  1. Hello everyone, had my AOS interview on June 13th in Buffalo, NY. It was a very pleasant experience, the officer was very friendly and even had a very non-american sounding accent. There was another person in the back with a pen and pad writing something during our interview. He made us swear an oath, after which he verified some information on the forms. After that he asked some questions like "Where did you meet?", "Who proposed to whom?", "what was the ceremony like?". I showed him some photos from the ceremony and from before of my wife and I, and our families. Then he asked for some evidence of common property etc - we showed him our car title and bank statement with both our names on them. After that he told us that I am "approvable," which meant that I would know the decision by the end of the day and that I can expect the card in the mail in 3-10 days. He then went and copied the photos and documents I had showed him, returned, and that was it. All in all, a very relaxed experience. Two hours later I got an email and text saying card production ordered. All done - PHEW!

  3. hey mbh, i contacted my state's senior senator (NY) for help with expediting the AP, they had a web form set up for all the details and i called them too. They were able to contact USCIS within a week and had a response in about 3 days. Ironically though, I got my AP the day they contacted USCIS.

Having you pay $200 for their mistake is a little ridiculous. I would suggest you contact your senator first, since your timeline doesn't seem too urgent. Here's the contact page for all senators: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm.

  4. Allright, major update folks. Received my "Request for applicant to appear for initial interview" notice yesterday in the mail. Also, at 5 AM this morning, I received two emails saying my EAD and AP were approved. Notices were mailed out on May 5th and May 11th respectively. I don't know why they didn't update me via text/email on those days. The online tracking system shows "touches" on EAD and AP on May 14th. They have people working at 5 AM??? I think yesterday's emails may have something to do with me contacting my senator with a request to help with my AP expedite. Her office contacted USCIS yesterday. Oh the bureaucracy!

  6. ok, expedite request for my AP denied (booo). Here's what the email from USCIS says: Due to the high volume of expedite requests for this case type, we are strictly enforcing the criteria that has been set for these expedite requests. While your situation appears serious, your case does not qualify for expedited processing.

Maybe its because I need to travel on June 5th, which is a month away. Who knows? Either way, I'm going to sit tight and wait.

  7. Update: I did my walk-in biometrics two weeks early at Buffalo, NY, today. The lady who was working there gave me a hard time at first, but then took my biometrics while saying I should have kept my original appointment and that I was jeopardizing my application by doing it early without officially rescheduling.

I think she is full of it. If it were really a problem, she wouldn't have taken my biometrics. What do you guys think? Her take was that if you come in early, and then your appointment date comes around and you don't show up, they might think that you abandoned your application. This makes no sense! If they already took my biometrics, how can they think I am abandoning my application?

Anyway, this adds to my belief that USCIS is a large living breathing monstrosity that eats puppies for breakfast. In other news, I requested an expedited advanced parole based on the condition that not having one will cause "extreme financial hardship to a business or an individual." This was the closest I came to meeting one of their listed conditions, based on the fact that if I can't travel for work in June, my boss will be most displeased and possibly fire me, a.k.a., extreme financial hardship! (though quite honestly having to pay their friggin application fees again is more of an extreme financial hardship)

  8. Hi everyone! I just joined since I noticed that there were people freaking out about not receiving an NOA. I just wanted you to know that I received my text/email NOAs after 33 days. I called them at 31 days and was told to wait another 15 days. So, the trick is to be patient. It can take 3 days, or it can take more than a month. Worrying will get you nowhere!

On another note, I need to leave the country on June 5th for work. Does anyone know how to expedite the Advanced Parole process? I've been told I should call them after I receive my biometrics appointment.
