No you have to wait for the NOA2 in order to move forward with the interview. After you get the NOA2 then your info goes to NVC then to the embassy. Once at the embassy you will send them part 1 of the DS-230 then at that point the embassy will give you an interview date.
I didn't use a lawyer. You should be able to do fine by yourself. Just make sure you pay attention to detail.

I had the same exact issue with the US Embassy in JA. My fiance was told that packet 3 was sent on May 16 and didnt receive it until Jun 13. Packet 4 was mailed on June 6 and he received it on June 13th too. How can he end up getting both the same day! There must have been a hold up with their mailing system. All last week we were e-mailing the Embassy with no response too! We were getting very worried because his interview is on July 5 and he is in the same position needing the medical appointment. Thank the Heavenly Father that the mail came through on the 13th. I also noticed that when I was emailing that I was not getting the confirmation e-mail that I normally get when I send an email to the Embassy saying that they have receieved my email and will respond within 3-5 business days. So something could be up with their email system as well.
I hope that the mail is just delayed and you will get your documents soon! Keep pryaing and keep your faith.

This is very helpful. I am able to get bank letters from just one bank. The other financial institutions line ING and Smith Barney will not give me a form letter. Is it ok just to bring in bank statements instead? Or is there a way to get a form letter from these institutions?

Hey VJ,
My fiance is applying for a K-1 visa and I have to submit a Form I-134, Affidavit of Support. I would like to know what documents I am to attach to the form. I know the instructions ask for specific documentation from my employer which I was able to obtain. My problem comes where they ask for specific information from my financial institutions. I am able to get my bank and investment statements but it's just not in the format requested in the I-134 instructions.
Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, what did you do? Also, if there are people with approved K-1 visas out there what did you submit with your Form I-134?
Thanks for the insight!

I sent three years of tax transcripts from the IRS (not tax returns). I also sent the bank letter and not bank statements. If there is an account that is not reported on the bank letter, I think you should send the bank statement. I also sent three pay stubs and two years of W-2's.
Hope this helps!
