  1. Hello All,

A week after my fiancee entered the United States we got married. This morning I went to the SSA office to apply for a SSN for her. The person behind the window was somewhat confused about the whole K1 Fiancee Visa and told me is she allowed to work?, I was like yes but have not applied for EAD yet as I am taking it one step at a time. He said you can apply, but since she is changing her last name, the immigration office will not recognize her and the application will be rejected. We applied anyway and it was rejected. Anyone been through this, anyone has applied for SSN after they got married.

    Thanks

  2. Hi, here is the info about the office,

    مكتب السنابل

    أسامة دبى

    Damascus

    Phone: 3320689

    Mobil: 966547290

    Email: ousama.daba@gmail.com

As of right now this guy can get you a tourist visa from Lebanon within 2 weeks, so I assume he has some contacts and should be able to help you out with the K1 transfer to Lebanon. Tell your fiancee in Syria to call him and meet with him and explain the situation, he has done this before and he is most likely doing it now.

    Let me know

  3. I am really sorry for what you are going through. I did not have to transfer my case as it was approved before the incident, I know some here from Syria did. Try contacting a lawyer. Try sending an email to Amman if they don't respond then try Ankara, the borders are perfectly clear, plus it an air travel anyway, try emailing the Embassy in Damascus for more guidance . There is an office in Damascus outside the embassy, they helped my fiancee with all of her paper work. Its called Al sanabel office, if you want i can give you their number.

    Let me know

    Mike

  4. Someone asked the same question on the Facebook page of the consulate in Damascus, officer told him to stand by for an answer. Try Turkey if you can get a faster response, or maybe Jordan...I recommend turkey for the sake that the entire Arab world seems to be going into an extreme transformation and violence seem to break out just about everywhere.

  5. Congrats on your NOA2, to help you out with what comes next, my fiancee and I just went through the same deal except mine was done in Damascus. I suggest you keep calling NVC before they send it to Damascus should you choose to do it in Lebanon or Jordan. In my case i gave them a week then i called to get my case # and they had already sent it Damascus, so keep calling and make sure to tell them that you want to transfer. The Embassy in Damascus is currently processing married and immediate relatives visa only, hopefully they will begin processing K1 soon should you choose to wait. if you want to transfer, try asking members from Jordan and or Lebanon how long it took to get their interiview date, that should give you an idea.

Good luck hope you guys reunite soon.

  6. You can either wait for the Embassy to begin processing again, keep in mind the Embassy announced that they will be processing some immigrant visa app, but unfortunately no K1 visa are being processed at this moment. On the other hand, you can request via NVC for your case to be transferred to a near by Embassy... Turkey, Lebanon or Jordan. Below is a great Facebook page for the Embassy in Damascus where you can ask your questions directly to the consular officer and they are very quick in responding.

    Hope this help

  7. It has been suspended for a while now, i did leave a note about that a week ago. My advise to you is just wait right now because your I 129 is still at USCIS. Once you receive your NOA2 then you can request your file to be transferred through NVC to a different Embassy, although doing that is easier said than done, your case will be delayed for a long time. I suggest you wait and monitor the embassy website, by the time you receive your second notice the Embassy should be back in business. By the way there is a great Facebook page for the US embassy in Damascus " USConsulDamascus" where you can ask questions and get answers. Just be patient, my fiancee and I just went through the whole process and its not easy, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel...Good Luck

  8. Hello all,

I have a few questions about the K-1 visa for Syrians:

    1. How difficult is it at the moment to get a K-1 visa for a Syrian citizen? Are Syrians disadvantaged because Syria isn't exactly friends with the US? Or does that not matter?

    2. Does the current political unrest make it more difficult than usual for a Syrian to get a K-1 visa?

    3. I was told that the US Embassy in Damascus is closed because of the demonstrations in Syria. Is this true? I can't find anything about it on the internet. If it's true, how can the US authorities send an approved K-1 petition to fiancées in Syria? Normally they send it to the Embassy.

    4. Would it be more difficult to get the visa if I as the US citizen don't have a job, and instead my fiancée proves she can support herself or my parents say that they'll sponsor her?

Thanks a lot for your help. :)

    Hi,

Its not difficult to get a K-1 Visa, the bulk of your wait time is here at the USCIS office...Once its approved here things move much faster in Damascus.

Its business as usual at the US Embassy in Damascus. you can check on the embassy website at "Damascus.usembassy.gov".

You must sponsor your fiancee or have a co sponsor like you said your parents could do that for you...Must show income and what not.....

    Hope this help

  9. All my fiancée brought were some pictures of both of us from different dates, phone bill, passport and two pictures, mail and money transfer receipts...hmmm oh yea and paid the visa fee.

As far as questions, she said the interview only took like 5 minutes, he asked her where do i live, what she knows about where i live, my work and if i have a house..he told her she was approved but gave her the passport back...which made me wonder a bit...

  10. I totally agree with you, My fiancée had her interview yesterday while everything went well, the counselor officer looked at her and told you are approved, but handed the passport back to her, when asked him why he is giving her the passport back, he said oh do not worry its just an AP procedure, we will call you soon so you can send your passport...I do not get it if someone is approved just give them the damn thing...its been so long already like you...Idk man good luck to both of us....Anyone else have any comments or experience they can share ??

  11. Hello,

Well My finances had her interview in Damascus this morning..she said they were very helpful and the officer told her she was approved, but gave her the passport back and told her in few days they well call her to send her passport to the embassy to issue the visa... Thank God what a long journey...

I want to thank everyone who shared thier journey and provided assistant anyway possible.

  12. Hi Quis,

As you can see from my timeline I am in the same boat as you are, My Fiancée did receive her interview date which only two weeks away but seems like forever due to the unrest in Syria..I wont lie to you i am afraid of an embassy closure as well, there is a consulate Facebook page which can help by asking questions and get answers, its really helpful. I can tell you if you don't have an interview date you may ask to transfer your papers to Jordan or maybe Turkey....I was thinking the same thing...if you guys get an interview date then you just have to wait and watch helplessly as I am.....Best of the luck to you guys any help I can offer don't hesitate..

    Mike

  13. I called NVC and they said they forwarded my I 129f File on the 31st of march to the US embassy in Damascus, I emailed the embassy today and I received a reply back that they have received the electronic file but no Physical file yet and they asked me for the Beneficiary's phone number to notify her......is this how it normally happen? Its been 6 days

    Thanks

  14. Dont worry three weeks ago i got an RFE after 5 months, i responded march first, then i got my NOA2 on march 22.....this is a good thing not a bad thing, at least they looked at your case.....Respond to the RFE and you should get your NOA2 2-3 weeks later.

  15. Hello K1 Filers, Aug 20th 2010 when i sent my I 129F and as you can see from my timeline it has been 6 months. I did Have an RFE sent on February 26th which i had responded to on march 1st. My Question is, is it that time to contact my Senator, God knows I have been Patient and and I know I am not the only one filing, but any ideas, thoughts and advices are welcome, I am very nervous about the unrest in the middle east as my finance is from Syria.

Has anyone contacted their congressmen or senator, if so how did you prep your letter or should I just call then sign and email the privacy notice from their website...

    Thanks

    Mike
