to me the same thing that I see when I check my status online, I asked her if it would be possible for me to speak with a level 2 officer. I told her that I heard that they have more access to more information, and that since I had completed my fingerprints over a month ago, I would love to check if my case has been transferred yet. And she transferred me.

You were lucky then - hopefully you'll get some kind of update within a week or so.

My status changed to 'Testing and Interview' last week, but it doesn't mention that if my case has been transferred to the local office so I called in to check with them and got stuck with the Tier 1. Who kept replying the same thing over and over again, lol.

    My status is : -

On May 9, 2011, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling. When scheduling is complete, you will receive a written notice with a time and place for your interview. Please check the website for further updates on your case. If you move, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address.

I filed in March so I'm thinking I will be waiting for a long time before I get an interview letter, since there are so many people who applied before me have been waiting for the Interview date as well.

  8. I spoke to a level 2 person last week Wednesday and was told that my file had been transferred to the local office and was in queue for scheduling. No update online still...it still refers to them mailing me my fingerprint notice.

Your status will be updated by this week or the next N400. How did you talk to the tier 2 person - the first level people just don't transfer my call. What did you say to them?

  9. YES, I AM VERY EXCITED! And nervous about the Civic Test at the same time... I also thought it was pretty quick, but until I got the interview done and then sworn in, I am not going to get so hyped about the processing. You'll never know what lies ahead... But I'm praying for a smooth journey :P

After receiving an update that my case is under interview scheduling, I got another update and this is what it said:

    Testing and Interview

Your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION is now scheduled for interview. You will receive a written notice with a time and place for your interview. You should receive this notice within 14 days.

And then today, the appointment letter was in the mail.

Yes I'm sure the test will go smooth for you and I wish you good luck. Don't worry about it, just prepare for the test and it will be a smooth interview. Wow you were very quick - I applied a month before you and still waiting for the interview letter, lol

  10. Received my Interview appointment letter in the mail for June 21, 2011 at 9:30am. YAY!!! Just 3 days ago they told me that they already scheduled me for an interview and testing :) Looks like my Local Office ain't too busy.

    GOODLUCK TO US ALL!

WOW that was so quick - it is awesome congratulations :D You must be so excited :) does your status says that your case has been transferred to the local office? My status never changed after 'your are in line for an interview'.

  11. Since we're in the same area - who did you schedule the info pass with - the Alexandria office where we get FP done?

Thanks - will be inetresting to hear what they tell you - wonder if FAIRFAX is backed up.

I wonder who schedules the interview - does the service center do that? or the local office schedules the interview. I always thought that the service center schedules the interview once the person is cleared from the FBI and then they transfer the case to the local office?

  12. negative.. still waiting.. i think i am going crazy lol i dreamed that I received the IL... lol.. I scheduled Infopass to see what is happeneing with my case.

When is your appointment - Is your fingerprinting completed and they send it back to USCIS. I waited 5 years for this patiently but now it is hard to wait anymore, lol.

  13. Same thing with me, except mine was May 9th for the first update and then May 10th for the second one... Still waiting for my interview appointment.

That is great, congratulations to both of you. I never got the second email yet, people who applied before me are also still waiting for their interviews. It looks like USCIS changed their way of updating status - my brother applied for citizenship last year and when his status went to 'Testing and Interview' he received the letter in 3 days and this is when his status said that his case has been transferred to the local office. Thanks for your reply!

  14. 05/10/2011 statut update: case inline for interview

05/11/2011 status update: interview was scheduled and should receive the I'LL. Withing next 14 days

It is moving faster than I thought. Thanks to the early wakl in FP.

Good luck to everyone. Hope you guys get some good news soon

When did your status changed to 'Testing and Interview'? On the 10th or the 11th - My status is 'Testing and Interview' but it says that I am in the line so I'm not sure if I need to wait for the status to update again before they will send out the letter. Oh well - I guess I have to wait.

  15. Our interview experience...

We arrived about 30 mins before the scheduled time. Passed thro' metal detectors, our interview letter was collected and in about 10 mins our names were called. Only my spouse was allowed to go-in.

Went thro' all the questions from N-400, asked if we were married all the while? separated anytime? filed taxes jointly?..did not ask to see any of the supporting documents we carried.

    Following questions were asked:

    1. What do we call the first ten amendments to the Constitution?

    2. Name of the speaker of the house of Representatives?

    3. Who lived in American before the Europeans arrived?

    4. When was the Declaration of Independence adopted?

    5. Name one of the two longest rivers in the US?

    6. Why does the flag have 13 stripes?

and followed by a short written test.

Received form N-652 and a note that "A decision cannot yet be made about your application"

I guess we just have to wait now.

Congratulations second_stage looks like your Interview went well and you should be a US Citizen soon.

  16. My online status says the same thing. Giddy with excitement. I set up for email and text updatesbut I have never gotten any, so I just check it online. I will post as soon as I hear anything as well.

That is great - at least we know one thing that we've passed the security check. I hope we get our letters soon!

  17. On May 9, 2011, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling. When scheduling is complete, you will receive a written notice with a time and place for your interview.this is my status on USCIS.gov page

I also received this email on the 9th, however, it doesn't say that the case was transferred to my local office. I am not sure if I should expect a letter soon or they will transfer the case first to my local office and they are the people who will schedule my interview. I was reading some post on this forum where a person got this same status notification and he received his letter after 8 weeks. Please let me know if you hear anything from them natashenika.
