  1. Hello everyone,

I'm going to give as much detail as possible, as well as try to keep a long story short.

I got married in January of 2011. Got my first "green card", and after two years, I got the 10 year "green card". It was a legit marriage (for love, not just for documents), but that unfortunately didn't work, even though I tried as much as I could.

In February of this year (2014), I moved out. I now live on my own, paying my own rent, and the only thing we still have attached to each other are: health insurance, car insurance, cell phone plan, and taxes. We don't have a joint account anymore.

After thinking for a while, I decided I wanted to apply for the citizenship. I haven't done so yet, exactly because I have doubts as far as being married.

    My questions are:

    - Is it worth it to do it now, while we're still married, even though living separatedly? Or is it better to get a divorce first?

    - If I do apply while still married, the fact that we don't live together anymore, will it influence the situation somehow?

    - If I apply after getting a divorce, will that make my case more difficult?

My (ex)husband and I are not in the best terms. We talk (we share custody of our dog - I know, it's lame haha), he gets his check every month (for all the things I mentioned above - insirances, etc) and we even tried working on our relationship after I moved out, but it did not work on my part, so he has bad feelings towards me. So I don't think he would do anything to really "help me out" if he knew he could get in trouble for it.

Any insights are appreciated. Thank you in advance

  2. You will probably receive an RFE about this when your case is adjudicated in 6-8 months from filing. Or it may fall off their radar and not send an RFE at all. Either case you'll have to wait and see what happens, but I don't see any reason to worry.

I would suggest you call 1 (800) number and let them know how can you communicate with USCIS about this. If a phone call would work for you, it's definitely better than getting RFE that will drag your case 2/3 months further more.

    Good Luck!

Thank you guys for the help. I did call them and they told me to write a cover letter to the office on which I applied (which would be the California one) explaining the situation and attach the forgetten list of addresses to it.

She told me to put all details, aside of my name and address, also the receipt number. If anyone else is interested, I can attatch the letter so if this happens to anyone else, it can be used as an example.

DNIEPU, when I get home from work I'll confirm all the dates and will definitely add myself to the tracking list. Thank you for telling me about it. :)

  3. Hi everyone!

I filled at the end of April and got all the letters they usually send (year extension and biometrics appointment), but I noticed one thing. When I filled, I forgot to attach a list of previous addresses where I lived since I became a resident.

They never mailed me about the subject and I didn't recieve my whole package back (like it usually happens when you forget something or when something goes wrong with your application).

Should I be worried? My biometrics is happening on Thursday.

  4. So, I've got the EXACT same thing, but the thing for me is, I never got a receipt number. I sent my application exactly a month and a week ago. Last week I called telling them how it's been a month and I've never got a receipt number, they asked for my info and said they still didn't get anything and to try again in 2 weeks because they were having some "delays".

Today I check my mail and got the I-797C, letting me know that I didn't have to submit the payment for the I-765 and they returned my money order. So they sent me the same thing as the friend above, saying no action was required but also to submit the right stuff (?), and the green paper as well. But the thing is, together they also sent me back a copy of my G-1145, which is the e-notification. So I didn't understand that, and called them to ask. Now see, my english is pretty much excellent and I cant talk one-on-one LIVE with anyone. But when it comes to talking on the phone to someone with a thick accent, I can't understand a thing. The girl was SUPER nice to me, she really tried to help me out, but i just couldn't understand a word she was saying. :(

It's really bugging me because I never got a receipt number in the first place, but they sent me this stuff back, so I just don't know what to do. My stuff is in the Chicago office.

Can anyone help? Please? :( I feel like the dumbest person on earth! My husband is still at work and I'm gonna see if I get him to call since he's american and SHOULD be able to understand everything haha. But if anyone can help me here I'd appreciate it!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
