Hello everyone
I posted last month that i am still pending after my naturalization interview back in July
IO wrote (case files must be consolidated prior to making a decision)
USCIS case processing times for (Hartord, CT) office states 5 months
I originally filed December 8, 2014
I received a letter from immigration last month that the case is still pending background check.
I did do a name change but it was primarily dropping my middle name - is that why i am further delayed?
I even went to the local office few weeks ago, and the office said - I do not know what to tell you, because the screen shows that you passed - just wait until the 120 day marl
I am in fact now coming up on that 120 days
what can i do
-
ok but when i look at the case processing times for my office
it states
5 months -
how is that possible when i am a 10 months old case that has yet been finalized
-
Helpme123
thank you for your input
no criminal background -
only a DUI from 1997 and it was dismissed
did have some urgent travel coming up but can just use my current home country's passport for that i guess
-
Hello everyone
To sum it up
I had my interview back in July based on three year rule
Officer said all good but we need to consolidate all your files
I have an old Green card with a different number that I abandoned when I moved back to my home country
Fast forward to today
I just received a letter from uscis stating that a decision cannot be made until the back ground check is completed
I am puzzled - background check after the N-400 interview
I thought they do the due diligence after the finger print before the interview
Any similar situations - advice please ?
-
just to update anyone that may be interested
i did contact the immigration officer who was really nice and advised that it still pending due to case consolidation
no other timeline
-
Kittens_0117
sorry if my timeline was not correct
when he called the first time , it was prior to the actual interview asking for the birth certificate , then called back to say he has it
then I went and conducted the actual interview only to find out that case files need to be consolidated first
fast forward to day, i realized that he had left a voicemail that went into the deleted folder by mistake
so we never really talked past the interview day
-
hello everyone
a quick synopsis
I had my interview roughly two months ago, all went well but there are multiple files in my name (old green card) so it must be consolidated before a decision is made
fast forward to day, I did an info pass this morning and the officer at the window said you passed everything, but there is no decision yet
So you need to wait
sucks - i wish there is something i can do
but my biggest dilemma is that i went home only to realize that the officer that interviewed me had left a voice mail on my phone with his name and phone number prior to the interview asking for my birth certificate
later on he called the same day to say he found the document but i never realized that i had that voicemail
but i have his contact info, and i really really want to use it and just ask if there is anything else needed to make a decision on my case
but i am hesitant and curious what his reaction would be, it may not be welcomed at all
any thoughts
-
yes - then was told files must be consolidated before a decision can be made
and they were still looking for one last file
-
somewhat similar to the scenario I am in - but I ended up in waiting room for three hours
then
officer said I have multiple files that need to be consolidated and a digital file that they are waiting for
before they can make a decision
-
NancyNguyen
i understand and fully respect the policy guidelines on waiting period.
so why would the office tell me to call the CS number ? why would anyone bother calling it for that matter? they read what's already online in case status anyway
perhaps, info pass is really the way to go in most cases
-
I tried and was told - no escalation before a minimum of 90 days has passed
and that i should take an Info Pass and go talk to the local office
like its that simple to just take time off work ,drive an hour plus to sit in a lobby and be told , call the CS number again
oh well
-
Hello everyone
I did not want to create a new thread so I am just updating the original one
it has been about three weeks since my interview.
The officer said I can call the customer service number and ask for an update. But when I do, they just reiterate what its already on the site and is old
An interview has been scheduled for you, we will mail you an interview notice
do i need to escalated to a higher tier? or just wait few more weeks and get an info pass
i just feel silly calling the 1800 number so they can read out for me what i already see on the check status online
thanks

good luck
i just had my interview last Monday in Hartford

Sorry if this has been repeated but just a bit nervous because of an RFE during the removal of conditions on our green card. We've been married only 3 years and we had an RFE when removing conditions because they said we had not shown enough evidence of "financial intermingling" of joint accounts. We ended up submitting bank statements for every month showing joint ownership since our marriage (at first had sent only first month and last month) as well as credit card transaction history and our RFE was lifted and we were approved for the 10 year green card. To avoid problems when we submitted the N-400 we submitted again bank statements for every month since marriage as well as all credit card history. Will they have all of that paperwork at the interview or do we need to bring it with us again? Is it even necessary? It was roughly 200+ pages and I don't want to reprint it all again if not necessary. I will also bring tax transcripts to be safe.
Just concerned for any delays because on the interview letter checklist we got there was this clause "If you are applying for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a U.S. citizen, bring proof that your spouse has been a U.S. citizen for at least 3 years at the time of filing for naturalization and proof that you and your spouse lived in marital union for at least 3 years at the time of filing for naturalization."
That last sentence worries me because it is very vague. Do I need to reprint all the paperwork we sent in as evidence with our N-400? I know if they need more paperwork they will ask but I don't want to delay things and would like to be prepared.
I cant tell you from my interview just few days ago is that the officer did not ask for anything from the letter
just wanted to see one or two documents within the last three months showing that my wife and I still are together with some sort of joint asset
-
Hello everyone
Needless To say, officer was nice and apologized as I was in waiting room for over two hours
Everything was a breeze , asked to see any current joint documents for my wife and I - ( three year Rule was my basis
Then said - we intend to approve you , pick your desired location for the ceremony from the bottom three - however, I cannot approve you now as we have multiple files for u -
I used to have a different alien number from an old case and apparently the officer at the embassy made the mistake of giving me a new one
He said I don't foresee any issues but all files must consolidated before we make an official decision
Not sure what that means
Any thoughts ?

Hello everyone
I have my naturalization interview this coming Monday and the standard yellow later talked about bringing all passports & marriage certificate
but do i need anything else
like we just bought a house so address is not the same as the one listed on N-400, do I bring copies of the warranty deed on the house
recent bank statements
child birth certificate
I filed in December 2014 so it was before we filed our taxes so do I bring the 2014 taxes
i just don't want to be caught off guard with an officer that cannot make a decision because of some paperwork trail that i already have sitting at home
thank you all
-
JimmyHou - I never filled out the name change and my interview is Monday the 27th of this month
Technically, I did not think it was an name change scenario since I just wanted to drop my middle name not change anything else
can I do anything when i go interview?
-
Hello everyone
well, I got my naturalization interview at Hartford CT, cancelled - but quickly rescheduled again
My question is on name change. Technically - I am not changing my name, But I have a long one
and wanted to drop two middle names and just keep my first and last name only
is that doable? and at what stage -
FYI - Green card currently states the full name
-
thank you NancyNguyen for the reassurance
i did not want to feel like an isolated incident
-
Hello everyone -
I got my interview notice for the Hartford, CT office for July 7 - then about a week later
another notice indicating that to unforeseen circumstances it was cancelled
should i be concerned? does that happen often? how do i follow up
thank you
-
hegy, no interview letter yet
thanks for checking
-
Thank you Jaze, I actually just got off the phone with the tier 2 cs
surprise, surprise, they have no record of my AR-11, and new address (I have the confirmation via email)
so she said call us back by end of June (if I do not receive the notice) and request it faxed since my appointment is likely to be first or second week of July
-
hello everyone
I have a bit of an interesting scenario
I filed back in December 2014 (Hartford CT) office
yesterday I received notification that they started the process for scheduling my naturalization interview
to my surprise this morning, i get another notification that the interview has been scheduled and a notice will be mailed
which is great, however - I moved less than 10 days ago (same state) and filed my change of address online back on May 18th
what will happen now? i am thinking i may run into the risk of the interview notice going to my old address. Local post office said no guarantee that it will be forwarded properly to the new address
any advice to be proactive here?

JimmyHou
I tried calling and was pretty much shut down that the 120 status means nothing, and they are processing July 30th applications so I should just sit tight and try calling again in 3-4 months
unbelievable
Background check after N-400 possible ?
in US Citizenship General Discussion

I just got the online notification that case status is in oath ceremony
good luck to all still waiting on that illusive background check whether before or after the interview
its been a long journey for me that dates back to 2004 where i received by first conditional green card
that i later abandoned, left the country and had to start from scratch
