  1. When my wife was still in the Philippines, I couldn't hardly get her to spend the money I sent. I gave her an ATM card and she never used it unless I was with her except for one time when staying at Manila while waiting on her visa. She would only spend on communications (Internet, Phone cards) so she could talk with me. I had to prod her to treat herself every once in a while to halo-halo or a massage. When she was traveling for the medical and interview, she found very inexpensive hotels even though I had told her to stay at the same places we stayed together. She would always tell me where she spent every penny even though I never asked. Now that we are married, we have joint accounts and she has credit cards. She has full access to everything we have and I still have to prod her to spend on herself.

  2. In the end, does any of it really matter? If you love and respect your wife, and she knows it, then it won't matter how you refer to her. And if someone says something that is truly mean or vindictive about her culture, then that is just showing the speaker's lack of intelligence, right?

Many people in the US have never been outside the borders, and have no right to comment on another land's way of life or culture... yet they do it, and probably mostly because of what they have seen/read in the media. My asawa may appear to be more meek and submissive than my ex wife... but she is quick to tell me that "I will always make people think that you are the boss, and might even let YOU believe it from time. But rest assured, I am in charge, and you will end up doing what I want, so best for you not to resist me!" Yeah, she says it laughingly, but in the end, she usually gets what she wants.

On some things, we are equals. On others, one of us takes the lead and the other follows. But whether I call her "My Filipina", or sweetheart, or FiliPAINa, or Flipper, or Honey... she always knows that I love her. And if someone attacks her for her culture, grammar, or whatever, I just sit back and smile, cuz she can handle it. Like when it comes to mocking her grammar (yeah, I have teased her from time to time, cuz it's so darn cute!), but she is not in the mood, she will still my words by saying, "Ok, so my English is not as good as my Tagalog, or my Visayan... but it's better than the other 4 languages I can speak. How many languages are YOU fluent in???" Yeah, she can handle herself, and usually with a smile on her face (that I have come to discern as more dangerous than her frown).

So again I say... does it matter when others show their ignorance? Not really. Cuz in the end, if they are truly sincere in trying to slam my asawa, either directly or thru me by attacking our marital reasoning... then I simply will exclude them from my life. Mostly, it's just honest mistakes, I think. Then again, I don't have the years of being with a FiliPAINa like some of you; but I DO have the luxury of having spent a lot of time outside the US and living in other cultures. And IMHO, getting hot under the collar and "putting someone in their place" probably is a waste of time. If they truly believe what they say, will I change their mind? No. Nothing will, except getting to know my wonderful asawa better.

And for those of you who think ALL Filipinas are good, they ain't. Just as all American women ain't. The nationality does not matter. What matters is that in my Filipina sweetheart, I feel like I have found my soul mate. And I am so lucky to have her.

I think this post really says it all when talking about love and RESPECT. I have a friend that married a Filipina to have his arm candy. She married him for money and a green card. They are now getting divorced, what a surprise. I am madly in love with my Filipina wife of one week B-) . We both love and respect each other. We do everything together including cooking, cleaning, and washing dishes after meals. She is my life partner and the best thing that has ever happened to me. I think very often, American men and Filipino women marry for they wrong reasons. But that happens without marrying outside of ones borders as well. If both parties truely love and respect each other and are committed to making the marriage work, I believe a lifetime of happiness is achievable.

  3. OMG people, call the NVC every day until they have a case number to give you and then call the embassy every day until you are in the system and can schedule an interview. Good things take forever for those who wait. Once you have the case number you can pay the visa fee and get the medical exam. Then when BPI or the embassy mess up your case, call the embassy and hound them for several hours a day until they get you scheduled. and BTW, we got out interview date yesterday after being on the phone every day for a week trying to get a screw up by BPI fixed. After 4 1/2 hours on the phone last night, we got an interview date of June 13th. Good Luck!!!

  4. After 4 1/2 hours on the phone last night, the embassy finally decided the easiest way to resolve this issue is to make my appointment as a Trader Visa Appointment. Yes, we will still have a K-1 interview. She now has an interview appointment for June 13th and a plane ticket to Dallas on June 21. YEY!!!!!!!! She is finally comming home.:D

  5. Hi, when did you pay your visa fee? was it over the counter at BPI. I paid mine this morning 9:20 to be exact but unfortunately cant get through online scheduling, My fiancee tried calling USem already but the agent he spoke with said my payment is not activited yet. patienceee bare with us :)

We paid May 18th. But after hours on the phone with several different people at the embassy, I figured out what the issue was. They finally got the duplicate records deleted, and then we got hung on the receipt number. It turns out that BPI charged us for a Trader Visa instead of a Fiance Visa. It was PHP 16,770 instead of PHP 15,050. Now they have to call BPI in the morning to verify and then change it in their system.

Don't be patient with them. If you do not press them hard, nothing will get done. I have had to become a thorn in their side to get this issue moving. It is still not resolved yet, but will be tonight US time if I have to stay on the phone all night long.

  6. Last week Manila implemented a new Visa computer system. Now we cannot schedule an interview appointment becuase the system has duplicate records and nobody there can seem to delete the duplicates. It has been a week now and they have been unable to help. This is driving both me and my love crazy. I have spoken to 3 supervisors and a manager. They can't even just skip the system and set up an interview. All they can ever do is open a report. Does anyone know of an alternate contact for the embassy that can get this resolved? We are sooo close to the end of this process and now the brakes are on hard.

  7. I am experiencing the same thing. They switched to a new system on Monday. They have us in their system, but cannot schedule our appointment. Sometimes it is due to not being able to get to the calendar and other times it is due to choking on our reciept number. I have no idea how long it will take for them to clear this up. You can try registering online at https://cgifederal.secure.force.com/ . Click new user and follow the instructions to create an account and schedule an appointment. I get an error after putting in the passport and contact information on the web site. Good luck.

  8. Your papers were delivered to the US consulate on May 16th. Below is the tracking information. Mine arrived May 25th and I am going crazy waiting for them to get it in their system so I can set up an interview date. This process is making me hate weekends and look forward to Mondays since nothing happens on weekends. Unfortunately, the consulate will not be working on Monday due to the holiday so our next chance to be in the system is Tuesday. Good luck and hang in there.

  9. We sent out the package on the 10th of Dec and got the first NOA on the 16th. Since then our case has been touched once (31st of Dec) and we have no NOA2.

Should I be worried? Is it more likely we'll get an RFE if it's taking a while for the second NOA?

I wouldn't worry. I sent ours in on Nov 22, didn't get NOA1 until Dec 17, touchced on Dec 31 just like yours, and the next Notice I recieved was NOA2 Approved on 5/9. Hang in there, you should have it soon.

  10. I have a couple of questions about the whole K-1 process and time line.

First, I sent in my I-129F on November 22, 2010 but did not recieve my NOA1 until December 17th. Should I be using the receipt time or the NOA1 time to estimate when I should have NOA2? I know this web site uses NOA1, but receipt time and NOA1 are usually within a couple days of each other. And I did overnight the I-129F on November 22nd and it arrived November 23rd. I have no idea why NOA1 took so long.

Second, I filled out the I-134 two months ago and gave it and the supporting documentation to my fiancee. Should I re-do that after NOA2 so it will be more current? Will they accept one that is 4 or 5 months old?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

  11. My baby and my heart are both in Camiguin. We met online in July 2010 and have spent 8 weeks together in the Philippines. We have been to Camiguin(including White Island and Montegue Island), Cagayan de Oro, Bohol, Cebu, Manila, Baguio(for the panagbenga festival), and Clark (Had Pinizza at Cs) together. We spent my birthday, Christmas, New Years and her birthday together. We have gone Zip Lining(Zip zone and Cebu), ATV Riding, Horse Back Riding, Parasailing, Jet Skiing, Ocean Park, Star City, Dinner and Boat ride on the Loboc River(Bohol), and drove a motorcycle to the chocolate hills(from Camiguin). I have eaten Balut, day old chicks, Durian, Lanzones(was at the lanzones festival at Camiguin), lots of Filipino dishes and rice with every meal. I plan to go back for three more weeks May 13th. I love the Philippines, but the best part of it all is Eve. (L)
