  1. My wife went to DFA to inquire about changing her name on her passport. They no longer do ammendments. You need to get the new e-pasport.

At the time, the closest passport appointment date was 2 months away. After that, it took a couple weeks for delivery.

Did you change her name on the DS230?

  2. One wrong number on the DS-230, however that one wrong number fundamentally altered what was being asked on the form and thus a new form will be needed. I probably would have had a CC today if it wasn't for this. :(

That's why I learned to check things over 50 times, and then another 100 times after that. lol

Well look at the bright side, this is the last immigration paperwork you will have to submit for at least the next 2 years!

  3. Hey guys.

Twice today I received an email from NVC for a Checklist Cover Letter.

The instructions page indicated the following:

    ______1 - IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART 1:_______________________

The NVC has received the information you submitted and placed it in your case file. You will be contacted when your petition is sent to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate for further processing.

    [sEN 09/28/2011] MNL2011XXXXXX

I'm assuming this means nothing. But I'm hoping maybe this means that they will schedule my interview soon?

Anyone else receive anything like this?

  4. AVR says our case was closed. what's the difference of case closed to case complete?? :bonk:

Also can i beg to nvc or to whoever will assign our interview to have it on Oct? I just wanna spend our first anniv together :P

You can request for an early appointment, but you need a really really good reason:

For early appointment requests and visa scheduling issues: IVMNLAppointments@state.gov

Please note, however, that early appointment requests may only be approved on a case to case basis (i.e., aging out cases, or in cases involving personal or medical emergencies), and only if visa interview slots are available.

  5. I also got a fake RFE for AOS this Monday. AVR said my AOS was received this Wednesday. Upon talking to an operator today, he informed me, "..good news is that you're very close to case closed!"

I'm hoping for a case closed message on AVR in the morning. If not, then by Monday or Tuesday.

Wow, I'm such an AVR addict. I just called again right now at 1 in the morning. And guess what?

    CASE COMPLETE!!! (9/23)

Now I'm too excited to sleep!! Haha

  6. Sam is right. I fly MNL-GUM-HNL-IAH all the time. I just wanted to elaborate a little bit.

In Guam, you go through immigrations. And then you go through TSA security. Also, at the gate that leaves for Hawaii, you go through immigrations for a second time before boarding.

In Hawaii, you go to baggage claim and then clear customs. And then you drop off your bags at the nearby bag check area and then actually exit the airport. So you have to go back to the departure area and clear TSA security again.

In Houston, you don't have to go through anything else. Just pick up your bags.

  7. FRIENDS! I HAVE AN URGENT QUESTION!

My I-130 Priority date was April 29. I have been in the Philippines for the past month with my wife. We have been checking the USCIS page everyday. Even though I'm with my loved one, it was also a little depressing because we went over 120 days after NOA1.

This morning, I received an email from NVC. I thought this was odd, because the USCIS page STILL says under "Initial Review"

    In the email, it says:

    NVC Case Number: MNL2011******

    Dear iamalmond:

The immigrant visa petition filed on behalf of Mrs. iamalmond has become eligible

for further processing at the National Visa Center (NVC).

Also, the AOS bill was attached along with the Choice of Agent form.

Does that mean our I-130 was approved? The USCIS page STILL says "Initial Review" as of this moment. I'm holding back most of my excitement until I know for sure!

  8. I wish I could complain about NVC. Still stuck at USCIS. 112 days and counting.

I'm currently in the Philippines right now.

Will I be notified by email if I receive an RFE? My last touch was 05/04. My case status still says Initial Review.

I'm worried about "additional background checks" because my wife had 3 unsuccessful attempts at a US visitor visa before we met.

Should I call USCIS customer service about the status of the petition?
