  1. The journey is finally over!!! I became a proud US Citizen on 4th of July.

The ceremony was held at Seattle Center next to Space needle and was hosted by Ethnic Heritage Council. I reached at the venue around 9:45 AM and checked in with USCIS. They ran my name against the list they had and confirmed my DOB, Address, Name etc. Once confirmed, they gave me a yellow sheet of paper and asked me to move to the next building (Fisher Pavilion). All the to be naturalized citizens were asked to stand in line till they made arrangements to sit them down. Around 10:30, the asked us to seat near the South Fountain lawn. Visitors and guests were seated seperately. Once seated, we were given a packet which contained the event schedule and details. I wasn't prepared to have a long ceremony and the schedule seemed really long and went on till 1:30 pm. The program started with Greenwood Concert band playing some festive selections, followed by United States Army Color Guard presenting the colors at the commencement of the ceremony. Mayor Mike McGinn was the moderator for the event and introduced the dignitaries which included local Senators and US Rep, WA State Secretary of State, WA state Attorney General, US Circuit Judge, and a number of diplomats from several countried including Switzerland, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, UK etc.

The event began with a Native American performance, speeches by local senators, mayor etc describing how their forefathers came to this country and how proud they are to be part of this event. It was definitely an emotional moment for me as well. After the speeches, Mayor Mike McGinn, told the audience that we had 525 naturalized citizens today from 82 countries. He then started naming countries and asked folks from respective countries to stand up, and acknowledge. Highest number of citizens were from Philippines (59), India (44), Mexico(40) and number of them from European, Asian, and African countries. Frankly speaking there were folks who countries that I never heard of before. This just goes on to show the rich diversity of this country. The oldest person to become US citizen was 84 years old.

Next, USCIS Director (Seattle Office), then requested the US Circuit Judge to pass the motion to grant US citizenship to all the new citizens and he said "the motion is granted". I think this a formal process that they have to go through. Circuit Jugde, then asked us to stand up and take the oath. It was really a momentous event for all of us. Personally, I became very emotional repeating the Oath of Allegiance and sworn in as a new US citzen. He then congratulated all the new citizens and everybody started screaming/shouting and waiving the US mini flag in excitement.

Finally local Senator thanked and congratulated the new US citizens mentioning that 98118 is the most diverse zip code in the country. I couldn't believe it thinking that there is got to be a zip code in NY or LA that is more diverese than this. I did verify this later and it seems that based on the 2010 US census, it is true.

Mayor finally concluded the ceremony with his final congratulatory comments and logistics on where to collect the Naturalization certificate. I collected my certificate and enrolled for voting right there as well.

Overall, this day was a really emotional one for me and I'm proud to be a US citizen.

I congratulate every individual who has become a US citizen and good luck to the soon to be US Citizens!!

Below is a short news clip on the event. Ejnoy!

  2. Did you connect with Tier 2 rep when you called USCIS? Did you tell them that folks who have filed after you have been scheduled for interview? Do you have anything on your application that requires further scrutiny and background checks? Sometime this can be the cause of delay.

Ok now I'm just getting mad. A late April filer to the same DO already has an interview date :(

  3. Congrats!! :thumbs::thumbs:

Let's hope you receive the oath letter soon and be part of the July 4th oath ceremony!!

I had my interview yesterday at Kansas city MO and passed

My appointment was at 10.30AM and was called in about 11AM and was done by 11.12AM. So it was easy. IO was professional, friendly and quick. Monday is a busy day at DO so there were many cars outside. I reached the IO at 10AM and waited till 11AM. Many people were waiting (hall was full). Interestingly, one guy had come there for a walkin interview (surprized me!!!) He had his interview scheduled next week, but he was travelling. So decided to show up at the IO and they accomodated him. You need to drop your interview letter in the box outside the door. IOs keep coming and picking them up as they send people out. My interview letter was picked by a lady IO but was interviewed by someone else (male IO)

Anyway, my name was called and I went to the door. IO said good morning and let me into a corridor. He asked me for my drivers license, Greencard, REP (didn't ask for passport). Matched names and faces to all the three documents and to my interview letter. Than took me to his office. As we were walking I made a small joke about his tie and we had a good laugh. He was friendly and had good sense of humor. That put us in ease.

Once inside the office, he let me put my folders down and asked me to keep standing. He asked me raise right hand and administered oath. After sayign I do. He asked me to sit down and said "Since, we are understanding each other fine, let me finish this in a good speed. If I am too fast, Please stop me and ask me to slow down. I am sorry we are running late and want to get you out soon". I said thats fine. Than he took my application, started asking whats my full name, why I am chanign my name, where I have lived so far, Where I work, How many trips I have taken in last 5 years etc,. No point he looked at me. He was just listening to what I am saying and jumping to next questions. Infact, I felt like he just making sure things written on the application is right. I had one correction (my wedding anniversary date), he did that. I wanted to change my employment date (I had a few days wrong for my start date), he said don't worry it doesn't matter.

Than he jumped to civil questions. I don't remember the questions. I answered first six right and he stopped. He had printed sheet with 10 questions. He asked 6 in random order. I had 2 question specific to kansas (like capital and governor). He said its very rare I get 2 questions relating to same topic. He asked me to read "July 4th is our independence day" and write "Washington was father of our nation". He didn't even look at the sheet, but marked it right and signed.

Than started asking me yes and No qustions from the last part of the application. Which was vey quick. Than said, He is recommending me for approval. I asked him if it is possible to get the oath letter today, he said no. Than thanked me for my time and walked me out.

Very relieved it is over with. I had 3 issues with my application that I was worried

    1. Continious residency; I had one trip for 7 months just before sending the application. He didn't even bother to ask any questions about it (infact, he didn't even ask for any documents that I carried for any thing. He saw my drivers license, GC and REP)

    2. Speeding tickets: I had 2 dismissed tickets from 6 years ago. I mentioned to him during the interview, he said thats fine but didn't change the anwer on n400

    3. Wife and kids are not living with me from last one year. We are not separated or not planning to. It is just that she can't enter US as her advance parole expired when she was visiting home land. she is struck there till I get my citizenship and get her GC. He didn't care about this either

Overall, its done. Now time to check the mailbox everyday for oath letter. Good luck to everyone.

  4. I got my Interview letter first and then after a couple of weeks, i received the YL. I was scared too since I didn't have the required documentation with me. But at the interview, IO never asked me the documentation and approved my application. YMMV :)

that's weird, normally people get the yellow first then the IL..

did u check the dates on the letters?

maybe the yellow letter got stuck in traffic..

  5. Who makes federal laws???

I got the same 5 Qs, wondering if they have a specific set of Qs that they go through.

    Congrats!!!!

Had my interview today, the IO started with the civics questions and asked the following:

    1. What goup of people was taken to America and sold as slaves?
    2. Why did the colonists fight the Brtiish?
    3. What is the highest court in the United States?
    4. What is the name of the Vice President of the United States now?
    5. How many amendments does the constitution have?

I can't for the life of me remember the 6th question. Then she went over my application and asked why I was absent more the 6 months twice in the past 5 years and I explained that I was at University. I was really worried that this would be an issue. The IO then gave me my results saying that I had passed and then proceeded to give me the oath notice (which I wasn't expecting).

  6. That is great news!!!! All is well that ends well!!! Now go and take a nap;)

Updated: I could not sleep last night :( This morning instead of working, I started to search for my 2 senators and my U.S. Rep. I sent all 3 e-mails to them this morning

    That's how serious I am.

And this afternoon I don't have a feeling of working at all. Instead of sitting in my office, I took a 2 hours lunch time and go do nothing around the cafeteria

My inner-self said go do something more. I started to call USCIS after 1 day of my interview. The Tier 1 guy said, just wait Sir. It's only 1 day. I insisted that my VJ adviser told me to talk to Tier 2. To my surprise, the lady on Tier 2 said it was approved yesterday. I think my IO approved after her lunch time. Thanks to the food she ate  F#ck Yea.....

    That's all guys for today.

  7. Sorry to hear that Dude...

Did you ask the IO why the decision cound't be made at this time? Were there any red flags or outstanding issue that needed to be clarified? You might want to call USCIS and request further clarification. Let's hope for the best!

I went in the morning and waited about 1 hour. IO asked all those Yes/No questions. Passed civic questions, writing, reading with flying color. I/O congrats me for passing the test. Asked me to wait outside for decision. I thought in my mind I am 100% approval, I just want to see the oath letter from the IO.

She handed me a letter check box " decision cannot be made at this time " I feel hopeless the moment I saw it :crying:

Now read about this check box on VJ, this is a time sucker. It is really a killing for me as I am going to use the certificate for my wife case F2-A. Yeah, I am really pissed

  8. Yes.

    CONGRATS!!!!!!!!

MCKS, your other ceremony is scheduled on independence day?

    Thanks All.

Yes, Ichi is right. That's exactly what she asked me to write down.

Confused me at first too, but I'm thinking that the first sentence was just the one MCKS was asked to read, the second was the sentence MCKS was asked to write w/o any relationship meant to be implied between the two, ha ha.

  9. Please add one more approval to the list...

My appointment was at 8:10 AM and I reached at 7:20 AM. Interview was on time and the Immigration Officer was very friendly. First i took the oath and then she asked for my Passport, GC, and State ID. Then she started reviewing the application and verified all the details on the application.

In the middle of reviewing the application, she let me know that we will be going through the Civics test. Below are the questions she asked:

1)How many ammendments does the Constitution have?

    2) Who makes Federal laws?

    3) What is the name of Vice President of US now?

    4) What is the highest court in US?

    5) What group of people was taken to America as slaves?

    6) Why did colonits fight the British?

Then she asked me to read " Who lives in White house". Then I wrote " American Indians lived here first".

She then went back to reviewing the application. She kept writing a lot of stuff on my applicaton (not sure what) and then she went through the Yes/No questions on the application. I had answered Yes to one of them "Q16 Part D" and she asked me to explain the circumstances. I explained her the situation and she cut me off and went back to asking more questions on the application. Then she stopped and said " I didnt mean to cut you off but I know that there are lot of travelers who cross the border accidently to Canada at Niagara falls. They should do something about it" That pretty much explains my situation. She laughed and I laughed as well. She then asked me why my wife didn't accompany me, to which I said that she wants more sleep since she is pregnant. So she didn't want to join so early in the morning. She congratulated me and asked our due date etc.

Then she asked me to sign at the end of my application. She put the Approved stamp and went on to print additional documentation.

She then congratulated me and let me know that I was being recommended for approval. She said there is usually one final review of the application but other than that I'm all set. She handed me the Oath paperwork.

My Oath is scheduled for July 4th at 10 AM. Really exicted to be part of the oath ceremony which is planned at the Space Needle.

Been a great journey which will soon be complete.

    Thanks All !!!
