Question to couples (IR1/CR1 visa category) who had their interview at the US Embassy in Seoul: Did CO ever questioned your filing status on your ITRs? Did you (USC) filed as single? Married but filing separately? When I filed my 2010 ITR, H&R Block put me in as "SINGLE." I told them that I am married but my spouse is in another country and had never set foot in US. technically you need to get an ITN for your non-resident spouse and file jointly. It is possible to amend your past returns. Now whether or not this will affect your visa case is completely different matter from that of IRS. I am not sure why H&R Block had you file as single. I am not a tax professional but I was told that it is never good to file your status differently than what it really is.
