  1. This is for anyone who has come through JFK on a Visa.

She is flying into JFK, New York in a couple weeks. She will have 6 bags and 2 boys with her. I will be waiting outside security to help with the boys and the luggage.

What happens? First Passport Control, then she claims her bags. Then probably she goes thru Customs. Then there is a Immigrations office???

I cannot go thru security to help because I am not a ticketed passenger.

What should she expect? And how will I find her or she find me? She has asked and I don't have answers. I could use some info from anyone who has been thru this airport coming in on a K-1 Visa.

  2. We submitted our 129F and the USCIS received it on 9 April and we have a Receipt number, I check the status almost daily. She is worried about the situation in Ukraine, and Russia continues to provoke violence in eastern Ukraine, I'd say there is a 50% chance of a total Russian invasion.

I read the above post, how do we go about getting the USCIS to expedite the Visa process? She lives in Kiev, the US Embassy is just a bus ride from her flat. She has 2 sons, and all of the papers are in order for them too. They all speak decent English, the interview should be no problem.

We have all of the documents in order, she is basically the Chief Auditor of a software firm, and former professor, she is very meticulous about documents, and we have a good experienced immigration lawyer.

I just need them to speed up the process maybe a month, the boys need to be here in time to enroll in school. If it can be done in 4 months instead of 5, that would perfect.

  3. Take any premise and you can find supporting data. One of my favorite quotes from 19th-century British Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." When looking at supporting data, question the source. The Huffngton Post is a politically left leaning source, they report stories that support their position on any issue. A poll taken in Berkley, California or Boulder, COlorado would be VERY different from a poll taken in Odessa, Texas or Knoxville, Tennessee. The problem with the internet is people read stuff on the internet and they believe it. "I read it on the interent so it must be true" Peopl should think for themselves and not believe everything they read on the internet.

  4. I did not attack the messenger, I pointed out that this was written as if it were fact when it is a politically biased editorial. Given that two of the main points are false, that Americans are for more background checks and more gun control (false) and that Americans are concerned about Global Warming (false), then how can this article be taken seriously? The US already has background checks in place and if there was support for more gun control, it would have already happened. Same with Globlal Warming legislation. So the whole article is biased and has factual errors (lies), and is not believable.

  5. I hope because of the Russian aggression in Ukraine that the US will expedite K-1 Visas for Ukrainians. I talk to Mila almost every day, and she is very worried, she cries every night after the boys are asleep. If I could get her to the US, then I'd know she would be safe for a while. Eventually Putin is going to start WW3, so no one will be safe in the long run. But for now, I will settle for us being together for what time we have.

  6. If you notice this study was done by 2 very liberal professors. It is total propaganda. Most Americans are not for more gun control, and most Americans think the Climate Change Nazis are up to their noses in cocaine or something. Once you read those 2 points, you understand that these 2 professors started with a belief and then found arguments to support their belief. That is the scientific method turned ###-backward.

  7. I've been working for several months without a day off, and I am still very unsure about doing the paperwork myself for a K-1 Visa. I've decided to hire an Immigration Attorney. I did a Google search and found several at prices ringing from $995 to $2495. I'm not certain who to use or who to trust. They all promise results.

If anyone can make a recommendation for an attorney, send it in a PM or email me at Hangernaid@gmail.com. I know this site is not for commercial purposes and I don't want to have a thread deleted by violating any rules.

    I appreciate the recommendations.

  8. etripke,

I just returned from my 6th visit. My job is somewhat seasonal, I work all summer, and I try to spend Dec-Jan-Feb in Ukraine. This last trip I flew over, we then flew to Antalya, Turkey and spent a week at The Kremlin Palace, flew back to Ukraine for 10 days, then back home. I've been learning Russian for a while, she is an Art Teacher, and I almost have my Bachelors in Secondary Education. Her 9 year old daughter and I get along great, and her 22 year old daughter lives in the US.

I guess what I was trying to say is I've done a lot more than just visit once, I'm comfortable in Ukraine. Mila and I have been dating for about a year and half, I have a great relationship with both of her daughters, I know most of her friends in Ukraine, spent Christmas and Easter in Ukraine, I've put a lot of thinking, time, and work into this relationship. My only problem is navigating the waters of the bureaucrats and red tape.

When I finish my Bachelor's in Education next year, and I already have my TEFL Certificate, I could teach English in Ukraine except the pay is so poor. If they paid decent wages, I wouldn't mind living in Ukraine for a while.

  9. I will be in Ukraine in Jan and Feb, if we start the paperwork in Feb, and if it takes 4 to 6 months to get the Visa, and that is just guessing, then it would be issued about July, maybe August. Then if she can travel on Nov 10th, we have 90 days from the date of her entry to get married, if I understand the time limit. I think that here in the US we will still have to do the usual getting blood test and going to the courthouse and getting a Marriage License.

I was thinking about taking her on a couple week tour of the US, and possibly getting married in Las Vegas.

Then there is more paperwork to do to change her K-1 Visa to something more permanent?

But back to the top, what steps do I need to take to start the process? Is the paperwork filed in the US or in Ukraine?

  10. I would welcome advice from the many knowledgeable VJ couples out there.

I have a pretty specific timeline on when to bring Mila to the US. I work a seasonal job, I'm a on a US Forest Service Fire crew from June to November, and I don't want to bring my soon to be wife over only to have her sit at home while I'm away for months at a time. At the end of next Fire Season, I want to bring Mila and her 9 year old daughter to America from Ukraine. I think we will do it on a K-1 Visa, and whatever Visa is required for her daughter.

I am now in the US (just returned from a splendid week with Mila in Antalya, Turkey), and I doubt I will make it back to Ukraine until after this Fire Season.

So I will return and live in Ukraine from late Dec 2011-mid Feb 2012. During that time I will need to do everything needed to bring Mila to the US in November 2012.

What do I need to do? Required paperwork from the US on me, my divorce, etc... I've read that she needs a physical. Paperwork to bring her daughter???

Is there an expiration timeline? As soon as we park the equipment at the end of Fire Season, I want to be on a plane with 2 empty suitcases flying to Ukraine to bring Mila and Liza back to America. I want everything ready so the only delays are based on Mila trying to decide what to pack and not on some government person wanting form XX2968315 in triplicate with the official seal of the President and a $500 processing fee.
