  1. The NVC sends your case to the consulate of the country were you are currently residing so sinceu are living in Nigeria now thats why it was sent to Lagos. Also i dont believe you need a resident permit before you can be interviewed but you can send an email to the Lagos consulate to ask them that question.

  2. That's exactly what they told my cousin and that he should contact them after 60 days by then they should have completed their investigation. When he was told to come back they now banned him for life so please pray very well. He was banned for misrepresentation because his identity could not be confirmed, his is in the process of applying for a waiver of inadmissibility so good luck.

  3. hi ejamensa

i solidly agree with romnick, jst go to the country were u got married, and walk into any court and ask them to certify your marriage certificate. then get a police clearance from both countries. nigeria police cert expires after 3months or 6months, cant remember, so do it like a month or two before your interview.

    thanks

  4. Well same thing happened to my cousin (Male) but he was penalized because they stated that he should never have used the passport if he knew his DOB was wrong. All the same, everyone's case is different so just pray that it all goes well. My cousin was approved at the interview and was to pick up his passport the following week, when he went to pick it up it wasn't there so he went to the embassy and that was when they informed him of the issue. After asking him to bring documentation to prove his age which he did they still banned him so be prayerfull and if possible get a lawyer.

  5. Are you saying the first attempt was to visit the USA and the second was to visit Canada? If so its not possible for it to be the same embassy as you stated. However, if the false name and DOB was through the Canadian embassy and not the American embassy then it will not be a problem because the name and DOB will be consistent. Please clarify your statement so we can better advise you.

  6. thank you everyone. i pray for everyone going through any visa process, best of luck. i have always had this believe that it can be delayed, but it cant be denied.

@ SUAVERIKKY, my thoughts to you is, try to avoid anything about introduction or engagement generally during your interview. dont ever open any door for that question, because it is one of the questions that messes a lot of K1 fillers up in Nigeria, if i had known visa journey forum before my first interview, i wudnt have been denied of my visa for any reason. jst let the CO know that you have a good relationship with your future inlaws.

and dont forget to explain to them how you plan to do your wedding when you get to the US, cos thats another question they ask, jst to know how serious your relationship is.

feel free to ask any question, cos my joy is to see everyone here join thier spouse.

  7. Am so greatful to God Almighty, and all the VJ members for making my journey to be with my husband in the US a dream come true. this forum has helped us so much.

our journey started last year march 2010, when my husband filled a K1 petition for me, every thing went well with the petition process and i was given an interview date on the 22nd of october 2010. i was prepared for that interview, with a lot of proofs to show that our relationship was solid. i had a lot of high hopes and never ever thought of disappointment, i thought because my relationship was real and solid, i will get my visa automatically. but unfortunatly i was given the shock of my life. on the day of the interview the CO asked me some few questions like

CO- who filled for you? how did u meet? whom did he come to visit in nigeria when u met him? the question that changed the whole story was...... have you done a traditional engagement? and i just said YES, he asked me, was any bride price paid? and i said, it was paid and was returned back to my fiancee family showing that thier daughter wasnt for sale. immediatly he asked me to show him any of the engagement pics, which i did. The CO looked at me and said....sorry mam, i cant issue you a Visa, cos this is not the right petition to file. I felt so bad and weak, and i tried to explain things to him, and he said to me again , i cant issue you a visa, tell your fiancee to file the 130petition for you. and i went outside with tears in my eyes to meet my fiancee, we felt so heart broken. and he decided to follow the cASE up, they invited us again for a second interview, were we met a nigeria man who interviewed us separately, And he asked me so many question and threaten to barn me if he ever finds out that i have done any of the wedding, either traditional, white or civil. he called my fiancee upstairs and asked him few questions again. so when we left the embassy dat day, we decided to cancel the petition to file an 130 for spouse. we quickly rushed down to the marriage registry in abuja and got married. my husband went back to the US in November and quickly filed an i130 petition for spouse. it took about 5months to approved it and we were given an interview date for July 11th. i was so scared and nervous, had too many things goin through my head while am preparing for my interview. i and and my husband visited this VJ forum like 5times in a day, going tru questions, reading about other peoples experience, finally on the day of the interview, i had many proofs like pictures, emails, call record, western union, photocopies of his passport,. i was fully ready this time. so this is the questions i was asked by the CO

    CO- WHO PETITION FOR YOU

    ME-MY HUSBAND

    WHERE DOES HE LIVE

    ME-MARYLAND

CO-HOW DID YOU MEET, WHEN DID YOU MEET

CO-WHAT DOES HE DO FOR A LIVIN

CO-HOW MANY TIMES HAS HE BEEN BACK

    ME- 13TIMES

CO-WOW, THATS A LOT OF TIME,

CO- HOW DOES HE COPE WITH ALL THESE TRAVELLS AND WORK

ME-WHENEVER HE IS DONE WITH A PARTICULAR PROJECT, HE TAKES TIME OFF.

CO-WHEN LAST DID YOU SEE HIM

ME-HE IS OUTSIDE WAITING FOR ME.

CO-HAVE YOU BEEN HERE BEFORE FOR A K1 INTERVIEW BEFORE?

ME-I SAID YES, I WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE CO THAT INTERVIEWED ME LAST TIME SAID I WA MARRIED.

CO-DO YOU HAVE PICTURES, EMAILS, CALL RECORD

ME- I BROUGHT OUT HIP OF CAL RECORD AND PICTURES AND EMAIL FROM 2005

CO- I WIL ISSUE YOU A VISA, PICK UP YOU VISA NXT WEEK AT THIS ADDRESS,

and she gave me a sheet of paper and i left with smiles on my face to meet my husband outside.

this is my visa journey story. i am in maryland with my husband,,,,,, what a dream come true.

if you have any question or advice , pls feel free to email or send me a message .

  8. Thanks to you all for helping me with that question. I do have another question, after my wife was denied the K1 visa, we immediately got married at the federal registry in Abuja and i filed the I-130 with that marriage certificate. A few months later we decided to do our church wedding and traditional wedding which we had already planned to do after she had gotten her K1 so now we have another marriage certificate from the church and i wanted to know if CO will ask my wife for the church wedding certificate at the interview or since they already have our federal registry certificate then there will be no need for the church certificate? Anyone who has had such an experience i would appreciate some help with this.

    thanks,

  9. Hello All,

My wife was denied a K1 visa because at the time she stated that we did a traditional engagement. I came back to Nigeria and we got married and i have re-filled an I-130 which has been approved and her interview is coming up. I wanted to ask if anyone out there has this same experience and whether or not they ask questions about the denied K1 visa and what other kinds of questions do they ask..please help.
