I am flying to Vegas on Sunday from Texas and my green card expires on Sunday. I have my NOA, do I need to carry this with me or do I just need my drivers license? I wasn't sure I would need anything else since my green card has expired.
Thanks
-
Thanks! As far as evidence I'm submitting, does it look sufficient?
-
The reason I'm asking is because it didn't say anything on the reminder that I received from USCIS.
So far I have:
Mortgage documents
Checking and saving statements
Investment statements
Home insurance papers
Retirement that shows us as being beneficiaries
Flight tickets to our upcoming trip to Scotland
Tax statements showing we filed jointly the last two years (Been married since August '13)

I'm in the same situation. My license expired on Friday and they won't let me renew it until I get my green card which is on it's way. I went to renew my license a few weeks ago and they let me renew it but it had the same expiration date as the one I already had.

Congratulations. Rangers_texas. It is a norm that sometimes they don't approve on the spot. The most important thing is that they eventually approve it like it happened in your case. I guess you can now have a breath of fresh air.
Well the next day it changed back to decision by my I-130 changed to post decision activity?!
-
The opposite is happening with me lol. I have my I-130 approved and I-485 still in decision even though I technically have the green card stamped on my passport. Im not sure if they ordered it or not! or maybe the system online is just not updated. Congrats to you. The big part of it is done and one or two weeks wait for the actual GC is not a big deal as long as you got approved there even verbally. Its still counts as approval.
I didn't get approved at the interview, I checked my status this morning and it said card production.
-
Thanks everyone and congrats to you rangers-texas. I will pray for you. Let us know how it went
Unfortunately I wasn't as successful as you, I had to wait 20 hours for my approval!
Everything went well, interview lasted 15 minutes, didn't keep any of our stuff.
My only question is this, why is the I-130 status still at initial review even though the I-485 is at card/document production?
-
I have mine tomorrow, hopefully it'll be as successful!

Did you make a copy of everything you sent in the packet? If so then take it & any other evidence you may have got since you sent it, also any photos you have.
Brian
I've updated all the forms we sent and will print them and take them. Do I need to take passport photos if I already submitted them? I have a bunch of photos of us with each others family and the trips we've had. Also have flight tickets from when me and my wife went to Scotland for Christmas.
-
Do I need to take the affidavit of support if I already submitted it with my packet? What about passport photos? I submitted them with my packet as well.
-
I'm looking forward to the end of this process! What can I expect with the interview? I have plenty of evidence (flights tickets from when my wife came to Scotland with me, photos etc) so I'm not worried about having to prove anything. Whats the chances of it being granted there and then?

If you're approved on the day then you should ask for an I-551 passport stamp, which will serve as temporary proof of a green card and would allow you to keep working. Sometimes they will do this, sometimes they won't, but if you spread it on thick and tell them how your OPT is expiring in two days then there's a chance they'll do it for you then. If not, you'll have to take a temporary leave once your OPT expires until your green card arrives in the mail, which, if you're approved at the interview, should be around 7 - 10 days.
Thanks, i'll do it.
-
No. You could have applied for an EAD based on your pending I-485, would have received it within 90 days of application and then could have worked for whomever you wished instead of needing to use your OPT (and only be able to work for certain employers) but if your interview is around the corner then it's pointless now.
Once you have your green card then you won't need an EAD, a green card accords you employment authorisation by itself.
Right, but my OPT expires two days after my interview.
-
I didn't submit an i-765. I have my interview on Feb 12th for green card, if that gets granted there and then do i need to wait on my Green Card for an EAD?
-
You will have one receipt number for the I-130, one for the I-485, and one each for the I-131 and I-765 if you filed them.
I only have a receipt number for i-130 and i-485. I am on OPT right now.
-
The I-765 status should.
I have the status for i-485 and i-130?
-
Will my case status change when my work permit is sent out?
-
Well my status says my interview notice was mailed out and my interview will be on February 12th!!! I'm excited, can't wait for our interview. Got plenty of evidence so it should get approved there and then.
-
Yes! But it depend how busy. I got mine aproved only 2 months
My question is from the time your case status changes to "Testing and interview"
-
Usuallly take 90 days, but my EAD was apvored about 2 months!
Isn't it 90 days from the notice of receipt?
-
My status changed to testing and interview last week and it says I should receive my interview date within the next 30 days, when should I receive my work permit???
Thanks

Is it possible to just go to your local office & do a walk in Biometrics?
We have an appointment but we can not make it on the date they have sent.
So do we just turn up & hope they will do it?
Has anyone done a walk in at the Fairfax VA office?
Thanks
I did a walk in easily at my local office, think it depends on the office but it's worth a go.

I received a RFE because I only included my W2. I had to send off an explanation as to why I didn't file tax return. I didn't make enough, I was doing an internship (CPT visa) and barely made anything.
-
Because that's not all they asked for. And it's actually in the I-864 instructions, not the I-130 or I-485. I knew it was one of them.
I sent of an explanation as to why I didn't file and also my CPT employment document as they asked for that too. Hopefully that's all they need!

I always carry my Green Card. I was just wondering if I needed to carry the NOA. Will a copy work or does it need to be the original?
