Cool, thanks so much for all responses!

Hi All,
My husband arrived in January and we got married in the same month. I finally sent in the AOS paperwork a week or so ago. However, I am confused as to whether I can apply for a social security number for him. I have not fully researched it, but as far as my understanding goes, he cannot apply for a social sec number until he receives his employment authorization or green card?
Does anyone know the answer or where I can find this information?
Any replies are most appreciated.
Thank you.

Just in case anyone still looks at this post:
My fiance's interview date was on October 28th and my male fiance got approved, thank God, with no AP or delays. He will be mailed his passport within ten days, inshaAllah.
so there's hope for no AP. It stressed the ####### outta me, so I hope others will be reassured. The whole process took 6 months on the dot!

I know this post is old, but in Faisal's defense; anyone who is saying that the local staff is not the issue has clearly never spoken to the islamabad staff before. They are impossible to get a hold of and extremely unorganized. I doubt the issue was in his asking as much as it was in their disorganization. They are DEFINITELY a personal problem to anyone who needs info from them. And any information that is in the website should also AT LEAST BE KNOWN to the staff. just my input.

It is so refreshing to see posts that are truly trying to help someone with good information and not trying to cause more pain for the person posting the topic. It makes me believe in human kindness again.
This is a very stressful process because we think we have no control. Remember that we do have control over our own stress and in keeping the faith. I noticed I started losing faith and getting more stressed after the 4th month, and I completely lost it after the 5th month date. But then I realized something. I was letting my own fears control me. My husband and I have decided to stay calm and positive, and we are putting all our energy into getting him to America no matter how long it takes.
We are doing so much better now. Everyday that passes is one more day closer to him coming to America.
Hang in there. Do not even think of AP. Take it one step at a time. You can get through anything if you stay in control.
Thank you, and yes, I truly appreciate all of those who have answered my question; this is a really friendly community...the first response put me off a little, but the rest were really sweet and considerate!
That's great advice, and you are very wise to adhere to it. I will try to follow your example. Thank you and best of luck to you!

CONGRATS!!!!!
We're all so happy for you!

I think it's smart to prepare yourselves for AP but not obsess over it pre interview as it may just make the interview even more nerve wracking. The truth of the matter is AP is very likely. The US is has such a huge database of names that "hits" are very common and cause further delays in processing the visa. My fiance has been in AP for 7 months now. He is from London but family is originally from Pakistan and he has a common name. Everyone's different and some get through it in a week and some in a couple years!
Sorry if this is a "downer" answer(I've responded on both posts since I'm in the same situation), but since you are asking it's best to know the truth rather than get the rug pulled out from under you at your interview like we did.
Wishing you the best!
AP can possibly be based on names that come up as "hits" on the system? That is such a bummer, seeing as it seems like all our names are so common! I mean, a name like "khan" would pop up EVERYWHERE! thanks for your input...what a drag!
Let's hope that you'll be out of AP before the 8th month (: good luck to you as well.

Alright I have checked several (approved visa) VJ Pakistan timelines, especially the most recent 11.
Good news for the folks applying, no need to worry at least 4 or 5 got their Visa within a 3 days of the interview and the average looked like it was 200 days or less from NOA1. The others got their Visa within a month or 2 after interview. I flew thru the others and there were a couple that waited nearly 2 years.
But looking at it I would say for recent petitions anyway, it doesn't look like mandatory APs, more like what you would expect out of any embassy.
Well I guess I couldn't leave this one alone cause the Cyprus embassy is just south of Turkey and if there was even a possibility of something like a mandatory AP it would annoy the heck out of me!
WOW, thanks so much for all that information! I hope that everything will be ok...Thanks again for all the help!

95% chance you will have some administrative processing. It has nothing to do with your relationship and everything to do with checking his background for all sorts of lurid things such as terrorism, links to terrorist, any specialty training, any trips outside his country or even some places within his country.
There is not a thing you can do to prevent it. Just hang in there and keep the faith.
Alright. Thank you, and congrats to you for successfully completing it all!

Seems like me and you will be on the same boat since I sent my petition on April 26th as well. They received it on April 27 and am awaiting for my NOA1. I agree with the above although I`m the type that believes that the more you send the better chances you may get but you wont really be needing all that until the interview. Its best to record everything you do now until the date so you can show them new evidence as they may be interested in that too. I only sent them my copy of itinerary,Pakistani visa, phone card bill of this year, facebook convos of this year,8 pictures, letter of intent, engagement receipt and a 1 pg letter on how we met and became engaged.
Oh, I'm happy to hear that someone else is doing something very similar. If you get the chance, please post something here when you get the NOA1 or the g1145 notification thing so I'll have a better idea of it. I included all that stuff too...best of luck to you as well. Thanks for your help.

Congratulations on your engagement. What service center is your case going through? If it is VSC it could take quite a while. CSC is moving a bit faster.
As far as administrative processing goes, I am under the impression that sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. Look at others experiences that have filed in Pakistan and see if they encountered administrative processing. I would think unless they are skeptical about something that was included on you application you should be fine.
Concerning how many pages you sent, you needed to show proof that you two have met in the past 2 years and some proof of an ongoing relationship. I did not include much proof of the on going relationship. I believe they are more concerned with that at interview time. But I have seen posts that people have sent a few hundred pages, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.
I wish you both the best!!!!
Thanks. I sent it to the lockbox facility in Lewisville, TX but since I live in California it will probably be sent to CA one, if I'm not mistaken. I did include proof of having met (ticket itineraries, passport stamps, etc) as well. I'm happy to hear that it is not completely determined that he/we will end up in AP. Thank you!

Hi everyone...
this is my first post. I got engaged in Pakistan on march 23rd after a two year relationship. I just sent in my petition on April 26th, and they received it on April 28th. Now I've been looking through the posts on VJ and I have realized that there is a potential threat of something called Administrative Processing happening to my case. I'm very worried about this as my fiance is a male from Pakistan and I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to how to avoid falling into a black hole of delays? I was hoping to get this visa within 7-8 months...that is the timeframe I was aiming at.
Also, I think I may have overshot it a "bit" in filing my petition.
i thought that i had to prove an ongoing relationship as well and i included emails, chats, phone records, engagement ring receipts...and it ended up being somewhere between 200-300 pages. Does anyone think that will end up being an issue?
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Should I give up or fight for him?

I read this whole thing from start to finish. You have my deepest sympathies. We are all here for you if you would ever like to talk!
Garbage like that man should be punished; remember, what goes around comes around so he'll get what he deserves in the end. You seem so sweet, and it is just awful that anyone can treat their spouse like that.
Be strong; you have my prayers that you will be happier than you ever were before. I'm sure you've heard it a lot, but trust me, it is true that you deserve better and you will find better. Men and women were created in pairs; your perfect soulmate is not that man, (and I'm trying my best to be polite about your husband), it is someone who will make you feel like a Queen! You are better off without him weighing you down and depreciating your self-worth!
Good Luck!
One last thing, just think how much happier you'll be with someone who treats you like you deserve to be treated?? It will be so much better than anything you've ever experienced! (Sorry for the emotionally charged response.)
