  1. Hi VJers,

Due to some issues with our co-sponsor, we were unable to get our AOS packet ready to send as quickly as we had hoped. Finally our co-sponsor signed and we have all the paperwork and we are basically ready to send the packet BUT the problem is that now we have to move this weekend (I am a graduate student and was offered a job in a different city for the summer).

We of course want to send the packet asap; it has almost been three months since my husband entered the U.S. Our current address is on all the paperwork in the packet. How bad is it if I send the packet and then move? I know I have to report our change of address somewhere...I was of course going to have the post office forward our mail.

Thoughts, suggestions? Has anyone had any experience with this? Thanks so much in advance!

    Rory and Guillermo

  2. Thank you everyone, so much, for your help.

Pooh Pee, you are right, thank you. I also found this: http://www.smf.juarez-mexico.com/index.php?action=printpage%3Btopic%3D29310.0 which has a copy of an instructions page which my fiance misplaced without reading/understanding, apparently.

I am frustrated that no one at the embassay or at the puete that we spoke to was able to give us this information. But I am so relieved it got resolved with no change in travel plans needed.

$6 to enter the U.S.? Good to know.

Thank you again, everyone. Your input is invaluable and greatly appreciated!

  3. I have not heard of the visa being marked with a certain POE before. My husband's K-1 has no POE on it. His POE was Atlanta. I know they had info there on a letter that was with the packet when you pick up the visa from DHL that lists info about going through the 2 designated bridges, but it was not required that you use one of those. This is the first I have heard of them assigning you a POE and actually listing it on the visa. It was always my understanding that you could use any POE, like everyone else can, when getting a K-1 through CDJ.

Perhaps call the consulate and ask them about the notation. Ask them if you HAVE to use a certain POE when entering the US, and if you HAVE to use the one listed on your visa. Also, ask when they started doing that; the assigning and notating of it on the actual visa. Post back with any info you can muster up. I am quite interested, and it might help others in the future too.

Thank you for your reply and I am glad that you have not heard of this either because I was totally confused. I had no idea. It does not make sense to me that they would go through the trouble of sending the visa to the person just to have that person have to go back to a specific point anyway. I called the Texas side and the guy told me that he has to come through there so that they could "finish processing his packet." I clarfied that it had to be at that POE, that they could not do it anywhere else and it could not be changed and he said no. He was not very helpful and pretty abrupt, I wanted some explanation but he was unable to provide me with any information. My fiance called the emabjada in Ciudad Juarez and said he spoke to 3 different people who all said the same thing.

Besides the inconvenience of having to change around a plane ticket, I am totally at a loss as to how I should plan his trip. I have never crossed the Mexican border on foot and it seems like a lot of unnecessary hassle (I am in Seattle). I don't know if anyone else has had experience with this?

  4. Hi TBone,

Thank you for your help! We called and he does in fact have to enter at Yselta Zaragoza, it cannot be changed. This is a pain since we have to change his ticket now too, but better now than later, right? I am unfamiliar with the area...are there airports on the Texas side close by? Or what would you recommend in terms of entering and leaving the POE?

    Thanks again!

  5. Hello,

My fiance was looking at his visa today and saw a line that said "presente su visa en el puente isleta zaragoza." Does this mean he must enter the U.S. there? We have already purchased a plane ticket in which his POE would be Houston. If this is the case I feel so stupid I didn't know that. We are both stressing as his ticket was purchased for March 20th.

Any information or direction is much appreciated!

  6. Ignore BOING, he can't seem to help himself when it comes to saying things about Juarez.

    Anyway to answer your questions:

    1. Yes that is packet 3

    2. You only need the I-134, the 864 is for once you guys are in the US and are going to adjust status. So you are fine!

    3. I'm sure that those requirements are for people who are only going to visit the US. Your fiances passport doesn't expire for a year, which is fine. And yes at some point you'll have to get a renewal in the US through a Mexican consulate if he doesn't come back to Mexico before then to renew it.

    4. You are correct, his birth certificate does NOT need to be translated.

Goodluck, I'm sure you guys will do great :)

  7. Hello all!

My fiancé and I are trying to get everything organized for his interview in Juarez, but there are a few things we are not sure about…any answers/insight would be much appreciated!

-Is the appointment letter the letter that reads “Estimado ____: Your finace visa case is now ready for processing. Please go to…” and is from 'Chief, Immigrant Visa Branch'?

-When we received our NOA2 I went ahead and filled out the I-134 and collected tax transcripts, pay stubs, etc, but then I see people talking about the I-864 and I am confused as to which affidavit of support is to be used at this stage – the I-134 or I-864?

-The consulate info page says his passport must have a validity date at least six months beyond his intended period of stay in the U.S. His passport expires 7/2012 and he intends to stay beyond that date, but I was under the impression we could get his passport renewed in the U.S. at a Mexican consulate. Does he need to get a new passport before the interview?

-If I understand correctly his birth certificate does NOT need to be translated – is that correct?

    Thanks in advance!

  8. I appreciate the wealth of information this website has provided throughout my visa journey. Thank you!

I need help. I have been trying for two weeks to obtain the Invoice ID number so that my fiance can fill out the DS-260. I made an MRV fee payment over the phone and I copied down the reciept number they gave me (when I tried to hear it again to confirm the number, the call got cut off), but the number I copied down doesn't work with the case number when we try to sign in to fill out the DS-260. Am I correct that the receipt number they give you when you make the payment is the Invoice ID number?

I called the embassay and they told me send an email to contactus_en_MX@usvisa-info.com, which I did and they promptly replied asking me to provide information re: last digits of credit card, date payment was made, etc., which I did. After that, I never heard anything back. I waited a week and wrote again and this time they wrote back telling me that they in fact couldn't help me with this and that I need to contact the Department of State by which I believe they mean the NVC.

This wouldn't be so bad except I saw that our NOA2 has an expiration date of 09/19/2011.

I did write an email to the NVC inquiry address, but has anyone had any experience with this? I just need that number. My bank statement reflects that the payment was made. I am sick to my stomach because I am terrified we won't get this all resolved before our expiration date. I don't know what to do.
