Whohoo!!!! Finally received the welcome letter and a "receipt notice" today! Finally O'Hare sent our package to Texas Service Center. Now we have to wait for the actual green card!
Hope others who came through Chicago in the past couple of months also received their welcome letters!
KRj - as soon as my husband came to the US, we also went to the local SSA office and applied for his SSN and got it within a couple of weeks. We did not wait for the GC to come.

I hope this is just a glitch or something as my wife is going to POE in Chicago as well...
Well, I hope so too. You might also want to keep an eye on the following thread as well. There are 2 other people in the same boat as my husband is.

It was Miami International Airport. My husband entered the US with his CR1 visa back in 2007.

Ah oh!
When we called USCIS, they asked us to call back after another month. Maybe we will call before that, and continue to call until they have an answer. They said our file has not been processed, so it was not in the system yet.

I would really say CHicago OHare sucks .....
Anybody get their welcome letter or GC yet ?
I really do think the delay is only with O'Hare so far. Nothing for us so far.
Disha,
We had the same issue with my husband and I didn't wait a month for them to enter his info in the system. I kept calling every other day and after a few days his info was in the system. I'm not sure what the problem is exactly, if it's the people at POE who don't enter their stuff in the system, or if there is a backlog at the USCIS of all the cases that need to be entered in the system. Bottom line it blows, so just keep calling.
Diana
Diana,
What was your POE? Was it Chicago as well?

i hope thts not true..
Well, I found another complaint similar to mine in VJ Forums. This person also came through Chicago on July 11, and still has not received neither a welcome letter nor green card. So, they too contacted USCIS and were told that they were not able to locate their file either. So, I see a pattern! Maybe they are understaffed.

Hey, my POE was Dublin June 6th and still no plastic green card. But i received a welcome letter dated July 5th, Did you get one too?
I traveled with stamp on my passport, it was ok. So dont worry
Skynaut, sorry for the delayed response. I have been busy with work and have not been visiting VJ regularly. No, he still has not received a welcome letter and of course no green card either. We talked to USCIS on July 20th. They said they were not able to find anything (using his A#) in their system for him. They said to call back after another month. So, we plan to call again on August 20th.
If anyone is aware of other options avaialble to track or expedite this process, please let us know.
Looks like Chicago is not a good POE.

My husband and I are in the same situation. He entered through Chicago O'Hare on June 19th, and so far we have not received a welcome letter or green card. We called USCIS on July 20, and they transfered us to a 2nd level, and they told us they could not find our case in the system yet. They asked us to wait for one more month and call back on August 20th. Any other suggestions?

He should have a stamp in his passport from when he entered. That stamp acts as a green card for the first year.
Thank you, Inky. That is a relief to know!
Anyone out there who came through Chicago recently? Trying to understand the processing time for people coming through Chicago. Others who have come through NY, CA, and other places have gotten their green cards within 2 to 3 weeks. Chicago appears to take much longer.

My husband entered the US (POE Chicago) on June 19, and he still has not received his plastic Green Card yet. Anyone out there who came through Chicago have similar issue?
He has to leave the country on a business trip for a couple of weeks. Can he leave without the actual GC, and come back without issues (with the approved visa stamp on his passport of course)?
Saylin, if you are still out there, you may have answers to these questions!!
Can we contact USCIS for this? Thanks in advance!

My husband's visa is approved!!! Yay!! He was in the consulate for 1 hour and 15 minutes, and it was all over! Thanks to Saylin and others for your guidance and tips which made the process go smoother.

My wife just called. She passed Visa Interview. Will have more details later.
Thanks, Everyone..........
Congratulations to you and your wife, Bob g!!

Thanks! Although I won't be in America until next week
Right! You need to get some sleep! A big burden has been lifted off your shoulder now, so you can relax a bit. I can't wait for my husband's interview! We still have to wait for 3 more weeks to go
-
Grats!
And I got approved today as well! Will be writing up a review in a few minutes!
Congratulations, Saylin!! Whohoo!!!! Welcome to America!

Good luck to Saylin and others who have their interviews tomorrow!!

This thread has gone queit! I guess everyone is busy preparing for their May interviews
I called DOS today to see if our package had reached New Delhi, and the lady told me that it has not been shipped from NVC yet. What a shock!! So, I called NVC and the operator said that it was true. Our package has not yet left NVC (contradicting a statement made by another NVC operator last week saying that the pacakage was shipped on the 13th). This lady said they send mulitple packages together, and that it will reach before our interview date on May 24. And the AVR still only talks about the case close date. So, maybe the AVR is more accurate than these operators in this case!!!
Has this happened to anyone else?
-
Our case package was deliverd to the embassy today! Whohoo!! I will call DoS next week for confirmation!
NVC's AVR still has the old message that the case was completed on April 1, and to allow 8 weeks for processing! When does that change?
-
Nope, AP in this case doesn't mean Advance Parole. AP at interviews means Administrative (or Additional) Processing. It means either the officer wants more evidence/documents from the beneficiary, or there was a red flag and they want more time to decide. AP usually happens frequently in African and Middle Eastern countries as there's a higher level of fraud there.
Ah ok. Thank you, Saylin! What would we do without you!!!
-
I have seen posts from a few people who were put on "AP" hold after an interview at the local embassy, and they get their actual visa after a few weeks or months. What exactly is an "AP"? The only AP I know of in the US visa processing world is "Advance Parole". It cannot be the same, can it? Any ideas? Thank you.

I have a question for the others on here that got their interview dates this week when they called; did you all get your packet 4 already? My hubby and I haven't gotten ours yet, and I don't want to book our flights for the interview until I get it, just in case the nvc human gave me the wrong date.
Our Package 4 email arrived 2 days after the NVC operator gave us the interview date.
-
That's the number. Then just press 1 for the main menu and then 0 to speak with a visa specialist.
I'm not sure how long it takes for packages to reach New Delhi, but I would think it would get there sometime next week.
Thanks for the info, Saylin. I think the package should reach New Delhi by Monday at the latest.
Finally got the email with the interview details this morning! Whohoo!!
-
That's probably yours. Have fun tracking! Once it arrives in New Delhi, the next day I'd suggest to call up DOS to see if your case has arrived at the embassy/consulate. They'll confirm if it has or not.
Will do that! I have 202-663-1225 as DOS phone number. So, I think I am all set. Thank you.
-
Told ya The AVR should update tomorrow for you saying the date it left NVC. Have fun with DHL
Haha! I should know by now that you are the queen of these pages!!
Tried tracking with yesterday's date, but didn't find anything that went to New Delhi. But I found one package that went out today. So, I am guessing that is ours. I will track that one.
No Green Card yet after almost 4 weeks
