  1. I'm pretty sure you want to put your dad's info there even though he has passed away, but I'm not 100% certain.

Your best bet in getting your question answered is to post a new topic instead of attaching it to my post regarding info window. That way more people may see it and be able to help.

I found posting a new topic a bit confusing when I first joined this site, however, normally what I do is go to the "Forums" section and post under the section that relates to your current situation. There might be an easier way though. Anyways, hope this helps.

    Good luck.

    Hi!!

I am a USC and applying GC for my mom. My father died 10 years ago and my mom is a widow and still has her last name from my father. I am filling DS320 form for my mom and I am confused whether to provide my father's information on line 14-18 (father names/date of Brith/occupation etc...) or leave it blank. Please help.Thank you

  2. Been through the same process last November I email them on december 1 and they reply the next day and gave me an appointment for December 22 and it was just to submit the documents no questions were ask

Okay - thank you to you both. Emailed them on Thursday, still waiting to hear back. Trying to be patient. Can't wait for all this to be over with. Thx again!

  3. My mother-in-law went in for her interview this morning and it turned out that they need a copy of my birth certificate/passport. I'm really annoyed because nowhere on the checklist did it actually list that she needed this.

Anyways, she was instructed to email them when she has the document and request a Info Window Appt which she just did. I'm wondering if anyone knows how long it will take for her to get an actual appointment and if anyone has been through that process?

    I appreciate your help.

  4. Woohooo!!! So happy for you guys. I even put her interview in my planner just so I would remember to send out postive thoughts. My mother-in-law will be happy to know all went so smoothly.

We haven't gotten an interview yet because I forgot to send 2 documents, so I have to wait another 3 weeks or so to hear back from them. But overall, things are moving along nicely.

    J-

    Thanks a lot Kerr_Wife!

    And thanks Ricardo lol.

My mom called me after the interview was over. She said it was a short process. They just asked her for the medical package and her passport, then told her to take a seat and wait to be called.

When she went back to the window they said everything was in order and asked her to raise her right hand and say some oath and they gave her back one of the passport-sized pictures. Stamped her Visitor Visa (Cancelled Without Prejudice) and had her pay the mailing fee for the package they will send to her.

I was surprised at the ease of the whole situation actually. I kept asking her what did they ask her - she said they didn't ask her anything. Just asked her for the medical package and passport. I was like Wow...

I'm proud of how calm she appeared to be. I understand there's not much worry for a parent when all the paperwork is in order, but still the anxiety can affect some people. When I spoke to her last night and this morning she sounded real calm. :)

So now just looking forward to receiving that entry package and scheduling her flight. I think I'm more excited than she is haha.

I will update on more developments to follow. :)

  5. No, it's not an immigrant visa. Immigrant visas do not generally allow you to enter the US multiple times because you wouldn't need to - you become an immigrant (i.e., you get a green card) when you enter the US the first time with an immigrant visa. In all likelihood, she's got a B2 visitor's visa. It will say on the visa under "Visa Type" what type of visa she has.

Okay, then what I meant to say is she probably has a 'nonimmigrant' visa then. I will have her look at her visa and tell me the type and that's what I will put on the form.

Thanks so much for your help!!!

  6. The "type" code on the biographical information page of a passport indicates the document type. The letter "P" means it's a passport - nothing more.

What sort of application is this for? Is your mother-in-law currently in the US? Is there a visa in her passport? If so then look at the visa under the line that says "Visa Type".

Her son (USC) is applying for his mother. She is currently in Jamaica, but can travel back and forth. Her visa is a 10 year visa. Would that be called a immigrant visa? I just don't know what should be put in this area. This is the DS -230 (IV application) form that's being completed.

  7. Greetings All,

Not sure what my mother-in-law should use for "type of visa" on the application. I would say "Tourist Visa" (since she travels on it to come in/out of the US) or should it be "Immigrant Visa". Not sure what the official term should be. On the biographical info page in her passport, for type it only lists "P".

    Can anyone clarify???

    Thank you,

  8. That's good. I'm glad my updates helped. And I gotta thank Ricardo, he has all but held my hand through this process.

Answer1: The DS-3032 assigns you as your mom's Agent. So that you can receive mail from the Dep. of State regarding the IV application.

Answer2: My mom told me about a week and a half ago that she got the DS-3032 in the mail (sllooowwww), good thing we weren't waiting around for that to move on with the process lol.

Really, your mom does not need to wait for them to request anything from her. You know the process so you can move through it quickly.

I too, initially, was confused about when to send what and my mom was expecting to get something to take to the Police to get the Police record but it wasn't needed, she got it just fine.

This is what's happened with me so far:

A few days after the case was sent to NVC, I called and received the case number (through the automated response).

-Then the next day I called and spoke to someone, referenced the number and she updated my email address and my mom's.

A few days following that I received 2 emails: One was the DS-3032 and the other was the AOS fee bill.

-I went to the website as instructed and paid the $88.00 for the AOS (Affidavit of Support) fee

-Then I copied the format for emailing the DS-3032 (Choice of Agent) from here: Email Format for DS-3032 (rather than sending it by mail)

Pasted that in the body of an email and fill in the proper info accordingly and had my mom email it from her email address to NVCInquiry@state.gov

3 days later NVC responded to my mom's email saying they received the Choice of Agent request and the payment for the AOS fee.

At this point I could have sent in the AOS package but I was still putting it together.

    - In the meantime I received the IV fee Bill (Email) so I paid that and 2 days later it showed as paid.

After this I was at the point where the NVC is waiting for the AOS package and the IV application package

-Once I had everything for the AOS package I sent that off and a little over a week later NVC emailed me saying they received the AOS and were waiting for the IV package)

-Finally about 3 weeks later my mom DHL'd me the IV package and I mailed that off to NVC last week.

So as you can see, it's best to get all your documents for the AOS and for you mom to get all documents for IV ahead of time so you can send them in ASAP.

Hope this helps you get a better understanding of what to expect :)

Hey Chenielle, so at this point I'm waiting for my AOS payment to go from "processed" to "paid". I followed your advice and completed the I-864 AOS forms, so I could mail out straight away once I get the signal.

Question: I was going through your timeline and I see that you already mailed out your IV package (same as DS-230 form I believe), but your mom completed it and sent it to you before you mailed it to NVC. How did she obtain the form in the first place? Was it sent to her via snail mail, email, or can this form be retrieved online?

  9. Quick Question:

My husband (petitioner) is not working (this has been the case for quite some time. However, I, his wife, is working and make enough to sponser his mom.

My question is, I know he completes the I-864 regardless if he's working or not, but do I complete the I864A (because I'm a household member helping him meet the guidelines) or do I complete the Joint Sponsor form since he has NO SOURCEof income and I'll be covering the whole amount?

    Please advise. Thank you.

Wow, thank you for the detailed information!! This helps soooo much. I just called the NVC number and the case number has not been assigned yet although they did get my paperwork. She said it may take about 4 weeks for them to provide a number, so she instructed me to try back around May 26! That surprised me. I'll keep trying every 3 days just in case though.

    Thanks again Chenielle.

  11. That's great congrats! mine for my mom was pretty fast as well, 35 days - I was shocked. So far, as you can see from my timeline everything is going pretty fast. I only had a little hiccup with getting all the paperwork together to send them for my AOS and for my mom to send everything for the IV application. But everything on their USCIS and NVC side has been fairly quick. (Btw, mine was processed through Vermont)

Chenielle, I've been stalking your timeline every since I started this process! lol Your experiences and you documenting all of this has help me tremendously. I thank you. I called yesterday for my NVC number, but it hasn't been uploaded into their system yet. I'll give them a few more days. I called my mom and told her to start getting her supporting document together in the meantime.

Question: According to the NVC Process Flowchart, it says that she would have to complete and send the DS-3032 (Choice of Agent) form. I thought this was something I would complete and send to the NVC stating I will cover all expenses that may come up in this proceeding? Am I missing something?

Oh and btw, how long did it take your mother to be contacted/sent any type of paperwork once you got the 2nd NOA?

  12. Thanks Ricardo.

I came across a few threads between you and Chenielle and it was soooo very help (up until you two dissed me and went to private message. lol)

The links you shared with her will prove very helpful in my process. And I cannot believe that her approval of the I-130 only took 35 days! I'm sure that's probably a bit rare but I'm hoping for the same.

    Thanks again.

PS: Was everything successful with her mom getting over here? Just curious. I'm hoping so.

  13. Hey Everyone,

I'm somewhat confused in terms of the timing of all of this stuff. I know it varies greatly based on country and circumstances, but I was hoping to get a REALLY rough estimate on timing and just the general order of things.

CASE: US citizen (who resides in the US) is applying for mother who lives in Jamaica.

I will list the order of things as I understand it. I welcome any correction or advice you can offer. Again, I know this is merely a estimate (that is if everything goes smoothly).

    Actual Info

    Sent I-130 - 3/31

    Rec'd 1st NOA - 4/6

    Guesses

2nd NOA (approval notification) - Perhaps early May

I-864 application and invoice receive - Sometime before end of May

If sent back promptly - approval of I-864 - Before end of June

All info is sent by NVC to Jamaica Embassy and mother gets receipt - June

Mother gets application packet - July

    Mother's interview appt - Sept

If approved, mother has how many months before she HAS to leave Jamaica?

Thanks so much for your help.

  14. My husband (US Citizen through naturalization) is presently petitioning for his mother who is from (and lives) in Jamaica. However, the mother is remarried. She has a 9 year old son with him, so once she gets through, she'll petition for her son. However, she will not be petitioning for her husband (currently separated plan to divorce at some point when the funds become available).

I've recently heard because she is married the process for her to become a permanent resident will take much longer because she's married. Is there any truth to that?

  15. This question maybe best answered in about 10 months when the parent is here so we can see where the visa bulletin stands with the F2A category.

Currently it id taking 3 to 4 years to completion

Thank you so much Ricardo from stopping me from making a big mistake. You came in the nick of time and I so appreciate you replying to my hurried requests.

    Blessings,

    KW

  16. The fees doesnt go up anually. There cost of the forms did increase last year.... Prior to that it was about 3 years ago...

I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to rush you for a response.

I know what you mean regarding it will be quicker because of the filing categories, however, I was told most likely she'll get through, and since they were filed together, they will let him come through as well, as long as everything is on the up and up with the paperwork. Is that incorrect?

Also, if she was to file for him she'd be a permanent resident at that point, so it will take long as well. So many conficting information. :help:
